The best game I've ever played on Playstation

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1
Date: January 21, 2006
Author: Amazon User

This game was easily the best game I've ever played on a playstation. This is a high honor despite not being the best game out there in multiple areas.

my grades

Graphics A

they were nothing really special, but then considering the game format, of war with large numbers, it's hard to expect that. The characters and landscapes are good enough for this type of game to be given an A

Levels and Characters A++

this game has about 15 planet levels to choose from in addition to an equal amount of space levels. The levels were well though out and look very nice. None are hard to figure out and none are boring at all, except for maybe Jabbas Palace. There are several amazingly thought out characters and many different weapons to use. There is everything from pistols to grenade launchers and even a weapon called a darkcaster which does 90% damage with one shot. The vehicles are beautiful and have good manuverability and interesting weapons of their own. There are 40+ different units to choose from ranging from the wookie, about 10 diffrent jedi, and the white snow creatures from hoth. There are 15+ diffrent vehicles ranging from speederbikes to snail tanks. Each and every one has a unique weapon, secondary weapon, and some even have turrets with a completely different weapon on them for a friend to man. There is absolutely no end to the possibilites that come from the vehicles units and levels. I havent even began to talk about the units and vehicles available for space wars; they are equally as amazing.

Campaign B+

There are a couple of campaign modes that deal with the Clone Wars and the rise of the rebel rebellion. They go through many maps and require you to destroy certain facilities and people like Grevious etc.. They can get kind of repetitive and have little or no replay value. They basically throw you into a battle between your squadrant and you, and the enemy squadrant and their "leader" if there is one on that level at all.

Online C+

Online play is the only part of this game that dissapoints me. There is a lot of lag because of the large amount of people that most games can hold... up to 25. There is no AI players online so if you choose to sacrifice the full scale wars for less lag, then the game becomes failry boring because some levels are large and to find someone to kill, it could take minutes. A nice feature however is the auto vote for kicking traitors. If someone kills a teamate more than once in a certain amount of time, a little box will appear on the side of the screen asking you to choose the left or right arrow buttons and vote on whether to ban that person or not from the game.

Other game modes and options A+++

Theres is no end to the different modes of gameplay available. You can choose things such as galactic conquest, which start you out with a small amount of planets and limited untis and supplies. You have to then battle your way through every planet, buying upgrades and units until you control every single planet. There is also instant action for you and your friends to play and a lot more.

Overall A+
There is a lot of replay value for this game which makes it well worth buying.

Star Wars gaming at its best !!!

I only recently bought Battlefront 1 because it was reduced to only 20 dollars & I am a big fan of Star Wars. I figured I'd take a chance on a Star Wars game even though usually they disappoint me a lot, but this time I was instantly addicted. Because I liked it so much, the next week I went out & bought Battlefront 2 & its even better.

I found it a lot harder than the first one at first. You seem to have to be much more accurate with your shooting to take down your enemies on the new one than before & enemy AI seems a LOT more intelligent than on Battlefront 1.

After playing a few levels on Campaign mode, I soon picked up the new combat system & was back to kicking some CIS butt again in no time. Many of the cool features from Battlefront 1 are back (switchable 1st & 3rd person views, different characters to choose when you respawn etc) but its the many new features that make this title stand out above its predecessor, especially the ability to switch to a different class of soldier while standing at one of your command posts.

Campaign mode is much better than on the first game because it actually has mission based objectives to complete rather than just winning by taking command posts / depleting enemy reinforcements (which you cant do anyway as they have unlimited reinforcements & yours go down & replenish when you complete an objective). Also it now has an in depth storyline following how an elite unit of Clone troopers eventually becomes "Vaders Fist", the most feared imperial batallion in the galaxy.

Galactic Conquest mode is more in depth too & you have to actually build your army & fleet up from nothing, spending the credits you earn from winning battles on unlocking new troops & bonuses to use in other battles. The rules are similar to before but you now take turns to move your fleet around space & you will fight when you either meet an enemy fleet in space or attack an enemy controlled planet.

