Best for diehard RE fans only

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 0 / 0

So by now, everyone should know that this is a rail shooter, making it far less involved than other RE games. Rail shooters can still be fun, but this one just isn't. When you shoot a bad guy in the right spot in RE 4, they explode into a gory burst. When you shoot zombies in UC, they[...] their head to the side. Seriously... that's all that really happens and it's not nearly as entertaining. Most zombies and creatures take far too many shots to kill, and I've found the aim to be rather inaccurate at times, which never happened on RE 4. There is a one-shot sweet spot somewhere on the zombies foreheads, but it must be a single pixel because you're only gonna hit it when luck is on your side. Personally, I don't like when my most successful shots are due to luck. The graphics are great, and there's tons of nostalgia for long time fans of the series; unfortunately, that's all this game has going for it. The music and most of the sound does very little for me. Rebecca sounds like a small child and it's absolutely absurd. If something more happened when you shoot zombies and creatures, I'd give this game a much higher rating. Instead, the "violence" is unforgivably tame. It quickly becomes overly repetitive, and your efforts are never well rewarded. Some things must be shot innumerable times, which gets really boring since the bullets don't have much of a visible effect on what you shoot. Your selection of weapons is pretty limited each round (regardless of how many you've unlocked), and none of the weapons are really that cool anyway. Fans of RE 4 looking for their next fix aren't going to find it yet, especially not here. This game barely even wanders out of the kiddy pool at times. It's shallow and seems to be heavily toned down so Nintendo wont have to deal with public relation issues. Things like this make me worry that RE 4 will be the only Nintendo game of its caliber.

Great for 2 players

Good for older kids and adults. A lot of gross stuff and blood! Seems hard without 2 players. Also the characters are very whiny for being zombie killers!

Fun Rail Shooter

This is one of the few Resident Evil games I've been interested in playing that expand on the RE universe. I just got my Wii and was looking for something that might show what it could do. I'm an FPS and 3rd person shooter nut and have always enjoyed the RE games (2,3, and 4). So far this hasn't disappointed. The graphics look pretty good (for the Wii) and the game play is satisfying. It's basically House of the Dead on steroids. I don't mind that it's a rail shooter, but the use of the nunchuck is pretty pointless. It's supposed to allow you to look around, but the angle of view it gives you isn't much. That being said, the remote allows for some pretty accurate aiming. It's a fairly easy game, but the fact that you're constantly "rolling" through the levels keeps you on your toes. The zombies look good and the array of weapons are what you'd normally see in a RE game. It's not quite the caliber of RE 4, but if you just want a fun shooter you've come to the right place.

Take Aim and Fire - no more and no less

Umbrella Chronicles was made as an arcade-style "on rails" shooter. You take aim and fire at enemies while the camera and movement automatically guides you through the levels. I am having a fun time with this game.

You will be taken through select events from Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 3 and the events leading up to Resident Evil 4. Unfortunately, RE2 is left out for some reason. But, if you never played those games before you get a nice tour through all those games and get a good dose of the storyline.

Almost all environmental objects can be shot at and destroyed and you actually want to shoot EVERYTHING. Many objects hide ammo, grenades, health restores and hidden files (to read later in the archives). Many levels have multiple paths if you choose to take them. Weapons can be customized to increase their capacity. You are ranked after each chapter and you will want to go back and reply the levels to find everything you missed to increase your ranking.

There is lots of voice over, nice full motion video, great sound effects and of course the creepy music from each of the respective games. The game runs in 16:9 and 480p. Two players can also play through the game cooperatively.

So, here is the deal, as long as you understand this isn't a semi free-roaming game like RE4 was, you will have a fun time. Many people thought this was supposed to be like RE4 and it wasn't supposed to be like that at all.

Fun non-canon RE game

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 0 / 0

Over all this is not a bad addition to the Resident Evil franchise. But myself, and most hardcore RE fans will admit that this game is completely non-canon. (Canon meaning part of the main series and non-canon meaning a cheap spin off that contributes little to the flow of the main series and/or contradicts the continuity of the main games). In other words, throughout much of the game, fans will be muttering to themselves "hey, that's not how it happened in the original..."

That being said, I'll address the pros and cons. I will admit, it is an enjoyable experience, and incredibly addicting. There is something satisfying about popping off a zombie's head in one shot. And I LOVE the theme of the menu screens-- with polaroids, envelopes, and files, the player seems to take on the role of an outside investigator looking into the Resident Evil events. Not to mention being able to customize your arsenal, collect ammo, and pick which gun to come into the level with you is always a plus with me (I'm personally a shotgun man, myself). And the side stories are one of my favorite parts-- getting to see how Wesker escaped the mansion with his life, Richard's last stand against the giant snake, and HUNK's escape are some of the most interesting parts of the story.

