Not anything special, but I like it. I love WWII games, and it delivers action, as usual for this series.

The M.O.H series has died with this game...

You play as a guy named Travers who is in the United States Airborne division. Basically, your character and the rest of his troops jump out of planes and into different WW2 locations and basically either destroy something or kill nazis. Theres really no "story" like the other Medal of Honor games where you feel that your character is doing something extrodinary (like in Frontline where you infiltrate a German base disguised as a Nazi with some Nazi papers). You get your usual array of weapons in this game ranging anywhere from the M1 Garand and BAR assault rifle to the Panzershrek, Springfield sniper rifle and MP40. However, each gun is terribly inaccurate and do almost the same amout of damage as each other. What do I mean? Well for example I will be holding a Thompson machine gun, I will literally empty and entire clip into one soldier and he will do. On the next victim I used the Gweher and it took me an entire clip to lay him out. You are also awarded upgrades to your guns such as less recoil or a scope if you score enough headshots and kills with said guns. However, most of the upgrades are completley useless since the aiming and recoil (even with the upgrade for "less recoil") is still atrocious.

Lets talk hit detection. Pretty much, no matter where you shoot a Nazi...he will simply shrug it off and run away. You could shoot him in the chest with a Springfield (which in real life would blow a huge gaping hole in his chest cavity), he'll stagger for a minute and then dive behind cover. This is EXTREMLEY annoying, and is actually one of the reasons a previous MOH game did so bad (anyone remember Rising Sun?).

The multiplayer is garbage. If your allies, you parachute into the action. Sounds cool right? Not when enemies snipers just keep picking you off before you hit the ground. It probably wouldn't be so bad if you could.. oh, I don't know.. shoot a gun while parachuting?! Basically, your a target until you hit the ground. Ontop of that, your allies and enemies aren't clearly labeled. So for instance, you'll see a character standing there with no name or anything above his head... you kill him, and boom you score a team kill because you had no idea. God, so lame.

Your allies AI is disgusting. They will just stand there and get shot at without doing anything. The best example I have of this is in the 4th level where you are fighting in the city - I had an allied troop taking cover in a ruined building.... with an enemy standing right next to him. Terrible.

And additionally, I guess the game testers must have been sleeping when they gave this game the thumbs up. On more than one occassion bullets would go right through the walls or cover you are trying to hide behind. LAMMMEEEEEEE.

Oh, and expect to have a screaming match with your TV. This is one of the hardest titles ever. You'll die over and over and over and over and over and over just to gain an inch of land and then have it taken away because the checkpoint system is garbage. Since your AI is so bad and there are clipping issues, you'll basically be fighting the entire Nazi army by yourself.

The graphics aren't next gen, and are actualyl a step down from what Call of Duty has set as a standard for the genre of WW2 shooters. Characters look choppy, the explosions are pixelated and sloppy, and the only thing good about the graphics are the environments & guns.

As for as music goes, this has the worst soundtrack in the entire franchise. I was deeply dissapointed with the generic war time music used instead of the epic chorus and strings usually used. And the fact that the theme song isn't even the same is heart shattering.

As far as I'm concerned, the Medal of Honor games are dead. This is just a terrible game all around, and its really sad because I'm a huge fan of the series. The sheer lack of effort in almost every aspect of the game makes this an untouchable title. 2.5 rounds spent in my Garand out of 10.

A somewhat srange WWII FPS.

A fairly good game in most respects, but it has some strange characteristics to it. The controls are different from most FPS games on the 360, and the way you can level up weapons is strange. The ability to use cover and peak is a welcome addition that many FPS games do not have. The game is sometimes overly patriotic at points, and there are no soldiers from other allied nations, such as the British, anywhere in the game. Historical accuracy is also thrown out the window in the last 2 levels of the game. Still fun to play, but more thought should have been put into its development.

Fun, at times infuriating

I want to say that this game is hackneyed and yet another addition to the WWII FPS genre, but enough reviewers have already discussed this so I'll move on to my biggest gripe with this game - glitches.

MOHA (campaign mode, specifically) is easily the buggiest FPS I've ever played. The glitches range from the harmless:

AI characters getting stuck in animation loops
AI characters "ghosting" and becoming frozen mid-action (you can walk through them, but can't shoot them)

to infuriating:

You often get shot through solid objects, such as concrete blocks and large boxes (keep in mind that MOHA, unlike COD4, has no "shoot through thin objects" feature)
AI characters often seem to randomly teleport from one location to another
Enemies see you through thick smoke, which you cannot see through
Enemies with large, inaccurate weapons (panzerschrecks, recoilless guns) have better accuracy than the player equipped with a sniper rifle, at bafflingly long distances

When it's cruddiness isn't obvious, MOHA is actually a fun game. While parachuting often comes across as a nicely executed afterthought, the fights themselves are quite enjoyable (though the game is extremely frugal with regard to checkpoints, which makes it especially hard on higher difficulty settings).