The new space battles are great to break up the ground war battles, but take a little while to get used to at first & other new features such as playable Jedi & Sith are cool too. There are many hero / villain characters you can control in the game such as Darth Maul, Darth Vader, Evil Anakin, Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan, Yoda, Boba & Jango Fett, Han Solo, Leia & even the Emperor. Each have their own unique combos & moves. You can also play as various indigenous species in 'hunt' mode battles, such as Tuskan Raiders, Jawas, Ewoks, Gungans & Geonosians. Even the standard factions have new weapons & characters, such as Commanders who can rally nearby troops into a frenzy, a rebel spy who uses a cloaking device to sneak up on the enemy invisibly, a new droid with totally new weapons including a poison projectile & engineers in place of pilots on the land battles, who are now equipped with a shotgun.

There are some welcome returns from the previous game within the maps of Battlefront 2, such as modified versions of Hoth, Endor, Mos Eisley & Geonosis, but there are some really cool new maps such as the Tantive IV (the shootout on Leia's ship that is boarded by the empire at the very beginning of Episode IV), Jabba Palace, The Death Star Interior & new maps from Episode III such as Mustafar, Utapau & the space battle over Coruscant.

All in all, this is a great game with a ton of replay value whether you are playing solo or split screen with a friend. I havent tried it online as I have no hispeed connection, but I can only imagine that it would be a lot of fun.

If you are a fan of Star Wars, or just a fan of nonstop action packed shooters.... then this title is for you.

not what I expected!

Yes it is a good game but it can be a bit confusing and frustrating at times. The single player campaigns are too hard because your allies are too stupid and die easily. The Jedi "enemies" are too powerful and could kill you with one slash. Also, it's not easy to distinguish friends from enemies (but you can set an indicator icon). I hate the single player campaign mode! It's too hard and frustrating! Don't buy unless you can play online.
Online play is the best feature of the game. I think I enjoy it more than SocomII, but it gets very annoying when there's lag.

Much Better Than The First

The second Battlefront is much better than the first. First off. You get to play as Jedi, which is really fun. You can also play as other characters, such as Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Han Solo, and much more depending on which side your on, Rebels, or Empire. Second. You get to play in space. It's real fun, but I find it much harder than when you play on foot. Third. It has a much better story. Instead of going around, planet, to planet doing the objectives, which is what the first Battlefront did. This time, your part of the 501, the best of the best. But then Order 66 comes in, and the rest of the game is about how the Empire came to rise and fall. Fourth. You get different playable carachters. You can play as the Rebel Smuggler, who has a shotgun, and fusion cutter. The fusion cutter can now repair machines and splice into enemy vehicals. When you get to one hundred, the pilot and co-pilot fall out and can be killed. Fifth. Assasin missions are in the game. Even though there are only two, they're fun. The first is assinating the Queen of Naboo. The second is assinating the three Rebel leaders on planet Yavin. Sixth. The game seemed harder than the first Batllefront. The first one was so easy that I beat everything in the game in three days. This one was much harder. There were some levels that took me a couple of tries to beat, unlike the first one that took only about ten minutes. So all in all I thought this game was much better than the first one.

One of the best

I think Star Wars Battlefront 2 is in some ways better than BF1.
The goods and the bads are stated below.

The Good

The graphics are better
There are space battles
There are more senarios
You have better weapons
You can play as Jedi/Sith

The Bad

You can't fly ships in the atmosphere
Guns overheated quicker and stay overheated longer

Over all BF2 is one of the best Star Wars games ever made.

This game rocks!

Yes, I am a die-hard Star Wars fan and yes, I love a good mission-based action game so man, if this isn't the perfect game for me! It's so much fun and there's so much freedom in the game in itself! Add on to that the space missions and Wow, this game totally blows me away! Highly recommended for anyone who is a Star Wars fan, a FPS fan, or a fan of fun gameplay!

This game deserves all 5 stars totally!! The new space format is great. The most fun format is the Assult on Mos Eisley. All Heros in a deathmatch. This game is definetly worth the $50.