However the graphics are not as top-notch as they were in Zero and Remake. The nightmarish atmosphere that existed in the original games seems completely destroyed by the music at times, leaving the viewer to feel as though the game creators destroyed masterpieces in an attempt to make more money. And like I've stated before, most of the events completely contradict the REAL games, going so far as to cut major characters out of the story (IE- Barry Burton, Nicholi, etc). Not to mention that much of the new stuff added to the story feels incredibly lame and over-the-top (even for a Resident Evil game). The side story with Sergei felt like a bad B-movie, and Umbrella's End contributed nothing but a cheesy story to an otherwise great series.

Taken for face value alone, it's a fun, addicting game and a neat experience. But when compared to the rest of the Resident Evil series, this is nothing more than a cheap knock-off trying to capitalize on the franchise that is Resident Evil. Players just looking for a fun game will not be disappointed, but hardcore fans might feel a little cheated.

Give it a chance--it actually gets better as you go along

I'm a fan of the RE franchise with the great RE4 standing as my clear favorite. Got this one as a gift and was really disappointed--it's an on-rail FPS and just wasn't very interesting--aim and shoot, hardly any free movement, etc. Then after a couple of levels the whole thing just really picked up for me. I like the star grading system that allows you open bonus games and obtain and upgrade weapons. Also, I like the idea of the more you destroy the more hidden items you find. It's a long game too and not an especially easy one and it took me a while to best find a way to utilize the light gun. Initially, it was irritating, but once I got comfortable with it, it became really fun. The graphics are not close to PS3 level, but they're generally excellent. Best of all, the game doesn't skimp on zombies--there's lots of 'em! It's a winner.

This is the GREATEST Rail game

This game won't be for everybody, but if you have ever enjoyed a rail game, this is the game you've been waiting for. Personally, I have always loved to take some time away from the harder RPG's and play a rail game (what few there are), but I've always found them to be very short. Well R.E. U.C. has solved that problem. This is an in depth game and somewhat complex game (relative to its being a rail game), with a great storyline that fills in gaps from the prior games.

On a quick glance it may seem simplistic, but to truly beat the game it will take well over 15 hours. Even to just beat the base game (complete the base story line without accomplishing all of the goals or unlocking everything) takes between 6 and 10 hours. A group of four (VERY EXPERIENCED GAMERS) of us (a fifth game over for awhile and hated to leave) have yet to complete the whole game with around 15 hours of game play in. Please note that this is only a two player game, but its fun to switch off teams and experiment a little. We did complete the base game, but it is not very satisfactory since we still have one or two paths to unlock and a TON of things to collect still.

Well good luck and enjoy the sweet hum of this game in your Wii.

This is a good game for anyone who is a Resident Evil fan and wanted to revisit some old and new places from the series in a FPS perspective.
The graphics are good and are right up there with Resident Evil 4.
The control scheme is easy to get used to and the side missions, which reveal some backstory that was not present in other games, are refreshing to have.
The difficulty however, will be a turnoff for some people, as this games gets tough really fast and only the most dedicated players will make it to the end and beat it.
Either that or I just really suck at it!
LOL!
Anyways, I think this game is good but could have been better with the inclusion of levels from Resident Evil 4 but whats there is really good though.
Being able to upgrade your weapons is a major plus.

This game was just a walk through of earlier versions of the game. You have no controll over which way you go nor in what direction you're looking. You can't stop and look around. The Game controls all of that. There is a little play to allow you to look from side to side but not much. If you miss picking up something then you can't go back and get it. There is no exploration of any of the areas.

I like first person shooters and one of the reasons is that I have control over my character and what I do, where I go, etc. I prefer to put distance between myself and enemies as I'm shooting, either backing up or moving to the sides. You can't do that here. In fact you stand in one spot as you're attacked and have to shoot everything coming at you. The game will tell you to dodge by hitting the "A" button or "B" button or shaking the remote. And usually by the time you've registered which way to act the monster has already struck. I could have probably been ok if there was just one way to dodge or even having your choice of how to dodge but you don't have any control over that either.

The game just walks you through areas, you get to shoot at the monsters but I prefer to be able to explore areas, look at the content.

Also, I don't think the cut scenes were necessary. You'd be moving along and suddenly the game would cut to one of the movies and you'd get to watch whats happening and then it would drop you back into the middle of the action.

Visually the game was cool. The detail was great. Even the cut scenes were well done graphically. However, I want more control over my game.
