That's it...?

I loved Zoo Tycoon (and all the expansions) - so when Zoo Tycoon 2 came out, I bought it right away. There are three ways you can play ZT2 - one is in campaign mode, where the player is given certain objectives to meet and once met, that game is won. The second is in challenge mode, where the player chooses a map and how much money he/she wants and then just builds a zoo; along the way players are given challenges and if successful, they get incentives (mostly cash). In challenge mode, there is no "winning" - you can play on and on indefinitely. Finally, there is free-form mode where the player picks a map & how much cash to start with and then just builds a zoo; there are no challenges or objectives.

I like playing in campaign mode the best. I like completing objectives and I like to complete one game and move to the next...

The first expansion to ZT2, "Endangered Species", added a lot of new content to the game, including nine new scenarios (campaigns), zoo "tours" (including Jeeps & a sky tram), new objects and new animals. Many of the new campaigns were challenging and I had start over a couple times before beating them. They were a lot of fun.

This expansion... well... it added only three new scenarios and they were very, very easy. In fact, I completed all three in only a few hours of gameplay. "African Adventure" basically only adds new animals and new desert-themed objects, and even those aren't really "new" - they're just existing objects (like a drink stand) that now have the desert-"look" to them.

All in all, the game is still fun, but this expansion is a let-down. Only three new campaigns that will only take you a few hours to beat, a handful of new animals, and the desert-themed buildings & objects. If you enjoy playing in challenge mode or free-form mode, you should get some enjoyment out of the new aniamls. Personally, I was really hoping for more...

African Adventure: Is It Worth The Money?

Though I always enjoy Zoo Tycoon 2, African Adventure is often more expensive than its worth. Its Expansion Pack Companion, Endangered Species, is of much better value.
African Adventure adds these animals: Aardvark, African Buffalo, African Spurred Tortoise, Barbary Ape, Bong, Caracal, Ethiopian Wolf, Gelada, Gerenuk(very cute!), Mandrill, Masai Giraffe, Meerkat, Nile Moniter, Pygmy Hippo, Ratel,Secretary Bird, Striped Hyena, Warthog, White Rhino, and the Wildebeest.
There are a few other features, including 'new' themes, campaigns, challenges, and Maps.
Though I enjoyed this game, I would definitly recommend Endangered Species vs. African Adventure

its pretty fun...

I like Zoo Tycoon and all ,but the thing is I can't play it for more than an hour because it gets boring after a while. You just watch the animals "exist" ,but dont take that in a bad way... it's still really fun. I mean you can really bond to your animals and you probably would want to see if they breed, grow up or if they pass away. It's interesting. I have all three expansions and I love this one the best because of the meerkats. They're so cute! O-kay, well, I can't think of anything else to say, so I'm leaving. Bye!

Good game for animal lovers!!

I would recomend this game for kids in fourth grade or up and I only am saying this because there is mating were you see the male and female lay down close to each other and then it tells you that they are mating and the female then becomes pregnant. If you don't mind explaining to kids about what is going on than the game could be for any age. But it has amazing graphics and you get to see mom dad and siblings grow up. There are tough tasks that you need to perform in order to get themed items or breeding center. But you can also play in the freeform mode. This means you have unlimited money and you have every kind of animal and all food/drink/entertainment for your guests. It is a lot easier to obtain a 5 star zoo when you play in this mode. All in all a great game for animal lovers!!!!

Like the game, the expansion isn't that great

My 8 year old really loved the original zoo tycoon as well as the expansions. So when Zoo Tycoon 2 came out I was the first to buy it. The game was a big improvement, and he loved it even more. But the one thing he and I both noticed was the lack of certain basic zoo animals. I realized that the maker of the game might have purposely kept things skimpy so that they could cash in on expansion packs. I didn't mind the first expansion because it did add a lot of content to the game, this pack doesn't really give you a whole lot for your money. Now I am waiting for the inevitable dinosaur and water expansion packs. Hopefully they will give a little more for my dollar than this one did.

This is no expansion pack!

I'm about to list all you get in this "Expansion" pack:

1. Repainted Jeep.
2. Several repainted animals listed as "new" animals.

And that's ALL. Did fans make this?? The information on the animals is all wrong too! The ethiopian wolf's biome is listed as alpine! (Not to mention it is merely a recolored gray wolf!) The hyena is not even related to canines and even it is simply a recolored wolf! This is a shameful joke! Have all video game companies sunk to this level?

African Adventure Add-On to MS Zoo Tycoon 2

This second add-on to Zoo Tycoon 2 includes new animals and new habitats that increase the versatility of the game. My 11 year old daughter and her friends love the ability to design and manage their own zoos. Non-violent and educational.

This game is fun for the whole family. We had a blast exploring the new terrain and animals, and it is a good step up from the original.
We can't wait for the Endangered Species expansion to arrive, because we know it will be very fun also!

I recommend this for any child, or teen, or even adult who loves animals and had a great time playing ZT2! It was worth the store price for this game, without a doubt.

A necessary addition

I waited a long time for the price on this item to go down. It is not worth as much as it started out. All it has is 20 new animals and it also has a FEW new objects--not even any new foliage. Includes new jeeps and buildings and some of the same stuff as Endangered Species Expansion. When I got it I was satisfied with it. Most of the animals are very different from previous animals and have improved in looks (compare white rhino to black rhino). The variety is good. What I like best about this expansion is that it has allowed me to be able to choose from a wider variety of animals. Buy it if you want more animals; but don't expect too much more.
