This game has got to be the most boring game I have ever played. It gets tough, and all you do is hide in the shadows and wait for the enemy to pass. The AI is very well done and very smart. The graphics and sound are very good as well. Thats why I gave it two stars. But the game play is just boring. This would be a great game if you did other things then just hide in the shadows. I know your a thief and everything but if all you do is hide, the game gets dull very fast.

Best Driver yet

I cant even compare this with the first one. Great physics, Great grahpics, Great sound, Great Varity of thing to blow up, shoot, crash, dent up and break. The sound track is great too. If you want a cool game get this one. Plus you can make cool replays somehow.

Eh.

I bought this game hoping it was something along the lines of the GTA series. It isn't really. It is very linear, which might be somewhat forgiveable, but its also very hard. In GTA, if you failed a difficult mission, you could just move on (unless you attracted a big police presence). Fail here, you start over from the beginning of the mission. I suspect the game might be a bit easier if the controls weren't so bad. I've tried modifing them to be more like GTA controls but it just can't quite be made to work.

Not as good as GTA but still alot of fun

When Driver 3 first came out for the Xbox a while ago, I got it and beat it very quickly. While I was able to have fun with the take a ride mode, the main story just wasn't that great. Anyways, I sold it and got a decent amount for it and I was looking forward to the supposedly improved pc version coming out. To make a long story short, numerous delays pushed back the pc release and when it finally did come out there were lots of complaints about it actually being worse than the console versions.

Seeing this for sale the other day, I decided to just give it a try and I'm glad I did. The game runs really well and the graphics are pretty good too. The game is definitely not as good as GTA: San Andreas or even any of the other 3-D GTA games but its still a blast to play on the free ride mode. No improvements were made over the console versions besides an exclusive story mission, which quite frankly, I could care less about considering the story mode is still really mediocre. Another problem I had and I read about others having too was the controls. I decided to use my usb gamepad which works great with the GTA games and it works well with Driver 3 except that when turning using the right analog stick, the character moves really slowly. Makes it a bit hard to aim for a head shot when he moves and aims so slowly. Still, if your looking for an inexpensive, fun game to play in a free roam environment throughout 3 beautifully recreated cities(I've been to Miami, Nice, and Instanbul and the developers did a great job mapping out the cities very closely to the real things), and you don't care much about the single player story, then you will surely have a good time.

Good game!!!!!!!!!!

This game will provide hours of fun!!!!!!! After wining the game there is a freestyle mode called "take a ride", you can steal people's cars, shoot them up, crash the cars, kill COPS and more!!!!!!! You can choose from 3 different cities, Miami, Nice, and Istanbul. Istanbul is no fun at all...but the other 2 are great!!!!!!!
I do agree with some of the other reviews, the controls for when your out of the car are really bad!!!!!
But once your inside the car its Great!!!!

P.S. Its so fun racing around the cities tring to get away from the cops, I do that for hours.

far from reality

I've been living in Istanbul for 25 years and I adore it's atmosphere and everything. but in this game you notice extreme differences if you've ever been to Ýstanbul. layouts and buildings are terribly designed, I'm just wondering who came over here to model the terrain and structures, graphics are totally disaster. layout looks like more Arabic or like 3rd world country. for those who want to convince themselves that Istanbul is like baghdad or any other middle eastern city they gotta come over here and take a look for a while. apart from this I already played the software and controls are wreckage!

Must have T&L video card!!

Don't buy this game unless you have a video card that supports transform and lighting. It won't work without it. Even many new video cards do not support this!

Just goes to show.....don't believe everything you read

I was shocked when I read the amount of negative reviews about this game. I thought "No way, it can't be as bad as people make out" So, I decided to get it and just as I thought, I loved it!

Let me do a step-by-step critique of the points people raise when talking negatively about this game.

