The King of Dreamcast Racers

I bought the first game, Tokyo Extreme Racer, not knowing what to think. It was awesome. Now the second comes out.

The problem from the first game, slowdown, is pretty much eliminated. The track is expanded to be over a hundred miles long. Added cars and cheaper versions of cars make this have over 100 cars, I think. The BMW M3, Viper GTS, and two Porches have been added. Its nice to have european cars.

The graphics have been updated in the second version. There are still some problems with the modeling of the cars. For example, the Supra RZ has a distinct lines across the top of the cab. Crave made it so you can make your own licence plate.

The one major flaw in this game is that they deleted the multiplayer function. Now you only can racer against the other computers.

You especially love this game if you liked to add racing modifications to your car in Gran Torismo. But it is a original idea and you should check it out.

This Game is PHATT!

I recently bought the game Tokyo Extreme Racer 2. I heard about the first game from my brother and was about to buy it when I heard that the sequel was being released soon. I opted to hold out on buying the 1st one and waited until the sequel was released. I am glad that I did! This game is great! You can pick from all kinds of the phattest imports that any racer would love to own. Pick your own car or your dream car either way, you'll have a lot of fun. Start by picking which body kit and spoiler you want, add a muffler, springs and stickers and your off to hit the streets and race with the best. You'll challenge over 370 different street racers during the game and as you advance through the game more and more options will be available for your car. New bodykits, new spoilers, new exhaust systems, new engine upgrades, the list goes on and on. If you are a true street racer and love imports you will love TXR2.

Quite possibly the best racing sim for dreamcast yet!

Spectacular! This game has everything! Stunning graphics, over 300 cars, big challenges, hundreds of oponents, either belonging to a gang or on thier own with idividual personalities, The ability to costom paint and tune up your car, making millions of combinations possible, unlimited gameplay with all new, unexpected challenges,.............. I'd go on, but i have to keep this review under 1,000 words. Some may say that the controll is too tight and unrealistic, but that only lasts for the 'crammy' cars you start out with, and still, it adds a nice challenge to the game. Did i mention the challenge? I've had it for over a year now and i still haven't beaten it. And let it be known that this is no arcade game like Speed Devils, this is a challenging, stratiegic racing sim. This game has great music and graphics that you wouldn't think were possible. And then there's the sticker maker. You can draw your own sticker and put it on your car! Right now i have a Prelude, A Porsche and a Viper in my garage. (You won't find those kind of cars in Metropolis Street Racing) So if your looking for a new racing sim, ditch Metropolis Street Racing and say goodbye to Test Drive 6 and buy Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2

This game seems, at a first glance, like the ultimate DC racer. You drive around on freeways in Tokyo, challenging or getting challenged by other drivers. By winning other racers, you'll get money, which you can use to buy other cars, or beef up your current dog. Unfortunately, after having boosted my Honda Prelude to 333 hp and numerous wings, I still can't compete with the big guys.

If you bounce into the rails on the side, you lose 30 mph right away, but your opponent doesn't lose anything at all. The artificial intelligence in the game stutters, because if you follow someone that drives fast, he can pull off the most stunning curve balls through bends at speeds 20-30 mph faster than you, w/o losing speed, irritating.

This makes the game pretty montonous, since the only way to actually win over anyone, is to get a good head start and block the other driver's attempt to pass you.

Unlike Metropolis Street Racer, it's hard to slide into bends. The maps/levels don't change much and after playing 10-12 hours, beating 100 drivers, I still can't buy a better car, since I haven't made that money.

Avoid this game and buy Metropolis Street Racer.

This game is real. I cant belive the graphics on this game. It's better than Gran Turismo 3 on the playstation 2 and Project Gotham racing on the Xbox. There is a big selection of cars like the Toyota Celica, Honda S2000,Mitsubishi eclipse and lots more and the cars are easy to steer. If you want a sweet racing game this is it.

Before Gran Tursimo came out on Playstation, the only racing game worth playing was the Tokyo Highway Battle. It was all in japanese but the racing dynamics and the whole Japanese atmosphere was really there. Of course there are other good racing games like ridge racer and rage racer but nothing captures the spirit and mood of realistic japanese cars like Tokyo Highway Battle. Apparently Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 is by the same company Genki. And now in 128 bit and 5 versions later (Tokyo Highway Battle, Tokyo highway battle R, "Tobukki" Tune, Tokyo Xtreme Racer), of cuz the whole game is very much improved! If you like street Racing and japanese cars, this would be the game. MSR is nice and all but the European flavour is too much for me to take personally.

Though I liked the first one, This is more than enough

I couldn't wait for the sequel after I've played the first one, so I got import version(had to sacrifice on backgrounds of every rival) and I'll have to say that I'm satisfied with this one also. I've enjoyed so much from reading each of beaten rival's background info from the first Tokyo Extreme Racer, but I was willing to sacrifice that since I truly liked the first one. It has improved in lot of areas, especially length of the course, but also lost little bit of magic from the first one.

The very first thing you will notice is the improved graphic. I thought the first one had outstanding graphic, but Genki put more effort into details and overall graphic.
They have added realism into this sequel, which was not present in the first one. This time, your meter bar will be depleted if you make contact with any on-going traffic, rival, or environment, and instant lost if you bump into the wall while at a high speed.
They have quadrupled the length of the course, by adding more of Shutoko High Way to the first existing course. More cars to choose from and more rivals to race against.

However, the level of difficulty has been lowered somehow. Some boss weren't that hard to beat, in fact, some did instant death by bumping into wall, leaving me with easy victory, but bitter taste in my mouth. I make it sound that game has turned into an easy game, but it's not. Its final boss alone was something to talk about since it gave me sweaty palm, and it still offers great challeges.

If I have to sum it up, I would compare this sequel as Metal Gear Solid 2. Of course, Metal Gear Solid 2 was an excellent game with better graphic, music, and etc, but it lacked at its most crucial part, story line. And Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 also lacks the most crucial part of the game, which is the difficulty and racing being done instantly with instant lost. Like I utterly enjoyed very first Metal Gear Solid/Tokyo Extreme Racer over its sequel, still Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 is an excellent game. If you liked the first one, don't miss and I know you wouldn't miss it by all mean if you've played the first one. Enjoy it.
