Not the full Half-Life collection

Although it includes Opposing Force, Counter-Strike and Team Fortress Classic, it is filled mainly with things that you can download from the internet with the exception of Opposing Force. Team Fortress comes with the Half-Life patch, and the version of Counter-Strike that comes with the pack is the retail (buggy) version. I am running on a 512k ADSL connection and so the only 2 things in the pack I needed was Half-Life and Opposing Force...

Sierra has an newer version of the Platinum Edition but it is not reflected here on Amazon.com

It includes Half-Life, Team Fortress Classic, Opposing Force, Counter-Strike and Blue Shift. It is somewhat similar to the Generations Edition.

AWESOME, GREAT, FABULOUS...AN DID I MENTION AWESOME???

THIS GAME ROCKS!!! PLUS THIS PLATINUM EDITION GIVES U ALL THE HALF-LIFE GAMES THAT ARE OUT....INCLUDES: HALF-LIFE GAME OF YEAR EDITION, HALF-LIFE: OPPOSING FORCE, HALF-LIFE COUNTER STRIKE, AND TEAM FORTRESS CLASSIC! Now some people are saying "why buy", when u can get Counter strike and TFC for free of the internet by downloading them. Well, downloading them would be nice but....some of us dont have DSL or Cable....the TFC download is HUGE it wouldve taken me hours to get it all, and also sometimes there are huge glitches in the game when u download it off the internet. thats why i never download demos or games off the internet anymore. But anyway...all in all this is a great buy, so if you cant download them, or dont want to BECAUSE ITS A CHEAP RIPOFF!! LoL na im just playing....just buy the !@#$%^ game, u wont be dissapointed. It combines the gore and mayhem of Quake and Unreal and the Strategicness of games like Delta Force and silent scope! well, cya guys later...dont forget to buy this game

I would give this 1,000,000,000 stars if I could

I went to a store one day and saw a Rainbow Six bundle and a Half-life bundle. I talked to this veteran gamer and he told me he knew that Rainbow 6 were the best games that he had ever played. I asked him about Half-life and he said that he had never played it. I ended up buying Rainbow 6 and I was wowed at the strategical gameplay. It was amazing. Of course I wanted to see what Half-life was like. I downloaded the demo and almost wet my pants at how amazing it was. You get great guns and the graphics are very real. It intense and scary. I ended up buying this pack and I never thought of rainbow six the same way again. The best game in the world for veteran or even novice gamers. This comes with Half-life, Opposing force, team fortress, wanted, firearms, redeption, and counter-strike. After you buy this buy blue-shift which gives you more amazing graphics. Get these. Get them now.

Half-Life Remains Unmatched

You would think that after a couple of years, something comparable or better would come out, but I haven't found it yet. The most important part of this software bundle is, of course, Half-Life, but Opposing Force is about as good as sequels come.

Half-Life- an excellent storyline that keeps you gripped and forces you to continue playing for hours on end. For a newcomer, some of the puzzles are very frustrating, but extremely rewarding. This is a program that will leave you addicted to good gaming, and searching (unsuccessfully) for more games like it.

The feel of the controls and the weapons is also excellent. The quality of graphics and textures is mediocre by current standards, but in fairness, HL is one of the few games that will run with minimal system requirements (great for playing at work!) The ending of Opposing Force isn't very satisfying, but it doesn't detract much from the overall experience. Sierra also released Blue-Shift, another chapter in the story, but its short length and terrible ending aren't on par with HL or OF.

Multiplayer modes (and seperate games- counter-strike and team fortress) are a nice bonus.

This is a pretty fun game in singleplayer mode. it isn't the best, as others are saying. The story is simple.. its an outline of a story at best. Most of the time i had no idea why i was doing the things i was doing... just that i had to do them to keep the game going.

Most of the trouble i have with this game comes from the way the player moves. The default movement is Run. The problem with this is, when you stop, you slide about an inch.. its like the player has ice on his shoes. This wouldn't be so bad, but there are plenty of situations that occur that require you to stop on a dime, or die. You do have the option to hold down the shift key to walk, but there is no toggle run/walk option. (unless you're into editing game files). This is a pain, because the game already has your hands all over the keyboard moving around and shooting things.