This game is one of the funnest you can buy for PS2. Its a great shooter game thats not rated mature. Its really easy to pick up and in a couple of hours you will be really good at it. Theres lots of charatcers to play as like jedi, sith, wookies, rebels and so on. I also like the hunt games. In hunt games you get to play as local creatues and have battles. Example in hoth you get to be mighty wampas and you can crush the rebels. Or on mos Esilsy you can have tusken raiders vs. the little jawas. On Geonosis its the geonosians with sonic blasters vs. clone sharpsooters(snipers). The only reason i gave this game a 4 overall is that the campaign is short and i think you should be able to have more one on one jedi fights. There are many great features like global conquest in which you take over the galaxy with a certain faction. This game rocks and i would reccomend everyone get this, even if your not the best shooter(you will get better)

Great Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Star Wars Battlefront II is way better then Battlefront 1. The gameplay is the biggest hit. The shooting isn't as good as Halos shooting, but the shooting is still awesome. In addition, you can zoom in with all guns now making the game much easier. The jedi modes are also fun. If you get boared of keep getting points to unlock jedis, then just go to Mos Eisly Assualt. That levels awesome. The graphics are good but the character models are bad looking. The sound is incredible. The sound of blasters, lightsabers, voiceacting, and music help bring the Star Wars feel to life. However I hate the annoying commander who keeps saying, "We've captured a command post." That guy is so annoying. The game is long and the menus are good as well. All in all, Battlefront II is a great game. Buy it!!

Where to start?

Star Wars Battlefront 1 became one of my all time favorite video games after the first few times I played it. Naturally, I was stoked for Battlefront 2. Unfortunately, it was a HUGE disappointment.

There are so many things LucasArts tried to do with this game that just didn't work out. The HUD on the screen is next to worthless. Everything gets in the way, the mini-map is terribly cluttered, and it only shows the total ammunition you have for each weapon, not the amount of ammo in your current magazine. This is especially frustrating, seeing as half the time I get killed it's because I have to reload in the middle of a firefight with enemy troopers.

The actual gameplay is terrible as well. Everything moves much faster in Battlefront 2, including the mounted guns and gun emplacements, which, unfortunately, are also a lot weaker and don't do much more damage than a blaster rifle. No longer can you issue orders to friendly troopers either. Sometimes I'll see a group of soldiers standing around a short ways from the battle not doing anything, and because there's no "follow me" command or "move out" command my only options are to head into battle on my own and hope my troopers join up with me later, or execute them for dereliction of duty in frustration.

One of the dumbest things in Battlefront 2 is the "goal" for each character class. For example, if you kill 6 enemies with your blaster pistol, you get an upgraded sniping pistol that does more damage than your primary weapon. A cool idea, but the dumb part about it is you have to complete each goal 6-10 times before you even get the upgrade, and after you've gotten the upgrade a certain number of times it becomes your weapon when you spawn. Basically, after you've played the game for a few days and have gotten a lot of the upgrades for good you'll be able to kill 15 or more enemies each time you spawn, no sweat. Where's the challenge?

Another negative about Battlefront 2 is the inability to play as "special classes" such as the wookie warrior, or droideka, until you've killed a certain number of enemies. The "heroes" (jedi, sith, and others) are cool at first, but even they get boring. Where regular troops have an energy meter (so they can sprint short distances!), the special characters have a Force meter. You can only push so many enemies out of the way with The Force before your jedi gets tired and has to wait for it to regenerate. What a stupid concept. Oh, and the heroes' health is measured by how many enemies you kill. In other words, every hero is a vampire. If you run into trouble and get hit by a Stormtrooper, you can get back to full health simply by slaughtering a group of enemies. Another stupid concept.

The only positives in this game are the improved enemy AI, the new maps (these are actually really cool, and would have been AMAZING in Battlefront 1), the "Capture the Flag" and "Hunt" (kill the native population exclusively in the map you choose) options for different maps, and the Magnaguard character class. Overall, a decent game... but only if you haven't had the Star Wars Battlefront 1 experience.
