Great Game, But Don't Buy This Edition

Half-Life is one of the best games ever created, but just warning you don't buy this version becaus... Team Fortress and Counter-Strike witch you can download of the Internet for free...! I recommend getting the Adrenaline Pack because you get Half-Life and the Expansion Pack together witch is $10.00 cheaper than buying them separately.

Now don't think that I am not recommending Half-Life because it is one of the greatest games ever made just don't buy this version, because you're wasting your money!

Good, but not in this version

This is probably the best game that I have ever played. It has everything from action to puzzle solving, to a scare factor that is like no other game that I have ever seen. The AI is nothing short of incredible, and is hauntingly spooky the farther along that you progress in the game. This game also has highly detailed backgrounds ranging from a missle launch site to a huge (and I mean huge, this game is probably the largest that I have played also) Facility to an Alien planet. All of these levels are intertwined very well, and this is probably the game that "proved" to everyone that first-person-shooters can have stories too. The story is a great one, turning the character that you play as into a hero. The game is very addicting, and is a lot of fun to play. The only problem that I have with it is the way that Sierra created this version, which makes you pay for products that you do not have to. This product includes, Half Life, Opposing Force, Team Fortress Classic, and Counter Strike. The thing is, that you are able to download both counter strike and team fortress classic right of the internet(with team fortress classic included in the patch available on the actual Sierra main site) My advice is to buy the Game of the Year edition(which includes Half Life and Opposing Force, and then just download the other two games for free, saving $...!!!!

It's all here!!!

You have everything to keep you busy for months maybe years.

4 CDs including:

-Half-Life - The basic game, it is an instant classic. A must have for every gamer!!!

-Half-Life: Opposing Force - You get to play as the guys who were trying to hunt you down in half-life. Plus tons of new weapons and awesome multiplay

-Team Fortess Classic - A fun Multiplayer game that is based on the half-life engine. You can select your role (Sniper, Engineer, Soldier...) which each have their seperate weapons and skills.

-Counter Stike - In my Opinion, the best game in this package. You get Counter-Strike plus several awesome mods (Firearms, wanted...) In Counter Strike you chose your role (Terrorist or Counter-Terrorist) your goal is to carry out a variety of tasks like rescue hostages (CT) bomb a target (Terrorist)... You earn money for each kill and for each round you win (there is a smaller cash award to the loser so he can buy more weapons) with this money you have to buy gear and weapons. Like, if you have $3000 you can buy an AK-47 ($2500) and have money for a few magazines (AMMO) but you wouldn't have enough left for kevlar (bullet proof vest) but you can buy an MP5 ($1500) and have enough money left for kevlar but have less firepower. So there is a strategical aspect to this game.

All in all, I would recommend this to everyone interesting in Computer games. This also makes a great gift (I know I would love to receive this if I didn't have it). So if you miss out on this package. you are missing out on one of the greatest game packages in History.

It's all here and worth every penny.

The best gaming package ever!

The best way to get into Half-Life is to own it and every element of it so why not own it for the price of one game! If you are like me you like to have it all. I started playing the Half-Life games, purchasing them one by one spending alot of money, but it was worth it. But now since all the games are bundled together you can take the same path many people have been doing; starting at Half-Life and working to Counter-Strike and being a Half-Life MASTER for cheap!

Half-Life -- You are Gordon Freeman, a research associate at the Black Mesa Research facility. It was just another day at the lab until your experiment blew up in your face. Now, with aliens coming through the walls, a military death squad on the rampage, and your panicking colleagues at the top of the endangered species list, you need to scramble to stay alive.

Team Fortress Classic -- This online action game features a wide array of character classes from Medic to Spy to Demolition Man enlisted in a unique style of online team warfare. TFC has been downloaded by millions of people, becoming one of the most popular online action games of all time.

Half-Life: Opposing Force -- Return to the Black Mesa Research facility as one of the military specialists sent to eliminate Gordon Freeman. In addition to its exciting single-player experience, Opposing Force features a large collection of fresh multiplayer content including new weapons, player characters and 15 new multiplayer maps.

Half-Life: Counter-Strike -- The ultimate multiplayer gaming experience, Half-Life: Counter-Strike combines all the elements of the Half-Life online universe with all new single- and multiplayer content. At the heart of this package is the Counter-Strike MOD, the number one played online action game built as an add-on for Half-Life. Counter-Strike is team-based, and casts players in the role of terrorist or counter-terrorist. Also included are three new MODs created by some of the top level designers within the Half-Life community.

Counter-Strike has been the last big Half-Life mod out since Team Fortress Classic and will be in heavy competition with Team Fortress Classic 2 when that ships.

Just do yourself a favor and play all of Half-Life. It is a fun and extremely exiting adventure that you wont regret!

The quintessence of excellence.

I've downloaded hundreds of game demos since owning my first computer in 1999. Maybe it's because I have no life, maybe it's because I have nothing better to do, but I thoroughly enjoy it and find it entertaining, nonetheless. Most game demos that I download usually only last anywhere from a day to a week on my harddrive and then they are uninstalled and sent to the recycle bin, indefinitely.

I downloaded the Halflife demo in 1999 and found the demo, alone, such an entertaining and excellent game that during the entire tenure that I had my computer (7 months) it was never uninstalled, and I played it nearly every day!

