Half-Life 2: Truly Game of the Year

I bought this about 3 years after its release and am still amazed. Bots are great, graphics are spot on, and for its quality it doesn't require too special of a computer. Runs on the 20 inch iMac at 60 fps. Highly recommend this and go so far to call it best fps I've ever played.

Half-Life 2 is by far the best game for the PC, and maybe for every other system. It's about half as long as the original, but will still give you a good 17 hours of gameplay. Plus, it never gets dull.
The greatest edition by far is the Gravity Gun. Now you don't need to worry about only using 2 bullets, 1 grenade, etc. because the gravity gun needs no ammo. You can pull things from far away, break doors and use the splinters as flying knives, or throw a propane tank at zombies.
The graphics are also, in one word, amazing. If you can max them out, their breathtaking. If you can't, They still are. That's another advantage, almost any system can play it, no questions asked. I can run everything at medium, with the FPS getting below 10 very rarely, on my old
Toshiba laptop with 256mb of RAM, 64mb video card, 2.6GHz processor. And, any computer with at least DirectX 7.0 can run it.
Now, about steam: I don't really see what the big deal is. You can run it in offline mode, and it works fine for me. But for those that it doesn't, there is a little program called SteamBuster.
Another great thing is what you get in the package. Half-Life 2 alone is worth the 15. But you also get Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life: Source, which separate would be around 30 bucks.
All in all, there is no excuse for not buying this.

perfect!

best game out there! valve has outdone there self again!

pros:

great graphics

great music

great weapen controls

cons:

theres lots of glitches if you dont do something right then you have to reload your game so you may want to save ALOT

it takes a LLLLOOOOOONNNNGGG time to load and the "scanning steam game updates" stops you from playing the game for about an hour then another hour to load the update

you run out of ammo fast

if your a hard core gammer and like fps games this is the best!

Awesome Game

Recent Network Problems Make Deathmatch Unplayable

Be warned: things have changed since this game was voted "game of the year". For at least the past two months, the multiplayer deathmatch (the core attraction to the game, if you ask most players) has been hobbled by laggy connections. You start out ok, but after 60 seconds you start to "freeze" in place while the other players bounce around you. After several seconds, the input from your controls seems to all get processed at the same time, resulting in a dramatic change in your status (usually on the far corner of the map in a bloody heap on the floo). Search for "Laggy" on the steampowered.com forums and you will see people asking how to fix it. I've read all of those posts, and the problem is that none of the proposed solutions works. Worse than that, there is no indication that Valve is aware of the problem, let alone interested in fixing it. Do not let the (well-deserved) accolades for this game in the past tempt you to buy it today. I *love* HalfLife 2 multiplayer, and can't take more than 15 minutes before logging off in disgust.

The single-player version is easy, and will entertain you for 14 days, tops. It is fun, but definitely nothing special.

To say this game is great is an understatement. The level of immersion and graphical quality present in this game are almost unparalleled. The best part of this edition is the addition of Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. There's nothing better than playing multiplayer with the gravity gun! Also, this version is far superior to both the original PC and XBox versions.

Let me just say, for the record, half life 2 is one of your standard fps. The real centerpiece of this game is its beautiful character design and superb story line, not to mention the overwhelming graphics. The actual gameplay is the same in any other fps. However, the game is still quite an accomplishment. The collector's edition gives a few good features and some useless ones. First of all, there was no pint of including counter strike source in the box since you can get it off of steam once you install Half Life 2. The boxset also includes half life 1 and half life deathmatch. I am a big fan of the half life series ever since the first one came out, and i am glad to see valve going back to its roots. They have really polished the original half life well. As for half life death match, ive only played it twice, so i can't really comment on it. Bottom Line: This boxset is well worth your money, you can relive the glory days of half life 1 and marvel at the new-age Half Life 2. The price isn't bad either.