Another complaint i have is with the sound. I can't understand a single thing the NPCs are saying most of the time. It sounds like they're talking through a walkie talkie.. their voices are very distorted. This is even worse because there is usually some very loud background noise occuring while they're talking to you. I have yet to be able to find a fix for this problem.

Another thing: It took me several hours to get this game working with my video card. The models looked terrible, and the mouse movements were very jerky. I couldn't even get the game to work right in Direct 3d mode... i had to use Open GL. I have an ATI Rage Pro.. and i had to search all over the web for a fix to my problem. As it turns out, there wasn't one fix... there were several fixes that involved editing the game files. After much trial and error, i finally got the game working properly.

All in all, this game is pretty challenging. I found myself on the verge of dying through almost the entire game. There are parts where the number of aliens and soldiers to deal with is overwhelming. It should keep you playing it for a while.

It is not the most atmospheric game i've ever played. Almost every level is the same thing with different (or more) aliens to deal with. For a truly creepy and atmospheric game, i'd suggest American McGee's Alice. It has some of the most beautiful level design i've seen.

For a game that is as immersive and addictive as this game claims to be, i'd go with Deus Ex. It may be the best single player game around.

Finally, the multiplayer.. i can't really get it to work right. I have played the training level to Counter Strike.. and it looks like it will be really cool.. if only i could get the thing to play online. I suspect this problem will involve more of the web searching and good ol' trial and error to solve, and i'll probably be rescuing hostages in no time..

Assuming all this stuff really does work the way it's supposed to, i'd say 4 games in one package is a pretty sweet deal.. but i would reccommend a working knowledge of how these games work before venturing into this high-maintenance package.

Half-Life has been voted the game of the year and the game of the decade. Why not game ever? It has an almost flawless engine which will allow you to create countless mods from the game engine. If you're a programmer and want to have some fun with what you create, this is the game for you.

A great series

Half life platinum is a pretty nice collection but a little bit expensive for something you could get off the internet. I had a lot of trouble dealing with the collection, due to all the patches they make every day. If your looking for some multiplayer action, don't buy this unless you have a cable modem or better. Anyhting below that and your ...! I'm a 56k owner and I can't play ANY of the multiplayer games. So I pretty much payed 65 bucks (when it was new) for only the first and second game! Although for a long time I was able to play them all. While you can play the games, you'll be occupied for hours though! so not too bad.

Great

I'm tired of people saying "DO NOT BUY THIS". How can they tell us what to do. And saying "2 out of every 3 people cheat on multiplayer". That is not Valve's problem. This is one of the best games I ever bought. I loved it, I still love it. I'm not going to tell you to get this. I think it is a very well done game. If you get this go to www.planethalflife.com or if you are interested. They have some great half-life MODS(don't worry you'll understand if you get it). Great game. Great fun.

Bye

Why is this the best PC game ever? Well, let's find out...

A few short years ago when Half-Life was originally released, my life began to change. No longer was I worried about what television show would be airing that evening, but instead, what I needed to do in order to defeat the level I was currently on in Half-Life. And so it became an addiction... When Opposing Force came out, my need for more Half-Life was fulfilled. I also began to play Team Fortress Classic (TFC) online for hour upon hour everyday. These two new expansions/mods for Half-Life were by far the best games out at the time. With regularity I still have urges to play TFC today. However, none of these even begin to compare to Counter-Strike.
Counter-Strike, still today, is hands down the best game of any type in history. It combines the genres of strategy and first person shooter like no other game ever has. For the past 15 months I have played CS for about 4 hours every day, and I have never even begun to get tired of it in the least bit (and I usually only play a game for a week or two). Although many may tell you that broadband is needed to play this game, thousands of people play it everyday with slower connections without a problem at all.
After reading this, you are probably asking yourself whether or not you should buy this game. Well, the answer is yes! It's not often that you get the chance to own four of the best games of all time for [the price], which is the case here; so go ahead, indulge yourself and buy it today!