Final word: Medal of Honor: Airborne is a game that's worth a rental, but its campaign mode is definitely not worth the money.

Good Game

I got this to hold me over until the next "best" FPS came out. I only played it for a few hours before leaving for Florida. I passed it on to my grandson to play while I am gone. I will get back to it in April.

The game was fun, had lots of action, and played well for a FPS. Not at Halo 3 or Mass Effect level but I was impressed. Worth the money and time playing.

EA! WHY THIS SOUR NOTE WITH YOUR MEDAL OF HONOR THEME?

My favorite game is the FPS, especially the WWII era. So, I became desperate when my new Dell with Window's VISTA would simply not allow CALL OF DUTY 2 to run. I bought a used copy of MOH-Airborne.

I must agree with many reviewers here that note how incredibly SHORT it was for the price. Over too quickly.

I must take it one step further and say [BEWARE - SPOILER!]

It's difficult enough to put up with MOH's habit of relying so much on 'film clips' or video runs of action to fluff up their game; couldn't this same space be used more creatively/wisely in providing the buyer/ player more challenges? More shooting time/targets...than simply watching a cartoon play? That is not why I buy GAMES, anyway.

Anyway...the coup de grace.

Why in the WORLD would they sink to the depths of a simple arcade-type shooter scenario for their last one in the game? It was sickening that I turned the game off after I ran into their illconceived and endless stream of UBER-Reichsman with their hip-firing MG-42's; the ones that will NOT die until 5-6 direct head shots with a shotgun with all it's upgrades?

I mean, the game states that the nazi's are holed up in this tower to make their last stand? I expected to run into TONS of enemies, perhaps a bit more determined than those I'd encounted up to that point. I'm not even going to ask why in the world they're wearing GAS MASKs, when there is none being used. I mean...if they have those, why not say they're USING GAS! Make our hero have to locate one that is not in use ASAP...something like that?

That truly ruined this game for me and is why I cannot recommend this game to anyone for anything more than $4.99, which should include the shipping if you can swing it.

I hate to be so critical but MOH does now simply pale in comparison with any of the COD products.

By the way, the illustration in game pre-set-up? Where the hero is waiting @ the corner with a bazooka type weapon? He's got a PVT stripe on his shoulder and Tech. Sgt's stripes on his cover. Seriously. Do they ever consult with anyone who has ever, you know, been involved with the military in any capacity? It would help.

I'm not going to go into the fact that several encounters feature HORDES of German soldiers all bearing the VERY RARE assault rifle, [whose nomenclature escapes me @ the moment.] Just kooky.

Anyway...it all seems like it was a parting shot for the MOH series that totally missed the mark.

Sorry, folks.

When it becomes a grind, it's really not that much fun

My feelings about Medal of Honor Airborne are clearly going to be beholding to Infinity Ward's Call of Duty efforts and any war themed first person shooter really should be as they are the standard bearers for quality. So, let's address a few of the obvious points that make a game worth the effort or not. When I say MoHA is a grind, I might be putting it lightly. Soldiers, as the game wears on, will take more damage than a tank. It really becomes a chore to have to slog through these super Nazis and a bit too unrealistic. It was tough to get through CoD on Veteran difficulty, but even on Casual, in MoHA, it doesn't seem challenging, just more like the game is cheating to make it harder. I never felt that way in CoD 2 or 4 (3 doesn't count) and never got so annoyed I just didn't care to play any more, which happened a lot as MoHA wore on. The gameplay is just not that compelling or immersive.

The graphics are servicable for a current generation shooter and there are no superlative aspects that stick out in my mind. I noticed a lot of shiny objects that shouldn't have been. That's the only thing that sticks out in my mind if you're interested in a negative.

The missions were ok in that the layout was open so you could approach most missions in any order seen fit. There was an awkward element to this though, in that most of the time, after dieing, the character would be jumping out of the plane again to parachute back down onto the playing field where all of the prior completed objectives would still be cleared. This only plays into the fact that the parachuting aspect of the game is a gimmick, the only value of which, are the Skill Jump achievements. It's not a really exciting mechanic, so the fact that the player might jump out of the plane 20 times (for each time you happen to die) makes it less realistic and more of a chore (load times and real time adding to the grind) than it is fun.

