A Must Have!

For just under $[...], this game was superb. It is worth so much more. The game's graphics, especially the detailing and depth, is stunning. This is also a very long game. This will take you through many landscapes from the movies. The voices, music (from the movies) and sound effects are intense.

Great game, but...

..it can be utter chaos at times!! I guess I'm spoiled by Navy Seals where you are in control of your team and can meticulously call the shots. In this game, you are on your own. Your squads don't really do much for you other than get in your way. They get killed so easily. So, it's safe to say that the A.I. for your team is not all that great.

What happened with the squad-based commands where you can tell your team to defend, attack, get in, etc. I think they allow that in the first battle front.

I love the fact that you can pilot a ship!!! That's great.

When I play the game, I try to rely on my men to help out. Now, I just do it myself and I get so much further.

very impressive.

alright, let me get right to the point pros and cons.
Pros.

Being a jedi is alright not really what you would call amazing but if you want to win then this is a nice attatchment you will like.

Space battles are pretty fun for me if you like a little challenge, tactics and maybe a little break form driod blasting.

Sprinting is the greatest thing that has ever happened to battlefront. you can finnaly "move" not take baby steps like in the first.

Graphics seem to have improved your screen has more terrain and less of your soldier, also, everything is clearer, bright, and more colorful.

I love having to work to get special units. In the first you could be a soldier with "big guns" right off the back and cream everyone.

hunt is a fun addition. You can be well, jawas, wampas, tuskens, ect.

capture the flag. If your a fan of big war games involving CTF then you will love this.

Online is a great peice of work. although having to play by others rules still fun besides a few online glitches.

Now on to the cons.

Glitches everywhere! some you can use to your advantage but sometime watching your guy fall through the floor for no reason while playing online can be annoying.

good music but sometimes they do what we call "crank it up"and you have sudden burst of the starwars theme song as lound as a theatre surround sound at the max setting.

galactic conquest is strange because you only get rifle troops through the entire thing.

well that's all, thanks for reading!!

Rule the Galaxy!

I think Star Wars Battlefront II is awesome. You can play on the usual planets like Hoth and Endor, but this game has new planets to fight on from Revenge of the Sith! Suck as Mygeeto, Felucia, Courascant etc. Also you can play as the Jedi! For the light side, there is Mace Windu, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Ki-Adi Mundi, Aalya Secura, Obi-wan, and then you can play as Minor heroes such as Han Solo, Princess Leia, and others. For the Dark side you have Darth Maul, Vader, Sidious, Dooku, Jango and Boba Fett. You can also play in space! For example, you can play as the clones and pilot an Arc 170 Starfighter, Jedi starfighter, And a V-Wing fighter. the Really cool thing is that you can play
Capture the flag Star Wars version! But the voices saying THE EMPIRE NOW HAS THE FLAG get annoying because everyone kills each other and gets the flag. This game is rated T, but not bloody. Really I think this game should be 8 and up.

I've had this game since it first came out and I am still not sick of it. I think anyone that enjoys the Halo multiplayer would enjoy this game. Lucasarts improved just about everything you can think of from the first Battlefront. The story mode and galactic conquest (strategy mode) are excellent additions to the basic Battlefront where you simply take over bases and kill the enemy (but thank goodness they still kept that in this game). I do miss some of the old scenarios, but a lot of the new scenarios are really good and the new controls make Battlefront II totally worth playing. I love the improved controls, new characters, and the new space battles. The ability to sprint is an ingenious addition. In most games you can walk, or run. In this game the characters have the ability to run very fast by sprinting. They can also kneel, lay, dive, and roll. I hope all future action games adopt this. I do wish the characters had the ability to punch someone, after all they can do just about everything else. The ability to change your character at bases you control is a nice addition. Engineers with the ability to repair things or take over occupied enemy vehicles is great. There is a nice array of weapons and the ability to play as specialized characters such as Darth Vader or Boba Fett is awesome. The space battles are really fun, except when you board the enemy ship there is only limited areas that you have access to. The graphics are great in HD.

Pros:
Controls
ability to sprint
change characters at bases
engineers that repair things and steal enemy vehicles
graphics
multiple scenarios
a lot of characters
play as specialty characters (jedi)
space battles
multiple playing options (strategy mode, story mode, and basic Battlefront mode)

Cons:
characters don't have the ability to punch someone
boarding an enemy ship in a space battle has very limited access to the enemy ship
Some of the fun scenarios from the first Battlefront are not in this one

The option of flying multiple ships, playing multiple characters, using turrets in both space battles and regular battles, and all of the multiple things your characters can do make this game worth playing.

Great sequel to BF1, but not without problems.

