If you think the Final Fantasy series is good, this is 1,000,000 times better. The graphics may not be the best, but the story, characters, action, fun, and laughter makes up for it. Best RPG I've played. It comes with 2 game discs, 1 music CD, 1 making of Lunar SSSC playstation disk, a hardback instruction book, foldable cloth map, and a cool case to carry it in. If you like RPGs, you will love this one!

This was one of the most amazing games I have ever played. I got so into it, too. Anyone who gets this game is bound to get into it like I did. The animation was great and very detailed. The color was perfect and the characters were hilarious. It has a great storyline and everything. It was so heart felt and the end was so powerful. The fighting is original and skillful at the same time. If it was any game I would get this one. It takes good strategies and skill to play this game. Anyone can really play it though. There's plenty of tricks in the game also. Almost anyone would love this game. It has its action, comedy, romance, great animation, fighting skills, magic, short movies, and much more. This is definetly a great game to get.

Lunar was a great game! It was a refreshing break from the Final Fantasy series. This game provided challenge, fun, humor, and sadness. Lunar is the classic exapmle that RPG's should be modeled after. The graphics weren't that great, but the AnimeChecks were always a treat. If you like RPG's this is definately the game for you!

Lunar is definitely not the most cutting edge RPG out there. The graphics are old-school, the battle system is simpistic, and the magic spells are nice but nothing too flashy or imaginative. If you look beyond the superficial, however, Lunar is an excellent role-playing game that overcomes your initial impressions.
The strength of Lunar is its beautifully written story and dialogue which is almost unparalleled by other RPGs available for the PSX. The voice-acting, while not of Hollywood professional caliber, was still good and more than enough to actually draw you into actually caring about the characters. For example, when one of the group betrays you in the middle of the game, you actually feel outrage and frustration at that person's actions.
Of particular note, most of the written dialogue of the game was rewritten for a more "Americanized" feel to it, that is, not of the usual corny or nonsensical nature that one hears in most Japanese anime due to horrendous grammerical translational errors.
Also of note are the beautiful animated cut-scenes which, I admit, were what drew me to the game in the first place. These cut-scenes are not done to be flashy and do not seem out of place in the game when compared to the in-game graphics. Rather, the anime is a beautiful vessel in which the game's storyline is enhanced and important events are portrayed in a more up-front and personal way.
Ratings: Graphics (4/5) - in-game gfx are outdated but the anime is great and makes up for it; Sound (5/5) - sfx are good and Luna's haunting boat song will stick in your mind for a long time; Gameplay (4/5) - the controls are good, the battle system is simple but actually, I prefer it this way so that I can concentrate on the story events and character development rather than figuring out which materia does what to what guardian force; Overall (5/5) - a wonderful game with story and heart. As long as you don't care too much about the superficials. Definitely a great RPG for new gamers. The only gripe I have is that the game is a bit short. Definitely satifying though and makes me hunger for the next installment. - A. Lee

This game delivered to me what Granstream Saga failed to. GS tried to get you emotionally hooked all while showing anime and failed pretty well (although I did like the game as a whole). This game is loaded with different anime style cut scenes and has a very good storyline with great emotional intrigue. Only one other game has emotion this loaded, and that would be Final Fantasy 8. Okay, so the gaming graphics could use a bit, but this isn't exactly new. Some people say not to buy this because it is a rehash. But think in my position. What if you really enjoyed this game when it first came out or wanted to play it but didn't have a Sega CD? I say if you really like RPGs, you'll love this game.

I played Lunar with my cousin and we both really enjoyed it. It has one of the best plots and some really great voice acting. It took me and my cousing 28 hours to beat both discs although we had the official stradegy guide. All the time the company took to make this 4 disc game greatly paid off. I didn't buy it, my mom bought it for me for my birthday and i'm glad she did. This game is wonderful, it's the best rpg i have ever played and i probably ever will play. Guys will probably like it a bit more due to the fact of the women bromides and the women bathing. Although i think the men bathing was hilarious because they made strange noises. Well anyway i think (and hope) they come out with a Lunar:Silver Star Story Complete 2 : Magic Emperer's Revenge or something like that. I think you should buy and play this game. It's got wonderful music and is very emotional. I was very upset after i finished this game because i really liked it and wanted to keep playing!

I've played quite a bit of RPG's. From Dragon Warrior on nintendo all the way to FF8 on playstation. And from my experience in RPGs this is one of the finest ive played. Others may criticize this game for its "old school graphics" but those couldnt bother me less. Maybe its because i have had all kinds of exposure to those types of graphics, it just has never bothered me. If you want astonishing graphics, stick w/ the final fantasy series. if you want a great storyline, steller characters, and a game you will really get attached to. pick lunar up. dont let the, let me say "technologically chalanged" graphics turn you away. if i could change one thing about this game it would be the battle system. after awile it boils down to alex doing sword dance. there is i must say much more skill involed in them then the average RPG. i would like to see yet a little more effort put into the battle system. My all time fav. battle system is the one in final fantasy tactics. well my closing statment will be. GET LUNAR. the word to describe it is stellar.

How would you rate this game? A classic.
We know that ultimately there will be a plot for the hero to "save the world," but does Working Designs do this well through the use of humor, a detailed story, and lovable characters? Yes.
So you're saying that players are more likely to remember and talk about the characters than the "ultimate" weapons? Yes.
Is it true that this game doesn't take advantage of the Playstation's ability to render 360k polygons a second? Yes.
There are suggestive themes! You can say that. If your kid is old enough to read, they should be allowed to play. If they are old enough to understand the subtle hints for what they are and you are "protecting" them from reality, what are you trying to raise?
Is this another game about White People? Yeah =)~

This is one of the BEST RPG's I have ever played. To start with, the story is gripping. You want to keep finding out what is going to happen. The basic plot is this: You are Alex, a teenager who wants to become the next Dragon Master, like his hero, Dyne. The first adventure leads you into a quest to save the world.
The battle engine is different from most RPGs. It is turn based like Wild ARMs but it also incorporates movement and distances. This allows for a strong emphasis on strategy. It also keeps the game fresh, as every battle is different.
The graphics do look a bit dated being in 2D, but the bright colors are a nice change from drab backgrounds. They have a cartoonish look to them but are very clean. The cut-scenes are very well done with an anime quality to them.
There is also a lot of spoken material in the game. The voice acting is superbly done. In the cut-scenes the voices go almost perfectly with the characters mouths.
Finally, the soundtrack is one to be remembered. It has wonderful songs and memorable tones. I was glad that a sound track CD came with the game, I just wanted to keep listening to the music.
In the end it all adds up to one thing, a great lasting experience. This game belongs in everyone's collection, not just an RPGer.

Back in the old days of the Sega CD, I remember hearing about 3 games: Lunar, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue and Vay, each of which were created by Working Designs. Now WD has re-released the first Lunar for the vastly more popular Playstation and RPG fans of the world couldn't be much happier. This game has beautiful graphics (including some INCREDIBLE anime-style cut scenes), a wonderful soundtrack (which comes on a seperate CD with the game), excellent rumble-shock capability, easy to learn gameplay and, most of all, a compelling storyline which keeps twisting until the end. Though WD has changed the storyline from the original, it is still essentially a wonderful addition to any PSX collection and I recommend it to anybody. Plus, look for the sequel Lunar 2: Eternal Blue to be released sometime in 2000.
