Novel game with excellent water graphics

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

I really enjoyed ATV Off-road Fury and have been waiting all summer for this game. The wait was worth it. This game has INCREDIBLE water graphics. The backgrounds and the water are just beautiful to look at. There are a ton of courses (18 in all). The physics of the game are also pretty realistic. Having driven see-do's for real, I was pleasantly surprised that the way this game presents the 'ride' is surprising real. For example, the craft bounces on the waves just the same way that it does in real life. If you make tight turns in the game you slow down and the craft goes far down in the water; same in the game.

There are also various other games besides just career mode. There are competitive trick competitions between you and another human (similar to a game of HORSE). There is also a 'collect the most bouys' game for two human players. That is my favorite 'side game.'

In career mode you are occassionally invited to race a computer controlled racer. If you win, you unlock that racer to be used in other aspects of the game.

The game is actually pretty hard to master because not understanding how to make turns in the water can slow you down considerably. You will find that it is a challenge to finish first or even second if you have more than a couple of accidents during a race.

Tricks! How can I forget about Tricks! Tricks are required if you want to win races. As you do tricks your see-do gets more powerful (i.e. handles better and has higher top speed). I've found that the only way to win some races is to have a full-charged power meter. The tricks are very similar to ATV Offroad racer.

If you liked ATV Offroad Fury you will probably like this one too!

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

This game is way underrated! I loved it! I tried waveralley and the gamecube one and it was ok.. But nothing compares to the gameplay of this baby.. I have a 61" bigscreen and this game rocks on it. The soundtrack is really great also. I was surprised by this first offering from ATARI and INfogames and looking forward to more.. on a 1-10 scale this game is a 10.5!

Having a Sea doo I know I cant do these stunts but its a blast!!

I have 2 favorite games now.. Splashdown and Grand Theft Auto 3. The rest of my games are gathering dust.. Go buy this one if you like racing games.. Its way more entertaining than GT3 or Nascar

-Happy new year

A Great Game

Splashdown is a great game. The best thing is the graphics. The water looks like real water! It is very easy to learn and it has a great soundtrack. The only bad thing is that even in free ride mode, you have to pass buoys on the side it is pointing to. If you don't, the jet ski stalls. Also, if you leave the track and go far out to sea, a giant tentacle comes out of the water and throws you very far and its funny. BUY THIS GAME!!!

A very good game!

This game is a really good one. If you like racing games, you'll love this game. There are over 7 levels, over four characters, and 20 diffrent tricks to preform. The levels rock. But the only problem is, after you play alot, you get pretty bored. But I guess that happens with other games also. Also, there are cool songs. But sometimes, the songs get cut off with out finishing. If your a race game lover, I advise you to get this game. It's worth it!

Pretty water, but is it fun?

Yeah it's pretty fun.

But you know what bothers me most about this game? The trick system. Most of it is just button combinations, like in a fighting game. You don't feel much connection to the buttons you press and what the animations are doing. It feels a little too restricted and just not that thrilling. You can do a back flip but it's really slow - impossible to do two of them in one ramp. As far as barrel rolls, well, there are none. In Wave Race 64, they might not have been a big variety of stuff, but I was actually maneuvering the watercraft in the air. When I would land a double barrel roll I let out a big fat YESSSS. I never say "YESSSS" when I play this game. But yeah, the water is pretty dang pretty to look at. The rider models ain't too shabby either, although they all look pretty much the same. I wish the game had a freestyle mode where it focused on pulling off tough tricks. Even in free ride, I've tried to ramp around but everything seems pretty regulated. Things were in Wave Race 64 too, but all you needed was an imagination as well as a little creativity and you could take that game APART, LOL. But yeah, Splashdown's water is pretty dang pretty to look at.

Another thing is the music... It doesn't appeal to my taste particularly - but that's just me (I would have gone with a more generic aquatic sounding music that anyone could get used to). I wouldn't say that the game sucks for its music though. If you like Smashmouth and The Donnas (which I do not) then you'll be fine. Even if you don't, just turn it down low and it ain't so bad since you're distracted by the pretty water.

I don't want to give you the idea that this game sucks with all my nitpicking. There are a suprising amount of tracks, good control, unlockables, and secret shortcuts. It's worth getting for the price that it's selling at. Oh yeah, and one more thing - pretty water.

I feel it is a good action game, but due to high cost, people would think twice before buying it. Better try it first. I cannot say much about this game as I have not played it, but I have played many other games full of fun for price half of this game.