Battle Front is one of my favorite games of all time. When I first picked it up and put it in my ps2 I loved it. It had smoothe gameplay, clear colorful graphics, non glitched up split screen, awsome weapons units and veichles, as well plently of exciting battlefields. So what happens when I put Battle Front 2 in my ps2 expecting an improved yet same experiance? Well lets compare both titles....

BF1
GOOD
smooth gameplay
pretty graphics
2 battlefields per planet
great units, weapons, and veichles
working squad commands
air battles on land
BAD
lame campaign
boring galactic conquest
no space battles
pathetic AI

BF2
GOOD
jedis
space battles
episode 3 planets
starfighter maneuvers
awsome new charecter classes
good campaign
good galactic conquest
improved AI
hunt and ctf modes.
BAD
chunky gameplay
chunky glitched up splitscreen
not as good graphics
no land air battles, with exception of Hoth
random glitches
missing some important battles
some crappy campaign stories
hardly any working squad commands
no information on your starting cp

There is some other tidbits I missed out on, but nothing important.
Overall BF2 is worth the 20 bucks, but pick up the first one, since it is stll far more addictive and includes some stuff BF2 didn't.

Star Wars fan or not, you'll love this game.

Alright here's the deal: been a Star Wars fan for awhile, play a lot of video games, but never really played a Star Wars console game before. I've read the reviews and heard about how cheesy the other Star Wars games before this one have been. A friend suggested I get the game, so I got it and now I play it whenever I can. It's that awesome!! You can be a grunt stormtrooper doing the dirty work and blasting droids, then jump in a tank and blow some more [...] up. Or fly your starfighter around, shoot some bad guys, land in their cruiser, and destroy everything inside it. Then there's the whole "be a legendary Star Wars character" option which I like too. I suggest playing every level where you can use Darth Maul. He's the MAN!!! Can't say enough about this game. Go out and get it get it get it!!!

I LOVED this game.

I thought that the second BF was much better than the first. They were both great games, but this one surpassed the other with the ability to fight in space and the ability to play as a hero/villian. I also loved that you had many more options and abilities with single player i.e. Campain and Galatic Conquest. Also the fighting abilities were also much better. The fact that you can also play different modes of game play is also great. And were do I start with the multi-player.

All in all, a great and fun game.

I highly recommend this game to any Star Wars fan.

Enough gameplay tweaks and additions to please fans of the original

THE SHORT: The structure of the gameplay is the same as it was in the original game, which means this one's still fantastic for pick-up-and-play as well as long sessions of war. The main feel of the game has hardly changed, which is good, but there are some new optional enhancements that some like me appreciate, while others think there should have been a much bigger change.

THE LONG: In some reviews (like EGM), this game was given an apparently lower score than it could have had because it hadn't changed enough or improved enough from the original. The word Halo was then instantly dropped half a dozen times in comparison which isn't fair at all. The bottom line is this: If you liked the original, you'll like this one because it plays the same and is like getting a whole new roster of maps to conquer.

The game does add a few new things though- playable "Hero" characters as well as Space Battles, and reaction ranged from liking the new options to others thinking they should have been better.

Here's the deal: Battlefront 2, just like the original, is still all about you taking control of one of the Rebels, Empire, Clones or CIS (droids) as you spawn and keep respawning until you've either defeated the other army or lose all your own. It's all about action, with even more selectable troops than before, each with their own unique weapons and skills. The joy of the first game remains: Play as a grunt and fire your blaster rifle down hallways, from behind obstacles, and while storming command posts, or be a sniper and camp or take control of one of the many vehicles and just destroy. It feels and looks almost identical to the original game, but with a dozen new maps, many of them fantastic. You can now also greatly increase or reduce the number of troops per stage, so battles can be about as long or short as you want.

New to the game are almost every important 2 legged character from all 6 of the films. You'll find everyone from Anakin to Luke to Grievous to Darth Maul, and the only ones that seem to be missing are (sadly) Qui-Gon Jinn and Lando Calrissian, possibly because they just didn't have 2 more villians to stick in to keep balance.

These characters, "Heros" as the game calls them, are great fun. I recall asking if you could play as these guys (and gals) in the original game, and was met by angry fanboy complaints of "It's all about the infantry, these characters would RUIN the game! No Jedis, that would be LAME!" Yet, as I visit Xbox Live, it seems these are the only characters people ever want to use. Funny.

