There is a difference between survival horror games

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

At first i thought that every horror game was the same, i thought after playing the resident evil saga that they'll go in the same direction, well, that changed when i played haunting grounds, well, that game made me see that i could be scared a lot with a game and that not every survival horror has to be the same. I then got this game, well, it's scary, not as much as haunting grounds, but the gameplay, game style is very different from anything that i have played before and this game is really good and scary enough to make you wait 'till the night to play it.

The good thing is that you can play events in time, you play a piece of the game from the day before, then in the present, and then in the future, it's a pulp fiction like horror movie.

It's a very good game, even if don't like the horror genre, the game stills makes you play it.

I give this game five stars 'cause the game has great graphics, great sound and the game simply surprised me. When i paid nine bucks with free shipping, i thought, well, let's check it out, well, the game is a bargain, cheaper as any old game but good as any new game.

I recommend this game 'cause i know it'll surprise you also.

Not enjoyable to play!

This is probably the worst game I have ever played. While the graphics and atmospheres are genuinely creepy and had the potential to be grand, I really have to say the fault lies in the design of the play. The entire game depends on so much "stealth" that it loses all its fun. I am not a video game expert, and certainly have not played enough games to qualify as one, but this one royally sucks, without a doubt!

phat

First of all I don't understand why everyone says the graphics on this game are great. Let me just say that this game has the worst graphics I've ever seen in a PS2 game. However they fit with the style. The voice acting is horrible! Beyond belief! But it fits the game perfectly. The game is never scary, but it is always filled with tension. The controls are decent, but more interesting than any other survial horor (bda splling) game out there. In a way it feels more like a memeber of the Metal Gear solid series, incomprehinsible story and all. But all in all I think this game has a wide enough appeal to strike anyone with patience. I own this game and both Fatal frames and together they are the three greatest horror games there are. Given a choice this one comes in second behind Fatal Frame I. If you love MGS or Survival (did I spele it wright?) games, you will not be dissappointed by this game.

original, scary & difficult

This game is so intelligently crafted - and if you love getting scared, you should definitely get this. The fear factor really gives Siren its edge - but prepare to devote a lot of playtime for this one.

so damned frustrating...but so much style :^/

The story, characters, setting, graphics, and sound are all top notch! The game play is usually good, but can be a little too frustrating.
I got tired of doing the beginning of a level over and over and over and over JUST to get sucker-punched by the same shibito because I couldn't tell how close I was to him (because the camera was at a wierd angle (the shibito with the shovel at the beginning of the doctor's first level)).
When I read that this game required a lot of thought, I jumped at it! Rarely do I see a game (especially a survival game) that stimulates my mind! Instead I found it really easy to figure out what needed to be done. You can most often tell which items you can interact with by just glancing at them.
Unfortunately, the fighting controls are really clunky, too.

A lot of people complain about the characters' obvious british accents, but I like them. It gives it a 70's Hong Kong kung fu movie feel! :)

I was incredibly sad when I had to quit this game. It is really really good! ...except for some of the game play.

YOU MUST HAVE THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT!!! (cannot stress this enough)
If you have ANY doubt in your ability to be patient and to play the beginning of a level over and over and over and over and over and not make any progress because the fighting is lame, then do NOT get this game! Don't even tempt yourself! It'll break your heart!

Review of Siren for the PS2

Do you need another reason not to go into haunted zombified Japanese villages at night? Probably not, but anyway, the game Siren is a solid survivor/horror title exclusively for the ps2. You get to play as a few different characters. There's a British looking guy, who's an a-hole. And then there's the girl, who is the whiniest freaking human on Earth. Even in death she's a drama queen. The plus side to this game is that all of the characters have the gift of ESP(man, what are the odds?) That means that you can utilize your psychic powers to look through the eyes of the zombies. This is cool becauase you can enjoy the experience of hunting and murdering yourself. This power of view-changing is vital to figure out what you attackers are doing, and possibly eating. If you don't have a shotgun handy, you can use the improvised weapon, say, a fire poker. Although this game has some great plusses, it's often hard to move in certain environments. The combat system is a little blocky, and is difficult to use sometimes. But overall, it's fun, except for when you're watching a zombie eat some freakish soup. Seriously, it looks like mashed lasagna. Back to the subject. A four out of five. (if only the combat system wasn't so blocky...)

