More of the same, which is what you wanted.

ES4: Oblivion was an amazing game. The combat system has gotten a lot better than it was in Morrowind, the story is deep and engaging, the side quests are plentiful and the personalities diverse. So once I had played through all of Cyrodiil, I made a new character and did it again. And again. Each time the game was different because of the strengths and weaknesses of each archetype. But eventually the whole game was "Been there, done that, killed it." Shivering Isles (and Knights of the Nine, for that matter) gives additional content, professionally done with voice-overs and quest progressions worthy of inclusion in the original release. It's more of the same great, diverse content, which is what you wanted to begin with. Pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

An exceptional expansion pack

I must be one of the few people who can't get enough of the Oblivion game world. When the Shivering Isles expansion was announced, I was incredible excited. And the wait was well worth it!

Shivering Isles adds a gigantic new game world, with two vastly unique art styles. One half of the island, Mania, is a colorful world full of vibrancy and overindulgence. The other half of the island, Dementia, is a dark and foreboding place, with a depressed color palette.

The quests throughout the island are nearly as diverse, ranging from tasks for the mad god Sheogorath to helping out the island's inhabitants. The main storyline is incredibly engaging, and features a number of twists and turns. I highly recommend this expansion for fans of Oblivion!

As stunning as the original Oblivion game. Incredible new creatures and island to explore. A must have if you liked the first. The best game and expansion in years.

Excellent Graphics but TOO EASY

POSITIVES: Great concept and quite original storyline. Outstanding graphics, controls, character movement and development.

NEGATIVES:

The main negative, in my opinion, is the ease with which one can defeat the foes in this expansion. And, since this is an expansion only, then it stands to reason that the gamer has completed Oblivion and perhaps even Knights of the Nine. If so, then one would be outfitted with some incredibly powerful armor and magic items, which when equipped make the player almost invincible in this additional chapter. Fighting and defeating monsters is way too easy and becomes quite boring.

The game is somewhat linear in scope insofar as one must complete the tasks (yes, "tasks" not "quests")in order to advance the story. Although the exact order of the tasks can be mixed up a bit, one must still do the authors bidding as opposed to roaming the beautiful landscape looking for adventure. Fail to complete the mundane task and you cannot move forward or cannot access the central part of a dungeon. Gone are the days of the brave warrior's quest to slay the fierce dragon in his cave. Now, we've been reduced to collecting plant samples and forks. Oh, joy.

As mentioned, the graphics are the best in the business, but redundant. You see the same rock formations and dungeon features used over and over again. Beware of any game that has a construction set: this means that the graphics will be redundant.

Additionally, the charaters in the Oblivion modules are, without at doubt, the ugliest in the entire gaming community. Every person's face looks like they are dead or on drugs, or both.

Also, Bethesda, if you're going to make millions of dollars off of these games, then next time PLEASE use more than 3 voices for the entire game.

This gave me a SHIVERING experience.

First, I must say that Oblivion is already a killer game, but after a while, I got a little bored with the same thing over and over. Shivering Isles is definitely a change from the ordinary. Finally, something new. I think it's great that there's already an expansion to an already great game, but this far exceeds what I expected. The new weapons, armor, spells, missions, and NPC personalities are far more than I expected. This expansion is definitely worth getting. If not for the new variety, then for keeping Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion alive for a few more years & keeping it as the best RPG that I've ever played.

2nd best expansion I have ever played for a game.

This expansion set is fantastic and adds about another 20-30 hours to a fantastic game. Other than Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne this is truly the best addition to a game that's ever come out.

Not only are the new areas to explore and quest in look fantastic, but the much needed change in the dungeon structures is very nice. Highly recommend. You can't say you've played Elder Scrolls IV until you've played Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, and Shivering Isles.

Overall I spent 158 hours playing this game. Loved it!

Not as engaging as the original story

I found the events in Shivering Isles more of a nuisance than a challenge, especially since I entered it with a 30+ level character. The story line is not terribly engaging, especially after having just saved the entire world of Tamriel for disaster. Now I'm talking to nutty characters who have me chasing after forks.

But that's just the story part. The gameplay is creative and fun, with many novel twists on moving from task to task. Creatures are not terribly varied. The dialogue by NPCs is creative, but basically pretty goofy (they're all crazy, see, so you will click through a lot of "fiddle faddle").

Bottom line: I find myself popping out of Shivering Isles and heading back to Tamriel. I guess I just like the feel of Tamriel over the psychodelic world of Shivering Isles. Even though in many ways SI is much darker, it has a much more cartoon-y feel to it that doesn't hold my attention as much.

Brilliantly Demented (or Manic, Take Your Pick)

First, do you have The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? You'll need it for this expansion.

The installation is easy and the expansion integrates into the overall game with ease. Even if you're well on your way with Oblivion's main quest, the entrance of Shivering Isles into the realm of Tamriel is unobtrusive and natural. A strange door appears on a little island near Bravil. Whether you investigate immediately or later is entirely up to you.

Think of this expansion as a much-deserved vacation into lunacy, a break from saving the "real" world from infernal Daedra.

So what happens? To say anything of the plot would be spoiling the fun. Suffice it to say that you'll dealing with an impetuous god, one of the Daedric princes. Sheogorath has a wicked sense of humor, a personality split right down the middle, and a very elaborate plan (or two) for you. To accomplish the goals that Sheogorath sets before you, you will engage in dungeon crawls, caving expeditions, tragic battles and political conspiracy. And rest assured that the decisions you make will have a marked impact on your future.

From my experience, the lessons learned and the abilities gained from the Shivering Isles quests and adventures can prove incredibly handy toward completing the main Oblivion quests, should you decide to visit Sheogorath's realm before saving Tamriel entirely.

As with Oblivion, the technological demands are remarkably steep, particularly where graphics cards are concerned. If you're a Nvidia enthusiast, you'd best be armed with an 8-series card (Examples: eVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTX 768 MB PCI-Express Graphics Card or eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS 320 MB PCIe Video Card), at the very least. While Oblivion and its expansions can be played on older, less muscular systems, the experience will always be sub-par without the full effect provided by a better graphics card.
