Call of Duty still rules the WWII roost

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 4

Whew....I played the first 2 levels of MoH: Airborne and I must say, those were the 2 longest hr's of my life. So, EA is stepping into the shoes where Call of Duty has gone so far and so well on the 360 and I must say that my impressions are mixed.

i will keep this brief because most reviews have touched on a lot of key points of the game

1. Graphics - I don't think they are as good as CoD but still as with any other WWII game you know you are in a fight. But it's at the point now after seeing games like Gears of War and Stranglehold one has to wonder when will there be more destructable environments? I mean come on...we are 2 years into the next gen and there should not be so many static objects!!

2. As good as any WWII shooter can be...on a decent set up it sounds like there is complete chaos going on around you. Still tho with large explosions, my subwoofer could use a lil more of a workout.

3. Controls - handles pretty well altho I wonder why there is no prone feature.

4. Game design is very innovative. Having the freedom to drop into a zone as opposed to making a linear run from point A to point B increases the amount of thought you have to put into finishing an objective. Pay attention to your briefings because they are no joke. Think you are going to land near your objactive and finish it right away? WRONG. I tried that twice and had my butt handed to me as soon as I landed and I do mean getting beaten and shot at before I could raise my weapons. This idea is a refreshing way to play because you won't complete any one level the same way...also it gives you ways to startegically plan an attack? Having a hard time mounting a frontal assault? Try looking for the back door or try taking the roof...there are more ways than one to take out the enemy. The AI is pretty sharp and they will find ways to take you out and sometimes it seems cheap too but again you won't Rambo thru this game.

My only minuses so far are these:

There are times when you seem to feel like you are completely on your own, this could be a good thing or a bad thing depending...and sometimes when you are fighting with others some of those jokers will step right in front of your aim.

When shooting an enemy, sometimes it seems like you have to empty 1/2 a clip just to kill one soldier...again...this is next gen guys, if I shoot a guy in the arm he should be hurt...leg make him limp..head...he should not get up ever again...but on this game they do...

Just when you think you are done, there is more....this could be a plus or a minus depending on who you are talking to...but as soon as you are done one laundry list of objectives, a new list may pop up tacking on another 1/2 an hr of the level....this could work as this game is rumored to be rather brief.

All in all this game so far is cool, Call of Duty definently has the crown in WWII shooters and it's almost sad that this year's iteration won't be from that era but that may be a good thing, but if you like WII shooters and need somethig a lot less linear, MoH is worth a look.

Nicely done and intense

I am an avid WWII history nut and this game helps put some animation to the historical fact. The game is smooth and somewhat intuitive. I found the final mission, the Tower, to be very challenging. If I were to make changes, they would be less repetitive chatter from my fellow soldiers, like "take cover, move move" at least two thousand times, and the NAZI's "Ya, Americana" a couple of more thousands gets very annoying. Also my fellow soldiers get in the line of fire way too often, though there is no loss of life or punishment for shooting them. I love the game.

this game, just like all of the other moh series are great and fun to play. there is a decent amount of replay value in xbox live and going through to beat it in all the difficulty levels and unlocking achievements but there are some buggy parts in the game that are annoying as hell. for example, when you need to land on a skill jump, some skills jumps require you to land in an exact spot otherwise you won't get it. (i had to land on a pillar for a skill jump and i did but didn't get it until i landed on a certain corner at a certain angle, which i found out on youtube). but besides the achievements and such, the run, iron sights, etc are great and fun to play with. graphics are decent, not overly amazing like other fps games on the xbox360 and the mechanics aren't as realistic as i expected but still fun to play. the ai can be stupid sometimes, getting stuck on corners or running in circles which is hilarious. wished there was a co-op option to this game.

The M.O.H series has died with this game...

You play as a guy named Travers who is in the United States Airborne division. Basically, your character and the rest of his troops jump out of planes and into different WW2 locations and basically either destroy something or kill nazis. Theres really no "story" like the other Medal of Honor games where you feel that your character is doing something extrodinary (like in Frontline where you infiltrate a German base disguised as a Nazi with some Nazi papers). You get your usual array of weapons in this game ranging anywhere from the M1 Garand and BAR assault rifle to the Panzershrek, Springfield sniper rifle and MP40. However, each gun is terribly inaccurate and do almost the same amout of damage as each other. What do I mean? Well for example I will be holding a Thompson machine gun, I will literally empty and entire clip into one soldier and he will do. On the next victim I used the Gweher and it took me an entire clip to lay him out. You are also awarded upgrades to your guns such as less recoil or a scope if you score enough headshots and kills with said guns. However, most of the upgrades are completley useless since the aiming and recoil (even with the upgrade for "less recoil") is still atrocious.