The Graphics- No, they are not bad, despite what so many people say. The lighting at dusk and dawn in Miami and Nice (haven't tried Istanbul yet) is breathtaking, when the sunlight bounces of the road's surface. The cars look very good. I will admit that there is a certain "unfinished" quality in some respects but overall I think they are superior to GTA: SA's graphics (and yes, I do have SA and yes, it is a better game)

The Controls- Yes, the default controls are very strange. Is there a solution? You bet. Go to Options and change the keyboard configuration to your liking. Problem solved. The sensitivity of the steering is another criticism. This game plays more like a simulator, rather than an arcade, which makes a nice change since it offers something different from GTA.

You need to brake or at least take your foot off the accelerator when going round corners. In reality, if you were to do so without braking, there's a good chance you'll crash and/or spin. I've been playing the game for about 2 hours and i've got totally used to the steering.

The AI- This is something which really is cut and dry, whichever way you look at it. It really is abysmally poor. For example, if you are shooting baddies on a rooftop and hide behind a metal crate, they will simply stand there and wait for you to emerge. They will not take the initiative themselves. As a result, it's very easy to pick them off one by one.

The Cities- The three cities of Miami, Nice and Istanbul are huge and I mean HUGE. All three cities are about 30 sq miles in size. The game is as big as GTA SA. There isn't as much to unlock in terms of hidden areas, weapons, etc but this really doesn't bother me. If I wanted that, I can always play GTA.

The Cutscenes- The cutscenes are superb with very nice voice overs by Michael Madsen, Ving Rhames and other Hollywood stars. I've played the original Driver and Driver 2 and I can safely say that this is the best instalment, both in terms of quality and quantity.

The Missions- The missions vary from retrieving stolen cars, to shooting up bars, to time constraint missions, etc. A nice blend of different things to do. Although I'm only on Mission 7 out of 26, I do not find the game boring at all.

To conclude,I recommend it to those gamers who consider themselves patient and intelligent enough to overcome minor obstacles such as configuring the keyboard and getting used to the steering, without uninstalling it after only playing 5 minutes.

Driv3r's driving side is great, complete with a nice variety of cars, boats, and motercycles. Physics are 4/5, police pursuit is 2/5, and level detail is pretty dam good.

The on-foot side of driv3r sucks, as the fixed camera-to-head 3rd person idea is horrible. GTA's camera is much better. Weapons are okay, but get boring after awhile.

Driv3r is a wannabe game riddled with bugs and glitches, but is addicting and is definately worth playing.

Kinda dissapointed... but hey, whatever.

I walked into the game store, itching for a new game that could entertain me for a while. I picked up Driver 3 because all my friends said it was the shizznit (I forgot that was years ago when it first came out). The manager walking by said it was a cool game and it was only ten bucks (that kinda sold me).

First thoughts of the game where that the default controls are awful. Of course you can just change them in the options menu, but still, what was Atari thinking? Were they actually expecting me to steer a car using the "Z" and "X" keys? The rest are all messed up, it's as if when they were first setting the controls they put a blindfold on and started smashing buttons at random. Could have been avoided easily.

Don't be fooled by the pictures on the box or the images on amazon. The graphics are decent at best. Some things like cars, bikes, and water were all well done. But some of the scenery was real crappy. They could have done a better job with the roads as well.

The gameplay is hard. I have played all the Driver games in the series, and I feel that as the graphics got better, the gameplay got worse. THIS IS THE FIRST GAME THAT I HAVE EVER FLIPPED THE BIRD TO. Pretty frusterating levels, that you will have to restart over and over again. It's funny, at first Driver was strictly a driving game. Then in Driver 2, you could get out of your car and steal others. Now they're strapping you with guns (jump on the GTA band wagon why don't cha). The missions where you are on foot are lame. Tanner doesn't seem too agile. Simple things like jumping or swimming are laughable.

The music on the game's soundtrack is actually not that bad. It's worth looking up some of the artist and adds to the cutscenes. It really makes the game feel like a movie.

The cutscenes are pretty nice to look at, probably the best part of the game sadly. But it's also a lotta fun to jump cars off of make shift ramps and watch them explode into pieces. I guess it's worth a 10 spot if you've played all the recent games and need something to satisfy your craving. But don't say I didn't warn ya.
