An Almost Perfect Addition To The Adventures Of Lara

Tomb Raider and Lara Croft are, and forever will be, the pinnacle of Action/Adventure gaming. Although there are haters out there who try to tear the games down at every cost, these games are the perfect blend of action, exploring and puzzle solving. While I don't think Tomb Raider 3 is as good as the first two, it has it's moments. The levels and their design are excellent. The control is great, as always ( anybody that tries to tell you the control is horrible obviously has no skills ). The only things that drag this one down is the insane difficulty of some of the later levels and the villians ( or lack of villians ). TR 3 is hard, particularly when you get to Anartica, sometimes way too hard. Sometimes it's so frustrating you just want to give up and cheat, but I urge you to keep trying, it will make winning the game that much more rewarding. Then there are the villians, one scottish wussy who is about as menacing as Mini-Me, some English woman you chase across a rooftop and a giant spider. I mean c'mon, remember the greatness of villians like Natla, Larsen and Pierre. These were villians that were worthy of my time. TR3's villians are mere obstacles in your way. Even with these minor dissapointments, TR3 has great graphics, nice storyline and the most important thing of all, Lara Croft. A great buy for Action/Adventure fans.

I completed the first two Tomb Raider games, and was impressed with the improvements in Tomb Raider III. The games in the TR series are easily the best video games I have ever played. Here, the levels are unbelieveably complex and beautiful, even in comparison to TR I and II. Also, I found quite interesting and challenging the "save gem" strategy -- which has been fundamentally altered from the first two games -- in that you collect save gems, and can use them at any time, but you only have a limited amount. Those good things being said, I give the game a mediocre rating simply because it is impossibly hard, even with a walkthrough telling you what to do. In fact, I finally said enough's enough and gave up on the game about half the way through. There literally is one incredibly difficult situation to solve followed one after the other. The game needed better pacing, with easier stretches to complete in between the tough ones, so you at least have the sense that you are moving along.

There's only one word to describe this game - INFURIATING. This third installment in the TR series will arouse so much ire in the player that they will literally take the CD from the system and crack it to pieces with a sledgehammer. There's no way to play this game unassisted. This is the preparation checklist for sitting down to play Tomb Raider 3: 1) your dog's chew toy 2) pacifier (for stress) 3) cool cloth (for boiling anger) 4) vat of ice water (to completely chill out if necessary 5) something heavy to hurl at the screen - can be lead or steel 6) manufacturer's warranty on your TV and your Playstation 7) Lithium for violent mood swings And lastly, but certainly not least... 8) A STRATEGY GUIDE!
If you don't have one of these before you sit down to play TR3, you're not going to get anywhere. The entire game is a literal maze, and you never know where to go first or last. If you don't go through the right steps in the right order or obtain the correct key for the correct door, you might as well turn the game off and start ALL OVER AGAIN. TR3 is unbelievably difficult, and I think Eidos should've held a recall on this game, because I imagine there was mass destruction of distributed copies and lots of angry letters telling them that all their programmers should be fired for insulting the gaming world's intelligence with such a ridiculously difficult and puzzling game. I am part of that crowd, but I'm sad to say that I never sent a letter.
I feel the pain of those who bought it when it first came out on the market, spending top dollar to experience that funny tickling sensation all over your skin that comes with pure and unadulterated rage.
SAVE YOUR MONEY, MY PRECIOUS SOULS!
If you want an enjoyable game by Eidos, and yes, I dare say it, purchase TR 4: The Last Revelation. You'll spend a little more, but you'll be so much more pleased with the difficulty level and maybe Eidos will slowly begin to erase themselves from your list of games banned from your entertainment system.

Good edition to the Lara Croft series, but with a few bugs.

