Best Hunting Game I've Played Yet!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 23 / 23
Date: August 01, 2007

Well my title says it all, this was a great game. Let me point out the pro's and con's.

PROS

-Plenty of missions to complete that should take you a good while to finish, and when you are done you can always go back to play for a gold trophy.

-Good range of animals, from warthogs, to elephants.

-Nice selection of weapons, probably more than 30.

-Online community, where you can play tournaments uploaded by other gamers, or upload your own, or just talk about the game. This adds greatly to the replayability of the game, as there are always new challenges for you to download and play.

-Free play, which allows you to choose what animals you want to hunt, and which weapons and add-ons to use. All weapons, animals, and add-ons are available without needing to unlock them.

-Bullet cam is pretty nice, allowing you to watch your bullet fly through the air to hit your prey. You can change this to activate for every shot, promising shots, or never.

-And of course, I saved the best for last. The level editor. This has got to be the best level editor I've seen to date. You can make great challenges to share online, or to simply share with your friends that play the game. You can make levels that are just as good as the ones that come with the game, making its replayability even longer. You and your friend can make challenges and see if you can complete them.

CONS (Haven't found to many, but here's the ones I have found)

-Some levels are rather hard, such as the ones where you need to track the animals, and their tracks go into bushes and are quite easy to lose in some areas. Eventually you will get it, but it will take patience, and you might get frustrated.

-Not able to shoot off of a horse. Don't get me wrong, being able to ride a horse instead of an ATV is much better, but it would be better if you could shoot at animals while riding it.

-ATV handling just sucks, and doesn't work well at all.

-In freeplay, you can only hunt animals that would be in the area of your hunt. For example, if you are hunting in North America, you are not able to hunt elephants, or lions, etc. This really sucks, because the only place to hunt them is Africa, out of about eight differnt maps. I mean, I know you wouldn't hunt them in North America, but it IS a game, and it really wouldn't matter.

-This really isn't a con, but the level editor, is a little tricky to get familiarized with. If you take the time to read the instructions - online - you shouldn't have a problem.

-Last but not least, I was very disappointed in the fact that the Trophy Room was quite a step back from any other hunting game I've played. Any I've played before will have the heads stuffed, and hung up on the wall, with a plaque under it stating the information on the kill, or sometimes even the whole animal. Some even have them where you can virtually walk around to look at each animal. The trophy room on here is simply pictures, and two arrows, which you click to flip back and forth though the pictures.

All in all, I only rate this game 4 out of 5, because of the downgraded trophy room. The trophy room in hunting games is one of my favorite things, and I always hope they will be more advanced. I don't understand the reason why they didn't bother to make a virtual trophy room, but I guess that is their choice. For fun, I rate it 5 out of 5, as it is still fun without the trophy room, and the replayability is quite good.

If you are a fan of hunting games, you should definately add this to your collection!

Hunting Unlimited 2008 has exterior ballistics!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

A great game with some of the most realistic firearm performance seen in a game to date!

After playing the 1 hour demo, I bought the game purely for the ballistics, not half expecting things like cover scent an animal calls to be useful, but I was pleasantly surprised! A great bargain of a game!

Unfortunately, there are several features missing that I would have expected for a game of this caliber.

1. You can't keep your scope up while the bullet travels down range - the weapon bolt is cycled automatically, causing you to lose sight where your bullet impacted. This annoying feature can be circumvented by enabling "bullet camera" or using an simply auto-loading rifle.

2. There are no ballistic mil-dot or ballistic-plex scopes featured in the game. Compensating for distances over your zero without a mil-dot of some sort is guessing.

Even with the short-comings, I still have to give this game a 5/5 simply because it breaks boundaries that no other game does.

Hunter Unlimited 2008 "past tense"

I've been a loyal fan of ValuSoft's previous Hunting Unlimited series, providing hours of enjoyment, superb graphics, and beautiful scenery. When I saw the release of Hunting Unlimited 2008, I was excited about the company's newest creation. WHAT A LETDOWN! This production is almost entirely repackaging of the previous games in the series. If you've had the first three in the series there is absolutely no need to waste you money on this clone.
Very disappointed in ValuSoft.

Hunting this way is easy

This is a game I am glad to have in my collection, its full of hours of fun. From Loads of Guns, to lots of tech, realistic looking animals, and a free hunt mode I know I can try many different posiblites. I liked this game a lot, as you can tell.

Only negitives I had was the few animals you got to deal with, the log it keeps based on my performance, and looking closer it is like Hunting Unlimited 4 but with new HUD display.

All in all I give it a 8.0 out of ten, its awesome, but not the next best hunting game that tops the shelf hunting game.

Fun Game

I'm an 18 year old girl, and even I have had fun with this game! Also, if you buy the CD, once you put it on your computer, you don't need to used the CD anymore- so I was able to "give" it to my boyfriend too. The graphics were nice, and it could just be my computer, but sometimes there would be lines across the screen and the animals/scenery would change to different colors and get very pixel-ish. Usually restarting the game fixed it. But it's way more fun than Deer Hunter with the variety of quarry.

Dont Buy

Hunting unlimited? More like Hunting Limited.
I am assuming they give that title to the game, because you have a good selection on weapons, animals to hunt, and area's to hunt in, but that is all this game has going for it.

Cons:
Animals just run in circles waiting to be shot.
Animals will sometimes just continue to eat grass once shot.
The ATV is poorly constructed, and easily flippable, bottoms out on tiny hills.
The horse gets glitchy when looking at it sideways while running, and trips every now and then.
If your character goes into deep water, you die. Whats that about?
The person who wrote the text for the game, didnt have english as a first language, there are common grammatical and spelling errors. How does that happen?
As stated in another review, the first tracking mission will strain your eyes, give you a headache, and make you want to break the CD in half.
Animals can run through trees 5 feet thick, but you cant, so they give you a false sense of cover until a lion goes right through it and kills you.
The maps have invisible borders, places the animals can go but you cant, this gets frustrating when tracking, or wanting to go to the top of a hill for a better view.
They have this music to try and get your heart rate up when a predator is near, this music gets very old after a while, annoying even.

Value soft - what a lame name, and they still couldnt live up to the small expectation of "value".
