a good bit of fun; but Sierra still cranks out buggy stuff

The game is a good bit of fun and easily can monopolize the hours of an entire day...until it crashes. If not for this, a solid 4 stars.

Sierra has carried a number of fine titles throughout the corporation's history; however as is their manner, the games will crash on whatever PC system. From IBM's to Monolithics (a moment of silence for the folks who started the RAM revolution with memory sticks), AST's, Lenova's to include ABIT and ASUS builds, their games are not as solid as should be for retail consumption, in my opinion. Disable all virus protection? Perhaps that would help; but the internet environment has become increasingly frought with untoward individuals with the perverse joy of causing harm and injury to innocent souls across the web. Since the vast majority of other software shops produce solid code, I cannot lay this blame on the shoulders of MicroSoft XP Pro.

I bought 3 copies of the game so when the grandkids come up to the ranch, we play across the LAN. Their mother has to near physically drag them from the computers when it's time to head back home. Well, she really did have to drag Darin off, this past weekend.

Suggestions: Anno spoiled me. It's nice when you can just hit an onscreen icon to instantly have your screen display the latest trouble spot, accomplishment, or manufactured ship. Finding military units and civilians is also much easier in Anno 1701 A.D..

Bottom Line: the game is fun and worth a look if you are a fan of Civs and such as I am. The autosave at least permits you to pick up where the occassional hard lock left off. Playing across the web or a local area network opens a new vista of enjoyment. After the kids left, I was faced with a large map full of hostiles which took me all night to mop up.:)

I heartily recommend grandparents with a LAN and some slight interest in gaming to invest a little money into multiple copies of a title. The children cannot wait to visit the ranch now. Of course, we don't get much work out of the youngsters; but it's my job to spoil them. They will work enough after they have grown up.

Average at best

I bought this game being a fan of RTS games like AOE 1,2,3 Age of Mythology, the C&C series, Rise of Nations, and EE1. While the the options passing through epics are cool, as is alot of other things, the killer for me is two very basic things, the speed in which you can scroll across the map is atrociously slow, finding attacks at the ends of your territory is pretty much "oh, hey, THERE's the attack on me" and the other being if an enemy gets into your own city, you must hand pick out your troops to counter-attack because the drag and drop feature known in ALL RTS selects BOTH citizens and troops. That is just horrible. in a panic you may find yourself sending all your resource gathering villagers in the middle of a fight. complete PAIN. IF you're looking for a good amount of diversity, this may be your game. It's pace and excitement are lackluster.

Empire Earth II is a major improvement over the normal type strategy game.

THe major thing is you are allowed to go into future ages and create robots, awesome tanks, and cool stealth bombers. Also the death of certain units, such as tanks and helicopters, are followed by a huge, cool explosion. In a normal game there is a barely a puff of air after the death of tanks and copters.

Naval Units are much more powerful and can inflict large amounts of damage and land units and buildings. It will destroy a tank in one shot and with multiple ships can destroy a fortress withing 5 shots

I advise you to buy the platnium edition.

Not Bad

Whereas I do miss some of sea battles and the way the aircraft attack, this is overall a good game. I did enjoy seeing the cutscenes and the briefings before "missions" as well as the trading aspect of the game. I do believe I enjoy the first EE game more but this has more of a traditional feel to it in the world of strategy games.

Not a bad RTS game.

You'll get a good 2-3 months( or more) of enjoyment out of this game. The graphics are better than the first Empire Earth. However, I do miss being able to customize your civilization ( with the 100 skill points allocated). It was cool to try out new stratagies with different skill combinations----I was always partial to building upgrades myself.

I am a fan so review is slanted. Platinum edition did include books describing game which are very helpful and give me a chance to learn stragities one at a time. If you like this kind of game I recommend you try it.
