Not "play thru" in any sense.

They call this the "play thru" case, but it's really not, because the plastic sleeve inside to hold the bottom half of your DS (with the touch screen) is so poorly cut and fitted to the actual DS dimensions that it makes it pretty difficult to play anything. As anyone knows, one of the coolest things about the DS is the stylus and touch screen, but the hole cut out for that in the "play thru" case is about a half an inch off and covers up the top part of the touch screen. Additionally, while there are holes cut out for headphones and the power adapter, the microphone is totally covered up! Forget trying to play Nintendogs with this thing on. This is why I rated it 3 stars overall, because it doesn't perform as advertised.

There is one thing this case does, and it does it well: it's padded quite nicely and makes for some good shock protection when you just want to toss your DS in your bag and go (the reason for my four stars on the 'fun' scale). The zippered compartment holds about 4 (or more if you shove them in there) DS cards and there's a little loop for an extra stylus. On this count, the case works well, and is worth the $9.99 being charged. If you can manage to get over the fact that it's not really "play thru"...
