Is a fun game

Game is a fun first person shooter game. My only complaint is you don't have much control over your view. You can look around a bit with the nunchuck, but there's not a lot of movement in any direction. This would be nice as the computer moves you and sometimes moves you too fast so I miss objects and would like to be able to still pick them up. Other than that it is a fun game and works well with the gun.

Good but different resident evil

This game is really fun with a friend. However, be warned, it is not like other resident evils. This is a SHOOTING game, not a puzzle/action game like the others. It is very much like House of the Dead, but with more depth and goodies. I have played it for over 20 hours, but most of you will not play for that long. The game will likely take about 8-12 hours to beat all the sublevels and main levels. It does have replay value in that you can upgrade guns, somewhat like resident evil 4. Very fun with a friend as well, because you share health and must work together. However, I would not buy it for $50 plus tax. I got mine for $38 brand new. Look for a deal if you want to buy it, or just rent it and you could beat it in a few sittings.

Capcom, you blew it big time.

Coming off of RE4 to this is going to be a shock to anyone who enjoys the RE franchise.

My recommendation: Skip this game. It is beyond pathetic and its sole purpose is to generate revenue for Capcom. I can not believe over 1 million copies of this game were sold, but given how I was duped, I can see why.

People who don't read reviews are going to hate themselves for it later.

This game is on "rails" which means you don't move your character, it moves for you. Expect to see the "You are dead" message so often, you'll think it's a character in the game.

This game has a good concept, but lacks execution. One of the biggest problems is not being able to dodge. This alone is what kills your character as creatures often spit/throw/jump so often and the weapon can't take them all, especially since you MUST reload (or suffer a penalty of "load delay").

I wish I could meet the developers of this game, not only to demand my money back, but to put them on rails out of town to never develop a game again.

For shame, Capcom. For shame.

Just get RE4

If you are a huge Resident Evil fan, like me this game is not worth it. I purchased this game thinking that it was all my RE games but like house of the dead. I was mistaken, I beat this game only for the added story, they left out major scenes from every game. If you are looking for a good game that is completely worth it, Resident Evil 4 is the way to go.

Pros:

- Heaven for lightgun and Resident Evil fans
- Does a good job at tying all the storylines together
- Good boss battles
- Decent unlockable content
- Fun while it lasts

Cons:

- Little replay value
- The wii zapper does not really work well with this game
- Adding RE2 and Code Veronica could have made this a great game

A Good Quick Story

When I was reading these reviews I thought 'wow do people understand the words rail shooter?' The answer to this is NO. Most of the reviews that have been written that are one stars are by people that didn't understand this concept.
For those of you that don't understand what a rail shooter is: this is a game that is like time crisis or house of the dead. You don't move your character you are on a "rail". With this in mind a person can't expect any new breakthroughs in game play. Even on the Wii this game doesn't bring anything breakthrough.
I also found people that said you can't go anywhere and it's the same every time...WRONG. In every level you get to choose one of 2 or 3 ways or paths at some point. So you do get some choice, but this is minimal. I want you to understand that there are some options.
So what does this game have to offer? First RE4 was amazing and on the Wii it was better. Most people were introduced to Resident Evil through RE4. So think of it this way, Capcom wanted to introduce the story for those that haven't play through RE0, 1, and 3, the major story lines. Lets face is RE2 and 3 is really expensive on the GameCube, and not everyone wants to fork over 60 dollars to play those games.
I would suggest Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles to someone that hasn't played any of the RE games before, if you really want to know and don't mind a watered down story. If you don't know what the words "rail shooter" mean, don't.

No where as bad as I heard it was

Although before buying this i heard it was terrible to play single player, i have not seen any truth to this. It is much harder to play single player simply because there are just as many enemies as when you play it co-op. And don't get me wrong, it's fun to play single player mode but 100 times more fun to play with a friend. So don't be afraid, and definitely check this out.

Oh, and the zapper helps SO much more in shooting.

Probably good, but not for me

A lot of people seem to like this game, so this is really just directed at the uninformed (i.e., nongamers like me whose first experience with the Resident Evil franchise was through its other Wii release, Resident Evil 4).

Warning! Resident Evil 4 is nothing like the other games in the series to date, and if you loved playing it, there's no guarantee you'll like this one. I LOVED RE4, but personally hated this one; It felt more like "Zombie Smash 2000" than RE4.

Great Game.... Could use alittle refinement

Keep in mind that this is not a typically resident evil game, it is more like house of the dead. To many complain that it is not like the other resident evil games, but it is not suppose to be this game is an arcade shooter.

Overall rating 7-7.5

Gameplay - 8/10. very innovative. The game moves you around through the levels but you still have the control to pan the screen left, right, up and down to get a better shot or find hidden first aid sprays or guns. Handgun unlimited ammo, find reloads for shotgun and machine gun and other weapons all around. You can blow up things up in the background like windows and lights.

Graphics - 7/10. Definitely does not have as good of graphics as resident evil games usually have, still good but needs some refinement. It is not as realistic when you shoot zombies they still lose their heads but basically no matter where you shoot them they are still stunned the same way.
On the over hand, it pretty realistic how you can shoot out windows, shoot down paintings on the wall, you can break lights and it will get darker.

Story - 7/10. Not as interesting as stories in the past, but still interesting and fun to listen to. It is also pretty cool to relive somethings from old resident evil games.

Replay-ability - 7/10. First off, Each part of the game is broken down into a scene. You can reenter old scenes that you have already played. They rank you for each scene based on hits, critical hits, objects in background broken, time it took to complete. It makes it interesting to go back and replay missions to beat your last score.
Second, this is 2 player game!!!!! Go Coop with a friend through missions, they can also come and go at any point. In other words, you can beat half the game 1 player then a second player can join half way through if they want.
However, this game is lacking in amount of play time, even a casual gamer will probably finish the game in a few days. (around 5 hours gameplay)

Verdict - No doubt that one would enjoy renting this game, but is it enough for a purchase? Probably not worth the full sticker price of $50, would make a great buy if on sale.

Its NOT Resident Evil 4

So I was completely addicted to Resident Evil 4 and then I beat it. I enjoyed every blood gushing minute of it. So I figured I would get Umbrella Chronicles after I finished with RE4. What a disappointment! The controls are tough to use (compared to RE4 anyway) and you can't control where you're moving....the game is controlling you instead. I'm just not a big fan. Since you have limited movement, you have limited opportunities to pick up herbs and ammo. If you walk past it and possibly miss it, you can't turn around to go get it. In my opinion, compared to RE4, this game pretty much sucks. Maybe some gamers like the format but not this one. I can't wait until RE5 comes out.