The peak and lean mechanic, where the player can mover around in cover, is a really nice feature as is the weapon upgrade experience feature (weapons become more efficient and improved as they are used more). These would be nice additions to other games but, as a whole, don't really help make the act of playing Medal of Honor Airborne better enough to make it a good game. The overall gameplay keeps that from happening.

In the end, Medal of Honor Airborne is a perfectly average game. It works. It doesn't look terrible. There are a few good things about it. It's really not that memorable. While I will remember CoD 2 & 4 as all time greats, MoHA will fade along with most other gaming experiences I'd just as soon forget. And the also ran parade marches on...

Medal of Irritation

I have been playing the Medal of Honor games since their inception. However, this one is worst ever produced. Are the graphics bad? No, they are pretty good. How about the weapons and setting? Those are pretty good too.

The problem is that playing this game will really piss you off.

The difficulty is really off on this one. Sure, you can take some hits, but the enemies can take half a clip of .30 caliber ammunition and still charge at you too! Also, let's say you die, you are started in a spot where it may take minutes (1-2) or (5-7) for your "squad" to show up and help you. So basically, for some unknown amount of time, you must fight the entire German army by yourself. Phew, my "squad" is finally here. I hope they can help me out now. Aaaaawe they are all dead from a single grenade. Your "squad" AI makes them act like a bunch of drunken raccoons, rather than a crack airborne unit.

Lets take some of the weapons:

When you fire a submachine gun, you really cannot hit anything further than about 30 meters, however, when you have a rifle and are trying to hit a target at, oh, say 100 meters, that guy is peppering you with submachine gun fire the whole time you are aiming.

How about rocket launchers? Everyone loves those. When you fire a Panzerschreck at a tank, it will take a good 3+ hits before blowing up. Also, if a guy is standing behind a steel girder, and you hit the girder with 10 rockets, he is still not going to die.

Now lets move on to the SS troopers in the train yard that shoulder MG42's. After I emptied a full BAR clip into one guy, and he didn't die, I turned a $50 controller in a $.05 pile of rubble.

Hey, since you are going to die often (about every 30 seconds or so), there must be a good way to save your progress right? No, not really. There is a "checkpoint" system in the game. This system, however, does not use your progress in different areas as some other games do. Rather it uses the completion of a mission goal as a save point. Not too bad, right? The problem is that there are some missions where completing a mission goal can take quite a while. These same missions always appear to be the ones full of snipers and 500 nazis hiding above you in scaffolding. After the 35th time you try to get a particular goal, you will know what I mean.

I used to play both this game and Call of Duty, rating them pretty equally, but I'm afraid the MOT franchise has gone downhill if this is the kind of offering they are moving forward with.

Save yourself some broken glasses, controllers, coffee tables, etc. and buy one of the Call of Duty games instead. You will be 10 times happier.

Much better than anticipated.

This is one of those games where i wanted to not like it because my friends hated it but i enjoyed it.This game implements new ideas not seen in the latest batch of ww2 shooters. The isnt a do this and then this , you get to pick your choice on which objectives to go after first and then work through them in whatever way you see fit.The weapons feel more realistic than the ones on cod3.Their is strong variation among the enemies I would guess there are 25 types of enemies, which makes you feel part of something bigger. The only real strikes to this game are as follows:short(5-8 hours), relatively easy, and the story is nothing extra either.I played about 5 matches on the multiplayer(i rented it).The multiplayer feels a little like call of duty 4 just not as polished and as good of graphics. When i was on there were also only about 275 people online ,so be prepared to wait for a game. All said and done this is a really good world war 2 game not the best fps out there, but definately worth your consideration as a rental..

good game. stupid achievements.

this game, just like all of the other moh series are great and fun to play. there is a decent amount of replay value in xbox live and going through to beat it in all the difficulty levels and unlocking achievements but there are some buggy parts in the game that are annoying as hell. for example, when you need to land on a skill jump, some skills jumps require you to land in an exact spot otherwise you won't get it. (i had to land on a pillar for a skill jump and i did but didn't get it until i landed on a certain corner at a certain angle, which i found out on youtube). but besides the achievements and such, the run, iron sights, etc are great and fun to play with. graphics are decent, not overly amazing like other fps games on the xbox360 and the mechanics aren't as realistic as i expected but still fun to play. the ai can be stupid sometimes, getting stuck on corners or running in circles which is hilarious. wished there was a co-op option to this game.
