Original art and story, no gameplay changes

If you liked Oblivion, then I'm sure this expansion is great. It has some beautifully weird scenery that is completely different from Oblivion's or any of the other TES games. In addition, the quest are involved, original, and fun

On the other hand, it has the same gameplay issues that made Oblivion a terrible RPG: leveled items/creatures, fast travel, and generic dungeons.

Fact is, this expansion is even easier than Oblivion. If youve already levelled high enough in Oblivion, the whole expansion and most of the items in it are a joke. I dont think I died once. How fun is that? I know I dont like it when I never die in FPS's but for some reason people think its ok in Oblivion.

Excellent Graphics but TOO EASY

POSITIVES: Great concept and quite original storyline. Outstanding graphics, controls, character movement and development.

NEGATIVES:

The main negative, in my opinion, is the ease with which one can defeat the foes in this expansion. And, since this is an expansion only, then it stands to reason that the gamer has completed Oblivion and perhaps even Knights of the Nine. If so, then one would be outfitted with some incredibly powerful armor and magic items, which when equipped make the player almost invincible in this additional chapter. Fighting and defeating monsters is way too easy and becomes quite boring.

The game is somewhat linear in scope insofar as one must complete the tasks (yes, "tasks" not "quests")in order to advance the story. Although the exact order of the tasks can be mixed up a bit, one must still do the authors bidding as opposed to roaming the beautiful landscape looking for adventure. Fail to complete the mundane task and you cannot move forward or cannot access the central part of a dungeon. Gone are the days of the brave warrior's quest to slay the fierce dragon in his cave. Now, we've been reduced to collecting plant samples and forks. Oh, joy.

As mentioned, the graphics are the best in the business, but redundant. You see the same rock formations and dungeon features used over and over again. Beware of any game that has a construction set: this means that the graphics will be redundant.

Additionally, the charaters in the Oblivion modules are, without at doubt, the ugliest in the entire gaming community. Every person's face looks like they are dead or on drugs, or both.

Also, Bethesda, if you're going to make millions of dollars off of these games, then next time PLEASE use more than 3 voices for the entire game.

This add on is OK. Not up to the hype, but still worth getting if you are bored with the original.

A pretty good add on to Oblivion.

When you first start up Oblivion after installing Shivering Isles you get a message that tells you that a strange portal has opened up somewhere.Once you find the portal and enter it you meet a man that fills you in on whats going on and then he lets you in the door to the island. The first thing you notice when you enter the realm is that it's breath takingly beautiful. There is a lush landscape of trees, brush, mushrooms, waterfalls and large hills that seem to go on forever.Even though this game is an expansion pack it is huge in its own right. It can take you a while to travel across the isles and get to Sheogoraths palace. The first thing you notice when you start talking to the people of the Isles is the fact that they are all friggen nuts!Pretty much all the npc's in this game talk to you in riddles and dont make a whole lot of sense. The most crazy of all the people in the Isles is Sheogorath himself,he is the mad God that runs the Isles and he has a bit of a problem(aside from being insane).Creatures have snuck into Sheogoraths realm and he needs your help to get rid of them.Sheogorath is a crack up,he will keep you laughing with his own demented brand of logic. The humor in this expansion pack is dark but not so dark that it offends. The Shivering Isles is a nice add on to Oblivion and is filled with tons of little side quests that will keep you playing for hours on end.If you have done almost everything there is to do in the main Elder scrolls game then you should pick this pack up.

I like the mad looser and the wierd area in this expansion, u start with a very nice scenery and totally new monsters and ppl, everything is very different in this expansion which makes it nice. BUT the game itself is archer based. U get arrows to kill a gate keeper so if ur not good with a bow u will throw them by hand ? untill now i only got archer items and bows and nothing interesting for the shield and sword lovers. Another thing is this game crashed my pc so many times, it ruined my windows and burnt my ram so be very carefull with it. They say the new patches fixed it but i havent installed it since the accident, the game gets boring when u keep starting over so many times.

Not worth the money

As others have said, Oblivion is getting a bit "old" for some of us who have completed most of the quests (163 for me) over the past year or so. Shivering Isles is just what the doctor ordered. Great idea, an interesting and beautiful world, great new characters and many challenges for high level characters (or low level if that's where you're at). Seeing those beautiful Golden Saints (or Aurelans) again takes me back to Morrowind (ES 3). Nostalgia to be sure. New armor (either heavy or light; enchanted or regular) and weapons (all kinds) are available. I found the main quest to be just great. The Shivering Island "world" is relatively small so a horse is not needed (and nobody else has one so there would be balance issues). I only wish there were a few more good and challenging miscellaneous type quests -- especially since there are no factions to join. But I say there's 30 hours here -- at least.

Be prepared to chase Alice down the rabbit hole in this one. You go from the fantasy world of Tamriel to a plane of existence belonging to Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. Madness is the keyword here. Madness as in it will aggravate the heck out of you if you try to do all of the quests, as well as madness in the sense of insanity. Any bipolar persons out there will feel right at home. Don't get me wrong though. This is an official Beth Soft expansion, so of course it's going to be greatly enjoyable as well. "It's aggravating as well as enjoyable? That makes no sense!" Exactly - and that's what is captured by this half up half down world. Get it, play it, then after hours well spent, step back and wait for the `Oh, that's what he meant' moment.

The bugs screwed my whole Oblivion game up...yes even with the beta patches....Overall great graphics and addictive...too bad the programming was less than desired.
