CAME BACK TO FFXI, AGAIN

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 5

FFXI has the most replay value and most fun endgame content from any other MMO. I come from the vantage point of having played 9 MMOs over the past 6 years, and none can compete. The subjob system allows soloing and group opportunities, and you can try out other jobs without have to make other characters. Unlike other MMOs, you aren't locked in to a class, so you don't have to start over building reputation or doing missions or giving all your friends your new ingame name.
Travelling is amazingly simple in the game because of Outpost Warps. You can teleport to dozens of locations in the world, and call your own cocobo to come and pick you up, along with the crystal based teleport spells.
Crafting, like other games, is costly at first but yields great rewards and money towards the end.
Notorius Monsters now drop items that are cannot be sold, which has combatted the RMT issue that FFXI faced in its early years. Instanced NMs still drop the valuable items that can be sold on the auctions, as well as many of the other named mobs in the game.
Also, with SquareEnix releasing expansion packs every year, the games' strongest point of having unique and engaging storylines and frequently refreshed.
Square also offers an FFXI festival that attendees can win prizes for both in irl and ingame.
I have played WoW, Lineage2, Rising Force Online, Matrix Online, Guild Wars, MapleStory, Travian and EQ2, and FFXI is the only game that I have quit and come back to (twice actually). I truly wish I had not deleted my previous characters.
Additional tools that can make your game more fun are the FFXI Atlas (for newbies who need to be pointed in the right direction), [...] (for item, crafting, mission, and quest information), and limitbreakradio.com (for an entertaining radio show on FFXI).
Have fun in Vana'diel!

This game is not for the "casual player", its not for the person who wants to do something easy, like WoW,its complicated, its involving, and its not for the "novice" MMORPG player. Its fun, multidimensional, and extremely exciting, I love it :D

I've played a lot of MMO games, and I do mean a lot. I was surprised to find though, that out of all of them, many of which were free to play, this had one of the worst user interfaces I've ever seen. That coupled with the simple fact that the game is just quite boring, in reality I wasn't expecting a whole lot, I only bought it to round out my Final Fantasy collection, but I wasn't expecting something this bad either. I admit though, that I didn't last long because of how bad it was to me, and so my opinion shouldn't be seen as a remark on perhaps how the game may play later on, so long as you can last. Lets not forget the fact that it has one of the worst minigames in Final Fantasy history as well. Yeehaw.

Not very good at all...

I bought into this, expecting a more cutesy version of EverQuest 2 or World of Warcraft but, unfortunately, the game just blows. The graphics are weird-looking and dated... the controls are REALLY unintuitive... the game itself is complex and slow. Yeah, I just didn't like it at all. Admin-wise, even setting up an account is overly complex and you can't seem to find the information you need. Case in point, I could barely find a way to cancel my account, two weeks into the first free month.

so-so for an MMO

I was sick of waiting for the expansion to WoW and had heard some good things about FFXI. The graphics were descent, but the character control was very ackward. I ended up canceling it before the 30 day trial and went back to playing my old standby of UO while I wait for BC.

Give it some serious playing time before trashing the game

This is an overall good game. It has stuff that is unique to the rest of the MMO's on the market right now. That being how you can change your profession and not leveling from 1 to 70 in two weeks.

Too many people play MMO's for a week and suddenly think they know what the game is all about. That isn't the case with these kind of games. You got to give yourself some serious playing time before you rush into a decision.

I know I hated this game when it first came out to the PS2. I made the mistake of giving up on it then. I gave it a second chance and am kicking myself for not giving this game a chance the first time around.

The only real complaint I got is how long you have to spend to make a good group. Other than that I like how the community seems very mature. Without most of that other nonsense you get from the other MMO's aka hours of end of Bush bashing and the over so annoying admiration for "Chuck Norris".

Fun Game, Awkward Controls.

So you think the game isn't fun because of all the people posting bad about it. Well it isn't its your choice if you buy it or not people here are just here so they can advise you. I want to advise to you that even though this may be a great fun game, you will need a good graphics card to go with it. Some good thinking on how to set up playonline and its complicated account, and some testing time for playing so you get used to the controls. But when you get all settled in it will be worth it. But remember dont spend all day playing it because it isnt fun spend like 2 hours or less once in a while so you can have fun. Dont forget about your life because of a fun game like this.

This game is very fun, trust me (after learning controls .__.)

75 white mage

If you are thinking of begining this game search the web first and find people playing. that way you will not be like the person above that was on a server that did not have enough people on line. I play on Odin and there is always lots of people on. I also hate the fact that you need parties to do so many things on this game. But I have more than one character so on the playstation I use a 75 blackmage on my pc a 75 whitenage and have my own little party. Its easy to play 2 characters at once when you have good controlers. You still need to buy only if you are mature enough t look past the stupid kids on the game that will hurt your feelings or just get on your nerves. You can not completely avoid these children for they will be in big parties and linkshells.