Although the game is approximately 4 years old now, and I have seen the newest and best FPS out there, I only recently purchased Halflife (Half-life:Platinum Edition) and being the expert analyzer that I am of computer games, I can honestly say that Halflife is -up to this day- the best FPS that I have ever played, hands-down. It's definitely the most revolutionary FPS that has ever been developed for the PC since Doom.

To begin with, kudos to Halflife for installing so quickly on my new computer, for it's extremely user-friendly and effective game setup options and for actually functioning (and functioning EXTREMELY well in all regards) under my Windows XP operating system. Most games that came out only TWO years ago -much less FOUR- are not XP compatible.

Halflife's graphics -though dated compared to more recent games- are still very good and very acceptable, even by today's standards. The sounds in Halflife are extremely immersive, realistic, and at times very scary. They really bring the game to life and are superb in every facet, from weapon-firing to eldritch monster sounds to elevator doors shutting, etc. Halflife excels especially where it counts the most: the actual gameplay.

This game's story is very interesting and original. The character you play is Gordon Freeman who works at a secret -mostly underground- technological development institution (similar to Area 51?) and an experiment goes awry, causing the spawning of a smorgasbord of different monsters and attracting the attention of the military who's mission is to cover this "accident up" from what I can gather and eliminate Freeman and everyone else at the facility. What amazes and baffles me more than anything else is the actual length of the single player campaign. I've been playing it for at least 30 hours and have not finished it yet! I shake my head and wonder how the developers of Halflife made such a huge game; the facility is beyond gargantuan; I've had to have travelled dozens of square miles so far. The environments are extremely interesting and because of this and many more reasons, the game NEVER becomes boring. In fact, I could easily spend every waking hour playing it for two weeks in a row and I would never tire of it.

In a synopsis, Halflife is the most interesting, funnest, most addictive and revolutionary FPS that I have ever come across -up to this present day- since Doom and I have YET to play it in multiplayer mode! When it came out in '98 it would have to have been rated 10/10; even NOW, I would rate it 8.5/10...

Half-Life and Online playing

Honestly, this Platinum edition offers everything you could want in a first person "shooter" game.

In the package, you get Half-Life, Opposing Force, Team Fortress, and Counter Strike. All games are more than worthy of being called classics in their own time.

HOWEVER, what truly pushes this over the top is the ability to get ONLINE and fight with other human opponents.

As a lover of DOOM, Descent, and Duke Nukem 3D, I thought I had played all the best first-person shooter games (as of 1998). Then I played Half-Life!

With an NVidia GForce2, I am getting between 60-99 FPS (frames per second). The graphics are excellent and the play is smooth.

One warning though with this game: ONCE YOU PLAY IT ONLINE, YOU WILL NEVER EVER HAVE ENOUGH TIME IN YOUR LIFE TO PLAY THIS GAME. It is truly awesome and the Half-Life community is a welcoming one...as well as challenging.

Simply put: BUY THIS GAME...GET CONNECTED...AND PLAY UNTIL YOUR EYEBALLS ROLL BACK IN YOUR HEAD.

Dont buy this, it isn't a complete set

This compilation of 4 great Half-Life based games is a somewhat bastardized version of the superior title which was released under the same name a while later. If you buy this version, you are not getting the entire collection. The new version contains yet another expansion to Half-Life that is worth playing.

The original Platinum Collections contain:
1. Half-Life (The original, which started it all, a great game.)
2. Half-Life:Opposing force (1st official expansion to Half-Life)
3. Team Fortress Classic (A mediocre multiplayer mod from Sierra)
4. Counter-Strike (The ultimate multiplayer game. This alone is worth the entire price, although you can get it for free if you own Half-Life, which you will if you buy this collection.)

The new version contains an expansion to the original called Blue Shift. In this expansion you play as a security guard in the Black Mesa compound (the same area as the original). It is just as fun as the original, but shorter.

You can usually find the newer pack (it is grey, not platinum or silver, and says 5 games in one on the front) at any large chain retail stores such as Target, Wal-Mart,or K-Mart. Hope this review can be of some help.

Half-Life has been one of the most talked about games this year. I think Half-Life Platinum Addition is a great gift to all those die hard Half-Lifers out there who enjoy releasing some stress from a hard day's work. It encorperates a well developed plot that actually requires a brain with great action that anyone would enjoy. It includes the original Half-Life and the award winning expansion packs of Team Fortress, Opposing Force and COUNTERSTRIKE!!! If those games don't keep you on your toes, while salivating all over your keyboard, I dont know what will.

The Best Game Ever!

Please don't let someone discourage you from buying this game. I have Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 1.5, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift (all variants of the Half-Life game). This game is the only game you will play once you try it out. It has an actual story line, so the game makes (somewhat) sense (If being a research scientist in a Top Secret U.S. Gov't base makes sense to you). But yes, if you play over the internet, there is a cheating problem, but Valve and Sierra are working on a new anti-cheat system. If multiplayer isn't your thing, then YOU SHOULD PLAY THE SINGLE PLAYER!! (duh). It is worth the money if you like a story line and excellent gameplay.

Addicting and FUN!

Although users might shy away from Half-Life's gory content, I found the gameplay to be quite addicting and fun. The single-player started out very intriguingly and i liked the plot a lot, and the multiplayer action against people online was great!
