Not Fair Rating When Combined.

This gets real confusing, given that "Beyond Atlantis" is also known as "Atlantis 2" and "Beyond Atlantis 2" is also known as "Atlantis 3". Having played both, here goes.

Beyond Atlantis (a/k/aO) Beyond Atantis, is an extraordinary game! Worth every penny. The locations are unique, puzzles are consistent w/ the locations, the characters you get to care about, and the puzzles are (being redundant) likewise. It's an older game, so there IS disk switching. Also, when I seriously upgraded my video card, I did need to dumb down my display so thing wouldn't twich out. After you get into the game, though, you can change back to better definition. Having said that, fact that I still keep playing the game says something. One thing to have a cheap thrill for $20+ and figure you'd lost your gamble, another to pay the same and keep on wanting to go back. Beyond Atlantis - for the most part is the latter. Well worth the price.

Now I see that BA 1 and 2 are offered as a package. I've played both. Would that I'd waited but I'm an adventure gamer/graphics freak. BA 2 (or Atlantis 3 whatever) is definitely a cynical attempt to ride the success of its predicessor. Still not a waste of money, given the deal offered here, so I would recommend going for it. Both are still great fun, and a lot cheaper than therapy.

I'd rate BA 2 5 stars in both categories, but here they're combined. Besides, some thought should be given to "I've gotten this far, so...?" Nevertheless, the trip was a hoot, if unevenly so, given both games.

Go ahead and buy the combo! worth the ride at this price.

Beautiful but disappointing

I must agree with the previous reviewer that it is not fair to rate these together. The first half of the set is truly lovely, and while there were some puzzles that were iffy, most everything made sense. And the music was fabulous. (Although what you may have heard about the first one making you nauseous was true for me, I just took a lot of breaks and was fine.)

But the second game definitely drags the set down. Some of it was pretty, but it is not nearly as interesting as the first game. And there were way, WAY too many linear puzzles, as in "I'm stuck in a room and have to find the one thing I need to use to get out, which leads me to another room, where I have to find one thing..."

I don't personally plan on playing either of them again, but since I got them for a good price, I suppose they were worth it for a few days entertainment.

Disappointed overall

The date given on the game box is 2004, but these games were obviously created long before, then repackaged, and it shows. Actually the puzzles are inventive, and the scenery is at times beautiful, but the 5-10 second hesitations between clicks is maddening, and I never even came close to "losing myself" in this world. The characters behaved artifically, sounded articial, and the scenery, though beautiful, again, artificial (dayglo and garish). Why were there no Myans in the Myan city preparing for war? It was two pyramids and empty. This may have been a great game for the Commodore 64 back in the 1980's, but to me it was just annoying, and the constant flow of New Age music didn't help.