Lets talk hit detection. Pretty much, no matter where you shoot a Nazi...he will simply shrug it off and run away. You could shoot him in the chest with a Springfield (which in real life would blow a huge gaping hole in his chest cavity), he'll stagger for a minute and then dive behind cover. This is EXTREMLEY annoying, and is actually one of the reasons a previous MOH game did so bad (anyone remember Rising Sun?).

The multiplayer is garbage. If your allies, you parachute into the action. Sounds cool right? Not when enemies snipers just keep picking you off before you hit the ground. It probably wouldn't be so bad if you could.. oh, I don't know.. shoot a gun while parachuting?! Basically, your a target until you hit the ground. Ontop of that, your allies and enemies aren't clearly labeled. So for instance, you'll see a character standing there with no name or anything above his head... you kill him, and boom you score a team kill because you had no idea. God, so lame.

Your allies AI is disgusting. They will just stand there and get shot at without doing anything. The best example I have of this is in the 4th level where you are fighting in the city - I had an allied troop taking cover in a ruined building.... with an enemy standing right next to him. Terrible.

And additionally, I guess the game testers must have been sleeping when they gave this game the thumbs up. On more than one occassion bullets would go right through the walls or cover you are trying to hide behind. LAMMMEEEEEEE.

Oh, and expect to have a screaming match with your TV. This is one of the hardest titles ever. You'll die over and over and over and over and over and over just to gain an inch of land and then have it taken away because the checkpoint system is garbage. Since your AI is so bad and there are clipping issues, you'll basically be fighting the entire Nazi army by yourself.

The graphics aren't next gen, and are actualyl a step down from what Call of Duty has set as a standard for the genre of WW2 shooters. Characters look choppy, the explosions are pixelated and sloppy, and the only thing good about the graphics are the environments & guns.

As for as music goes, this has the worst soundtrack in the entire franchise. I was deeply dissapointed with the generic war time music used instead of the epic chorus and strings usually used. And the fact that the theme song isn't even the same is heart shattering.

As far as I'm concerned, the Medal of Honor games are dead. This is just a terrible game all around, and its really sad because I'm a huge fan of the series. The sheer lack of effort in almost every aspect of the game makes this an untouchable title. 2.5 rounds spent in my Garand out of 10.

This is MEDAL OF HONOR!

I've been playing since these games were introduced. I have to say, Rising Sun and European Assault were fun, but just not the "one man army" situation I liked in Frontline. But man does this blow away Frontline and all the others! Great gameplay, smooth as hell, no lags in between movements, (and I don't have a high definition t.v.!!! I can only imagine what this is going to look like on my buddy's 52 inch sony 1080 on PS3!!! Right now, though I'm playing it on XBOX--it kicks butt! The weapon awards and upgrades are fantastic, the AI response by enemies is the best I've seen (it's almost like walking through 'Saving Private Ryan'!) I love this stuff and I love that Speilberg was the brains behind developing these games to EA. And the expansive graphics and details are amazing!!! (Again, even on a little t.v.) And the fire and explosion effects are terrific as well as the AI banter between squad members, and let's not forget--there's blood!!!! Which is a plus--but a few tips for future Medal of Honor games--Let's get more relistic. I want blown off body parts, guys trying to run or crawl away and hide--MUCH MORE PLEASE!! COME ON! MORE! GREEEAAAT GAME!!! I've played all the Call of Duties. This blows them all out of the water for detail, historical accuracy and overall fun!!

Better Than COD 4

I havent been a fan of MOH or COD games for years, since they did millions of sequels and nothing new.

Airborne offers superb graphics and something really cool. You basically jump out of a plane and choose where to go and what mission you want to complete. Plus there are weapons skills that go up. The weapons and sounds are realistic, and it offers online play but i dont got my xbox 360 hooked up to internet. Animation is also amazing, gives lots of life.
Not too many missions but they do last a while if u try to raise all your skills on the weapon systems they have and do an airdrop at certain hidden points to get achievements.
COD4 on the other hand has better graphics but it so fake and straight forward. But there is a plot. Weapons fire like BB guns. Not a fan.

Good or Bad, WW2 Never Dies

The 360 showcases wonderful lighting and intense firefights in MOHA. Unlike last gen WW2 titles in which programmers used lots of tricks to make it seem like a big battle, MOHA has large levels and lots of enemies, so that after parachuting in you'll turn into a human meat-grinder, shredding Krauts in two with your BAR. The sounds also bring the experience home: explosions, rifle fire, soldiers screaming, and soaring music to pump you up. MOHA's good, not great, but good. EA definitely should turn to a new venue in its series, but MOHA is a good exit.

I dont know what everyone else is talking about.. I think this game was very poorly made. The graphics arent that great at all. (probably worse then call of duty 2). The controls are sketchy and unconfortable. Overall EA was just copying call of duty 2 but did a bad job. Buy call of duty 2 its like 20 bucks.

Not anything special, but I like it. I love WWII games, and it delivers action, as usual for this series.
