The Lovely game of Thief

I loved Thief 1, the way you could sneak around and whack people wiht a club behind the head, so I decided to buy this Bundle to play the new Thief,(which is going to be out of stock veeeerrrry soon because Looking Glass closed down), and the old one to remind myself of how complete this package is, I know I will enjoy playing these games, I hope you will too :).

An alternative Gaming Experience

What made this game so awesome was the fact that it was first person, but not your typical mindless shooter. It is a game all about observation, stealth and wit. It takes patience to lurk in the shadows, watching a guard's route, waiting for him to pass you, and then knocking him on the head with your handy dandy blackjack and then pulling him into the shadows.

The levels are huge and exploring every nook and cranny is heart-pounding fun. The immersion faction is huge with this game. As another reviewer mentioned, just turn off the lights, plug the headphones in and GO! It's also a good game to play with another person as they can help you make game decisions. Warning, though, it can lead to some horrid arguments as you get a glimpse into another person's sometimes faulty logic and decision-making skills! Enough said there.

There are some drawbacks that serious gamers will be able to overcome. For instance, the graphics are a little old. The AI gets a bit predictable, the voices of the characters are goofy and annoying. The loot is like 2 polys and not very diverse. But, the hugeness of the game, and the complexity of the missions more than makes up for these minor short comings.

I still dream about this world.

Wow!! This Game`s Amazing!
I`ve never seen a game that combines:
1. Ability to Hide in the shadows
2. Ability to take things
3. Ability to control your walk

If you want something different, this is your game!
Part III? When? Fans Are Waiting!!

Graphics are dated

I'm split on how to rate this game. The strategic aspect of the game is great. I enjoy sneaker games and Thief is supposed to be the gold standard. But I could not play this game. I installed it and ran it and then after the first mission I gave up. The graphics are too dated.

What did it for me were the trees that were low polygon oblate spheroids. After FarCry, Thief's graphics just don't do it for me.

If you like classic games, Thief should be good, but the dated graphics were a deal breaker for me. If only someone could graft a current game engine onto the game and update the textures and models...

These are great games. You will need to download the Indeo plugin, though. These cost money. Remember that when you purchase these.
These are a fantastic series and very competitive. Not for the faint of heart, either.
Have fun!!!

Amazing Game even 10 years later

I've played all 4 Thief games (Thief 1, 2, 3 and Gold), and I'm still hooked nearly 10 years later. An engrossing storyline that weaves through all 3 games and gameplay that always seems to challenge you is part of the allure, but what makes it even greater is that you can develop your own missions and entire storylines; for those that have played through Thief 2, there is an expansion, "Shadows of the Metal Age" that you can download, for free.

With all of those features (despite the outdated graphics), these games are a must-have for anyone that stealth games where the focus is to enjoy the story and not kill everything in sight.

----Repair----
Just a note - people with Dual-Core or HyperThreaded systems (and/or using DirectSound), Thief 1 & 2 will freeze up if you're running DirectSound above DirectX 8 OR are using a Dual-Core/Hyperthreaded processor. To play, you'll need to disable those features, or in the case of a Dual-Core, run the game and then set it's process to use only one of your CPU's.