OK Game

Siren Wasn't A Bad Game, It Just Wasn't What I Think A Lot Of People Expected.
They're Aren't Many Games Like Siren.
*You Play As Ten Different People In This One Town That Is Being Taken Over By "Zombie"-Like Creatures.
*Your Told To Find An Item Then Run To The Finish Line.
Sounds Easy, But Not Quite.
*These "Zombies" Are All Over The Place, And They're Not Stupid. They Can Hear When You Run, And They Will Chase You. Even Into A House! And Some Even Have Guns. Yeah So It Has A Little "Metal Gear Solid" Feeling. Just With All The Hiding.
*Now Thankfully All The People Have A Gift Call "Sightjacking", Where You Can See Through The Enemy's Eyes, So You Know If The Coast Is Clear, Or Even See An Item That Is Around Their Area.
*In Some Levels You Start Out With Two People! So Not Only Do You Have To Look After Yourself, But Now This Other Person.
-The "Zombies" Don't Die. You Can Knock Them Out With Various Melee Weopons Or A Gun Or Two. But Just For A Short Amount Of Time.
--I Had One Big Problem With The Game. Your Mission Is Usually To Get An Item, Or Flip A Switch Or Something Then Go To The Finishing Point. But They're Are Other Optional Items They Don't Tell You About That Can Be Used To Get Other Levels In The Game, And To Get The Real Ending. They're Not Easy To Get And Sometimes Up To Five Different Items! And If You Die, They're Gone! And Your Forced To Get Them All Over Again. The Game Doesnt Have A Quicksave Option Or Anything Like That.
-You Definitly Need To Be Patient Player With This One-
-Siren Does'nt Really Have Much Replay Value, You Can Get Everything In One Completion.
*I Reccomend The Stradegey Guide Because All The Items Are HARD To Find.
With All That Said, Siren Isn't All That Bad, I've Never Played A Game Like It, Pretty Original.
I Recommend Renting. Or Definitly Buying Used At A Local GameStop Store. But The Price On Here Isn't So Bad.
So If Everything I've Said Hasn't Turned You Off, Give It A Try.

I can't believe all these good reviews...

Rarely have I been so motivated to review something. I was looking for a copy of "Clock Tower" (much superior to this game) when I noticed "Siren" listed in the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" area. I couldn't believe the approval rating. Am I the only one who played this piece of junk while _not_ smoking crack? I not only hated this game, it angered me, it irked me, it roused an undying fury in me that I will carry to my grave. Possibly beyond.

I have nothing good to say about this game, except that apparently some people, somehow, enjoyed it, and good for them. For me it was the height of awfullness. Bad graphics, bad story, worst gameplay I have ever, ever seen. Yah I think someone at the start of development had some good ideas, too bad we now have "Siren"... Too dark, horrible controls, no sense of direction, path, or goal. Being constantly disoriented and hearing fumbling sounds from my nearly dark TV is irritating, not scary. Not fun.

So anyway, I just want to warn you, of all the bad games I've played this is the worst, it was a real disappointment after reading reviews and expecting some decent scares along the lines of "Resident Evil" or "Silent Hill". Hey I can stand a bad game, but this one was so bad I quit after about 15 minutes, it went to Goodwill (sorry folks at Goodwill). Yet another reason why I'm getting leery of sinking money into games.

If you're one of the lucky few who can somehow enjoy this piece of garbage, then more power to you. Otherwise, check out some of the really good games people don't seem to know about, like "Ico", man that one will reward you.
