Awesome Game

Let me just say, for the record, half life 2 is one of your standard fps. The real centerpiece of this game is its beautiful character design and superb story line, not to mention the overwhelming graphics. The actual gameplay is the same in any other fps. However, the game is still quite an accomplishment. The collector's edition gives a few good features and some useless ones. First of all, there was no pint of including counter strike source in the box since you can get it off of steam once you install Half Life 2. The boxset also includes half life 1 and half life deathmatch. I am a big fan of the half life series ever since the first one came out, and i am glad to see valve going back to its roots. They have really polished the original half life well. As for half life death match, ive only played it twice, so i can't really comment on it. Bottom Line: This boxset is well worth your money, you can relive the glory days of half life 1 and marvel at the new-age Half Life 2. The price isn't bad either.

Steam-Blasted

The game's great, but jumping through all 579 hoops required to register a Steam account just isn't worth the time and effort. Lord help you if you lose your Steam password, as I did.
The process for lost password: they send you an e-mail with your registration number and ask you a "secret question", which is: "what was the last secret passphrase we asked you?"!!!!!! I lost the password, but I'm supposed to know not only the "passphrase", but when it was asked?
You can't even e-mail these clowns for support unless you create a "support account", yet ANOTHER password!
Doing my taxes was far easier than dealing with Steam. They managed to kill any enjoyment I might have had from the game.

To say this game is great is an understatement. The level of immersion and graphical quality present in this game are almost unparalleled. The best part of this edition is the addition of Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. There's nothing better than playing multiplayer with the gravity gun! Also, this version is far superior to both the original PC and XBox versions.

Recent Network Problems Make Deathmatch Unplayable

Be warned: things have changed since this game was voted "game of the year". For at least the past two months, the multiplayer deathmatch (the core attraction to the game, if you ask most players) has been hobbled by laggy connections. You start out ok, but after 60 seconds you start to "freeze" in place while the other players bounce around you. After several seconds, the input from your controls seems to all get processed at the same time, resulting in a dramatic change in your status (usually on the far corner of the map in a bloody heap on the floo). Search for "Laggy" on the steampowered.com forums and you will see people asking how to fix it. I've read all of those posts, and the problem is that none of the proposed solutions works. Worse than that, there is no indication that Valve is aware of the problem, let alone interested in fixing it. Do not let the (well-deserved) accolades for this game in the past tempt you to buy it today. I *love* HalfLife 2 multiplayer, and can't take more than 15 minutes before logging off in disgust.

The single-player version is easy, and will entertain you for 14 days, tops. It is fun, but definitely nothing special.

best game out there! valve has outdone there self again!

pros:

great graphics

great music

great weapen controls

cons:

theres lots of glitches if you dont do something right then you have to reload your game so you may want to save ALOT

it takes a LLLLOOOOOONNNNGGG time to load and the "scanning steam game updates" stops you from playing the game for about an hour then another hour to load the update

you run out of ammo fast

if your a hard core gammer and like fps games this is the best!

If anyone can find a first person shooter that can beat this one I will be not only delighted because i can buy it and play it but rather extremely surprised because ive played many pc games and to be honest this puts all of those to shame. And i ran it on a laptop. If you like a linear story that is extremely realistic you WILL NOT be disappointed. Best PC game to date that I have ever played and to say the least ive been around the block. Once you play it you will see why it clearly won the game of the year.

I bought this about 3 years after its release and am still amazed. Bots are great, graphics are spot on, and for its quality it doesn't require too special of a computer. Runs on the 20 inch iMac at 60 fps. Highly recommend this and go so far to call it best fps I've ever played.