I can't entirely blame them though, these characters are handled quite well. Far from being invincible, they're just stronger, faster, and have the Force with which to do things like throw their Sabers and Force-Choke from afar. And in an expert move, the programmers made you, the player, entirely in control. Set up the options to have the characters in every battle, all the time, set them up to appear only when certain time or scores are reached, or just turn them off altogether. You can go through this game using almost nothing but the Heroes or never using them at all. It's up to you. My only complaint about this addition is that continuity-breaking is NOT up to the player. Every stage has 4 specific Heroes to pick from (2 for each side, 2 for each era) and they're correct to Star Wars history. You won't be able to, say, put Luke against Han Solo on Geonosis for example. As to why that is I don't know, I mean it makes story sense but who cares if I mess up the story all alone in my living room. I want to play how I want, and this lack of complete control over the game is the only thing that bugs me. Still, there's always at least one character per stage that's fun to use. Besides, there's a stage (quite a few stages if you download the Xbox Live bonus content) where you have an all-out war with nothing BUT every Hero character, which is a rumble of fun in itself.

Using them is a varied opinion of fans as well. The controls feel a little sloppy when using Heroes- they move faster, jump higher, and have powers that aren't entirely balanced. True to the characters, you'll see Yoda jumping 30 feet in the air and then tearing through five soldiers at once with his green Lightsaber. It's all fun, but some have complained that it's too "crazy" to use these characters. I don't think it's too bad, but it does come across as awkward sometimes- it just feels a little less natural when using the Heroes, though I still insist that it's quite fun.

The other hanging point is the addition of space battles in this game. I've never really understood why people didn't like it, just that a lot didn't- without really saying why. Don't expect the level of depth of an actual Star Wars space game, of course, but I still think it's handled quite well. Each faction gets the proper choice of ships, which respawn just like you do. It's all about coming out of your hangar, jumping in a ship, and going after the enemy. Chase after their dogfighters or shoot out the life support systems on the major warships, or even land on their deck and try to disable their shield. You have complete freedom of movement, with no restriction of gravity, direction or perspective, and it's a little disorienting at first. Personally I find it fun, but if I had one complaint it'd be that I was led to believe that when you land on an opponent's ship, you could run around deep inside it, like a regular ground level of the game. You can't- each mothership only goes a few small rooms back from the deck, leading to the shield generator, there really isn't anything to explore.

SO that's the bulk of the new stuff, but there are two very important changes to the original game still left: the single player campaign and the improved Galaxy Conquest. In the single player, you take control of a Clone general starting early in his career, the battle of Geonosis. Through mission-based objectives, you'll fight through a dozen stages playing the course of the Clone Trooper's life. We who have seen where the Clone Troopers started and where they all wind up, will enjoy playing through the life of one of these guys and experiencing a fun (if a little shorter than deserved) trip through the chronology of all 6 films. It's a welcome addition in that it finally gives something with specific goals and experience to someone who wishes to play the game without others.

The Galaxy Conquest is improved in that your goal is still like a board game- look at your map, seeing all the planets, with the goal to eventually to conquer them all for your side. This time you amass points for each victory and use it to buy special bonuses such as more troops or a Hero character, as well as space fleets (since you now also fight in space in Galaxy Conquest). It's much more fun than before, less linear and a bit more difficult. And with space fleets, Hero characters, and half a dozen different timelines (and matching planet layouts) there's a lot more variation to the mode this time. It's fun, and takes as much as 2-6 hours to go through just one of these, which of course you can do whenever you want. Fun stuff.

Lastly I'll mention the Xbox Live content: It's actually fantastic. If you can sign up for Xbox Live, it's worth doing so for this game because not only does it add two new Hero characters (Asajj Ventress and an overpowered Kit Fisto) but also half a dozen of the best maps from the first game including Cloud City and both Rhen Var maps, all of which now allow the Hero rumble mentioned earlier. And once downloaded, you can log off and enjoy the new goodies on your own without having to ever connect again. It's a great addition that should have been included to begin with.

SO there you have it. Whereas the first game was just a great, easy to get into addictive shooter, this time it's the same but with even more stuff, all of which is your choice to use or not. Add to that a decent sized single-player game and improved Galaxy Conquest, and you have a game that's fairly improved over the first. If you liked the original, I can't imagine this one would be disappointing. Just don't be like those goons who want it to be just like that OTHER famous shooter- it's not supposed to be. Instead just sit back and, well, I'll use the cliche- let the Force be with you. Have fun.

More fun than Star Wars Battlefront

This game packs all the things you like about Battlefront and more. It has 8 more levels than Battlefront and great space battles, but the space battles are a little hard. You should rent it first because it may be hard for beginners, unless you have played the first one before. Fighting as Jedi, control how many reenforcements you have, fighting on new battle grounds, it's great! And if you want movies in this game, play Rise of the Empire. Hope you have fun!
