A New Twist

When I heard that Take Two intended to re-market Myth 2 some two years after it's release, I had every reason to be apprehensive. Luckily for me, one of my friends (IronDuke) is on the CD, and was nice enough to give me his second courtesy copy. So, what do you get? Aside from Myth II, the sequal to the classic Myth: The Fallen Lords, you get two CDs jam-packed with new levels (both multi and solo) to play!
Included are two of the biggest and best Myth releases ever, in the form of The Seventh God (an epic fantasy) and Jinn (a gothic sci-fi from VIsta). You also get the awesome 1861 Civil War, which is a blast. Also gathered on the CD are the winning entries from the Solo Contest a few years back. These include Legend of Gorash, Senex Silvae (Individual Winner), CAGES, Havre River and Under Myrkridian Standards (Winner). With the above, and the 24 level solo that is Myth II, you've got countless hours of gaming.
Then there are the other nominated submissions. Classics such as Taliesen Downs, Morte Della Luna and A Very Idiot Christmas combine with new maps such as the Ephor of Myrgard. All in all, you get almost 100 solos to play, as well as the Myth II Hintbook. For your money, you're getting a revolutionary game and plenty of extras for it. It's like Civilisation 2 Gold, but with decent graphics! Well worth a look for newbies, fans or just fans of fantasy RTS in general.

One final venture into the lands of Myth II

Well, I may be biased because I have been playing Myth TFL and Soulblighter for the better part of the last 5 years, but I found this useful mainly for all the large projects stored on the CDs. I am rather lazy in the upgrading the computer depart, and i have a small HD which I couldnt really waste space with conversions i didnt play that much. This offers all the biggest and best covnversions on 3 cds that I found fairly easy to navigate. You get Myth2 also, which is cool. I recieved 2 free copies because some of my work is on it (yippee!). Check out Dreamseedz and Dreamseedz multiplayer for my magical little maps.

IF you are new to Myth, this is a wonderful deal, because it is cheap and comes with all the most popular projects right at your fingertips. By today's standards (2002) the graphics are rather dated, but it is still an incredibly addicting and entertaining game.

Another helping of a great series...

"Myth: The Fallen Lords" was a true classic, and "Myth II: Soulblighter" was a worthy sequel. "Myth II: Worlds" offers Myth fans a way to continue enjoying a great game by gathering maps, mods, and conversions along with the original "Myth II: Soulblighter" scenario. The Myth engine still holds up well, so the games look good and play great.

Granted, part of the material in "Myth II: Worlds" has been freely available for download in the past, but it's getting harder and harder to find. Most of the maps and conversions are professional quality, so I don't object to paying for them. But the price is a bit steep if you have "Myth II: Soulblighter" already.

If you haven't tried the Myth series yet, you really should try "Myth: The Fallen Lords" first. It's a fantastic gaming experience!

Myth II Worlds: a solid game

While the graphics are dated by today's standards, Myth II continues to be an enjoyable, addictive game. To restate what has been mentioned in pretty much every review of the game, the 3D environment in the game world has a significant impact on the outcome of every battle. Players succeed only by placing and constantly adjusting the placement of troops, and by sending in attacks at key moments and at key strategic points in the enemy's defenses. In other words, this is a true squad-based tactical strategy game - there is no resource gathering, and no micromanagement of city economies.

The Worlds package contains the Myth II Soulblighter game, as well as two discs loaded with the best mods and player-produced games. The fact that so many independent people made such a concerted effort to put together these extra games on the Myth engine is a testimony to the game's success and replayability. The game does not run smoothly on computers running Windows XP and above; however, the Myth community has created several patches that allow users with newer computers to play the game in all its intended glory. Do not be put off by the dated graphics. This game is a definite keeper.

One of the Best Games.. Evar!!

Myth2 is about 7 years old, but it's playability is unsurpassed by any other video game that I know. That there is a **current** community of players and map makers is strong testament to this. Check out Mariusnet . com for their forum, FAQs, links to patches (up to 1.6 now), links to other Myth-related websites and map repositories (which, after all this time, are huge).

The single-player game is worthy, in and of itself, but its multiplayer aspect is truly what makes it special. Online, you can play "versus" (where you blow up your friends and enemies) or "co-op" (where you team up to beat all that the map-makers throw at you). At Mariusnet, you can choose either. Pick a game or host your own. Go it alone, or join a "clan". It's all good.

I only play Myth2 ("Soulblighter"), so this boxed version ("Worlds") is perfect for me (If you also want the original "Myth: The Fallen Lord", get "The Total Codex"). This box includes some of the most amazing "total conversions" (maps, interface, units, physics, etc., so the game plays like a completely different game!) such as WWII & Jinn (some group even made a TFL conversion which you can play with either TFL or SB physics), so you don't have to download many hundreds of megabytes of plugs. I pretty much stick to the classic Myth2 and its related plug-ins, but I've tried these plugs, and they are absolutely gorgeous.. Never ceases to amaze me, how people have time to create these whole worlds, then test them so they are realistic and are play-balanced.

If you're tired of the same (re-tread), 1st-person-shooter/twitch-fest, give this game a try.
