For hardcore ki ki ki grinding

Only huge Final fantasy fans will like this game. As it has nothing to do with any other FF game. To lv up at a point in the game you must have a party of 6. Which makes the game quite hard. Expect lots of waiting for parties/crying. This a MMORPG so it will naturally steal your soul. This game not recommended.

I had saw some friends of mine playing this one night and got real interested. So I bought my own copy of the set, and got it installed. I've enjoyed this game quite a bit-- I'm used to the play style of World of Warcraft so this was a nice change-- even though it's very different than WoW is, it has its own nice quirks about it. I gave it 4 out of 5 only because some of the game play was a little redundant.

One of my friends started playing this and I thought I would give it a try. This isn't a bad game, there are just some things that were really frustrating about it. I played it for about a month and cancelled it before I was billed the first time because I didn't think I would be playing it much.

I like FF but I haven't played it for a while and am not a really big fan, so if you are a big FF you might like it more than I did.

First of all, this game has a steep learning curve. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you aren't going to jump in and be an expert after a couple days. It doesn't help that the manual is in a pdf file rather than an actual book you can look at while you play. Maybe I missed it but things such as fame really isn't explained that well if at all. I liked it myself in that it was challeneging, but my friend didn't.

The interface is in my opinion made more for a console controller than a computer. That being said, even using a controller the interface is in my opinion pretty hamfisted. I played a warrior and if I wanted to taunt I had to go through 3 menus, and then taunt the npc. You can create a macro to do this for you, but in my opinion you shouldn't have to write macros to do things like that.

I don't like the application you need to go through to get into the game. It is where you register the game and expansions (along with other games made by the publisher), and you can add friends, send messages and stuff like that. If I click on the FFXI icon I wish it would just take me to the login screen instead of having to go through all that every time I want to play. This is kind of nitpicky I guess, but it just got old after a while.

You also need to download addons to do things that should be included in the game. You need to manually sort your loot items all the time because it doesn't autostack, and looting in general is another menu intensive process. You also can't alt-tab out of the game to look stuff up on the net, it will kick you out of the game and give you an error if you try it. Like I said these issues are made better through addons, but I don't think you should have to install addons for essential things like these. I really wish the would rehaul the interface, it looks like it hasn't been touched since the game came out.

OK, those were all the bad things. The things I liked about it was that it is a lot different than the newer MMORPGs out there, which I think it a good thing. It was really fun to be in a group, and most of them turned out to work good together. Ultimately when my friend stopped playing there just wasn't enough there to keep me.

Okay i was reading lots of review of this game and heard alot of false comments and statements that i want to clear up! Ive been playing Final Fantasy XI for about 9 months now, so I may know a lot more then people that play it for 2 months and give up, and write a crapy review about the game. Im in love with this game and its highly addicted, i all ways look forward to coming home to play FFXI. So here it goes.

First of...
~This game does take alot of commitment to play, i usually devote about 2 to 8 hours into the game. If i have 30 minutes to 1 hour to spare i wont even bothering getting on because i wont get anything done, unless im just getting on to screw around like PvP or Farm, but leveling up wise, you have to devote lots of time, this is the ONLY down side of the game.

Second...
~There is LOTS of Mob Grinding and fighting with parties between Lvls 10 to 60ish, but this greatly depends on you job class. Getting to lvl 10 is the worst, very boring and takes me about 3 days of about 3 hours a day, so thats about 10 hours. but its worth it becuase then you get to start fighting in parties! Partying is lots of fun and there is many Do'ss and Dont's, again depending on your job class. It does take a while to form a party, and this also depends on your job class and the time of day. Partying involves lots of strategy and if one person does something wrong, it could cost everyone. Partying is one of my favortie parts of the game, but can get a little boring after a while.

Next...
~You usually dont start doing quests until level 30 unless your 20 getting your chocobo, which does not take 5 to 6 hours!!! It takes an easy 4 hours but all you have to do is feed the chocobo one grass, turn off the game and wait an hour, turn it back on and feed another grass until you do four of them, so its not that bad. And this is the ONLY quest that is a pain, that i have done soo far.