If you loved Tomb Raider I & II then definitely get this game. Tomb Raider III has the same feel and gameplay as the first to so fans will not be disappointed. The new graphics are great! The new textures are more realistic and such touches as sunbeams and her smoking guns really appeal. On the downside, items are smaller and much harder to spot and identify. Lara's new moves are fun to try out but the crawling feature is a little hard to control at first. As for the new save option, all I can say is get a hint book right away. The weapons cheat will also give you 50 extra save crystals. Trust me, you'll need them.
As for the analog compatabilty, I'm not sure it's worth it. Most of the time it's great and makes the game real fluid, but sometimes when you're backed up into corners or trying to look through windows the screen starts jumping wildly. Also I haven't experienced much vibration at all. I don't think the guys at Eidos really planned for analog the way the creators of Metal Gear Solid did.
All in all, the game is fun, the graphics great, the gameplay the same. It is a good solid edition to the Tomb Raider series, but I'm already looking forward to #4.

This game is the epitomy of greatness as far as Adventure/Action games are concerned. Today is 2004, and I installed this game on my PC after finding it buried in the back of my drawer. I expected crap. Man was I off....
Basically, you are Lara Croft, and run around from the Jungles of India to Area 51 in Nevada, to the abandoned railway tunnels of London's Alwych, to the stone age wilderness of the South Pacific(infested with Raptors, of course ;D), and finally to Antarctica to this really cool lost city.
On the whole, this game breaks down like this:
   - Graphics: 7/10 - For it's time, not bad.....
   - Sound: 9/10 - Excellent. Music is good, voiceovers believable, etc.....
   - Gameplay - 9/10 - Not much different from other TR games yet strangely, it's a lot of fun

This is the worst game I have ever played. To sum up the gameplay:
Load 50 times so you can just BARELY get past a falling rock yet at the same time jumping over swinging blades that just seem to be "running on empty" in the middle of an ancient palace that supposedly hasn't been visited in thousands of years. That is not a challenge. A challenging game should be well thought out, not so asinine that the player is bordering on throwing everything within reach at the TV screen due to extreme frustration over why this game was even produced.
-Tomb Raider is a great game.
-Tomb Raider 2 is ok, but it could have been better.
-Tomb Raider 3 could not have possibly been worse.
As a series of games progress, a certain level of expectation takes place where the successor is supposed to be that much better than its predecessor. This latest installment is just a cookie cutter rendition of the first Tomb Raider game with new backgrounds slapped on. Hey if you thought the first two games were equally great and weren't let down even slightly with the second game, then by all means, shell out more money on this game. If you look to grow as far as a human being and look towards growth in everything you do, look elsewhere. This is a steadily declining series, rather than the preferable opposite.

The third in the hugely enjoyable instalments of Lara Croft's adventures, cyber-babe Lara continues to collect artifacts whilst casually eradicating the world's rare animals (including the last T-rex).
This time Lara begins her adventures in a temple of Kali in India, after a piece of an ancient meteorite with strange powers. The storyline is weaker than in the first two movies owing to the new feature of a non-linear plotline. After India, Lara can choose to explore the south sea islands, London, or Area -51 before finally venturing to Antarctica.
Whilst the storyline is flimsy the new weaponry is the best to appear in the games. Along with the usual weapons Lara now can have a Desert Eagle pistol with great stopping power or the Heckler and Koch MP5 favoured by special forces. Her new skills this time round include crawling and a very useful sprint function that means you don't have to bounce around like a fool to cover ground quickly. The graphics are sumptuous, the animated Kali statues look fantastic. New ways to die include immersion in cold water and shoals of vicious piranha that can kill in seconds.
New vehicles include the quad bike and a very difficult to control (but still fun) kayak. The essential skill to master this time is to be able to crouch whilst letting Lara happily blast away with her handguns. Useful for taking out cobras and unwary guards. The levels are satisfyingly huge so you'll be spending a lot of time finishing this game and for the hard-core purists, this time all the secrets unlock a hidden level called All Hallows.

I love all of the tomb raider games but this one was really bad. The most frustrating aspect of this game are the saving crystals.Unlike all the other game where you just go to the pasport at will, you must collect crystals in order to save. This did not increase the difficulty of the game at all. I just found it annoying. I returned it to the store and got Tomb Raider The Last Revelation which I am very happy with.