Last
~Now this game isnt for everyone, like i said you must devote a lot of time into the game, but if you can do that, you will be hooked! If you have played runescape(i did for about 2 years until the gay updates recently, then i switched to this game) but it taks millions of exp to get a skill to lvl 99, but in Final Fantasy it is pretty consistent, it takes you exactly 837550 exp to get to lvl 75 from lvl 1, but you also need a sub job to lvl 37 which is about 150,00 exp, so all together is about 990,000 exp, just about 1 million, not that bad compared to a couple million on runescape, so getting to lvl 75 with a sub of 37 is obtainable by the average human being with a life, just may take a little bit, but usually it takes anywhere from 6 months to 12 months to reach that, this greatly depends on the time you play, your job, and a little bit of luck(to get into good parties)

So thats my review from a some what expierenced player, if anything on here is not true, please let me know.

Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2007 as a mature MMO in the field of other great MMOs is a wonderful game. It appears geared to the more-patient crowd with tons of content and depth to the game. Additionally the crowd itself is of the more friendly bunch that I've met. With a nice mix of international players, and game-directed pleasantry, it makes your game time, truly fun.

If you like other Final Fantasy games, a decent group of folks, and an easy pace, you will enjoy this game.

Well...to put it simply, I love this game. Unfortunatly, you need almost 3-4 hours a night to play it to the full extent, which I just didn't have. They combat is fun and the jobs are usually pretty cool (except BLack Mage *shudder*) The only flaw, well, actually three flaws, is that, as said before, it takes forever to move ahead. In the beginning you level easily and parties are optional. After level 18, things start getting rough. You NEED to join a party in order to gain just one level an hour or two. Soon, it takes about 1-2 hours just getting a party, and as soon as you do, there is almost ALWAYS a problem, like finding a healer or reviving your Black Mage >.< Soon, once I hit level 36, I began leveling all my low leveled jobs, just for the fun of it, and the party-lessness of it. The second flaw is that you just feel like one of the crowd, mainly because almost zero character custimization leads to blurring of individuals. Soon, you lose originality in the way that you actually PLAY a job. For ninja, you just start tanking, even if your a Tarutaru like I was. For Summoner, sadly, all you do is heal, like a White Mage, except worse because your skill is halfed. The last flaw is that you need gil. Lots of it. Only the hardcore can seem to make ANY gil. (Gil is the money) Without gil, you can't get parties, and without parties, you just CAN'T level up. Overall, if you are casual, avoid this game. For those more serious try to pick up this game, only if you can spend the time needed.

A decent MMO.

Final Fantasy XI is just as the title says, "a decent MMO." There is nothing spectacular about it. There is no PvP and it is what many call a "grind fest," meaning you just go out and kill PvE enemies for hours. If you like MMO's like that, you will enjoy this game.

I've been a huge Final Fantasy fan since the first one, I've played and beaten each one, and own all of them. I was wary at first of trying an online Final Fantasy, but my fears and doubts have been laid to rest, this is by far the most engrossing game I've played in quiet some time. The music is supperb and the world of Vana'diel is beautiful, my only complaint about the entire game is the character creation is very limited, you cannot create "your own" person in the game because a lot of people have the same appearance. Yet other than that, it's a very fun game. I plan to be playing this for some time to come (at least until I've got a Level 75 Dragoon/55 RedMage).

Bottom line, if you're a Final Fantasy fan, or just a fantasy fan it wouldn't hurt to try this one out, you may just lose yourself in the world of Vana'diel.

I tried a 30 day free trial. Took 30 minutes to load the online client and game. Then 20 minutes to pass through all the registration. Then another 2 hours to load the updates online. Upon reaching the game, the graphics were terrible. I mean, washed out with low resolution circa Playstation One - state of the art for 1999. I never actually bothered to go beyond the clumsy and awkward character creation sequence. The characters look goofy. The scenery is Final Fantasy style, and sort of obtuse. The interface is driven by a combination of mouse click, mouse wheel click, ESC key press, Return key press. Hitting the wrong key results in the mouse cursor moving to the far edges of the screen. The keyboard shortcuts are non-intuitive. The text size is huge and blocky and difficult to read. The introductory NP characters are completely annoying, and it's hard to scroll past their stupid, cutesy commentary. It takes 30 seconds to log out. I couldn't wait. What a mess. It's hard to believe the reviews this game received on the online gaming websites. I have to think that most of the positive reviews are being placed by shills. This game should be laid to rest. It should not be re-repackaged and sold again.
