Good flight sim, repetitve combat

This is the first Ace Combat game I've played, so I won't be comparing it to any prequels, just judging it on it's own merits. As far as flight simulation goes, it's pretty good. The airplane models are beautifully and accurately rendered, and flight controls are also good. Arcade mode are timed "shoot everything in sight" missions, while campaign mode presents the player with a barely engaging (and often corny) storyline and characters, and missions with plane parts to unlock hidden planes. While there are many different planes to unlock, they are very similiar in performance and unless you're a nut for 100% completion you'll need no more than three. My only complaints are the "missle-lock-and-fire" repetitive simplicity of most of the missions and the near constant in-flight chatter that can get VERY annoying with subtitles that get in the way, creeping over the HUD in some cases. Then there are the inane and pointless questions your wingmen ask you during campaign missions that you're prompted to answer with the D-button, during which your directions to your marginally helpful wingman are disabled. If you like air combat, give this one a try.

Overall graphics/story/gameplay were great. If you were a fan of Ace Combat 4, this game is a must buy.

In this game you play as an un-named ace/beginner pilot. You are known as Blaze,Kid or Captain. First you play as a squadron member, then your flight lead gets shot down. You are then the squad leader and control your wingmen: Chopper, Edge(Nagase)and Archer(Grimm). Later Chopper dies and after Final Option you get Swordsman(Captain Snow) as his replacement. With an engaging storyline, missions and surprising twist this game takes AC4 one step further. If you don't press anything on the PRESS START screen for 10 seconds you see a mini-movie, showing a bit of the game. You are, early on, SIS(Sand Island Squadron) but later become 'The Demons of Razgriz' then after you and your squadron 'die' the 'Ghosts of Razgriz'.

This Game is Awesome!!!

I got this game a few weeks ago after i got back from space camp. I love planes and this game has tons. Over 50 planes to unlock and buy. this game is a must have!!!

Well im like a pc gamer instead a console gamer but i say this game is great lookin the graphics is the most thing that impress me no pc flight combat graphics is as good as this. but this game good look great if it is release for the pc. I gave it a 5 stars because it look great but i am tired of waiting for a good flight game like to come out for the pc.

Even though I dont play the game,I am reviewing this VG for my dad. This game is the BOMB!! Ive seen my dad play it and he was hooked on it! It looks and sounds realistic. Stop reading this and go buy it!!! :)

Having been spoiled by the professional play of Battlefield 2, I was not only disappointed with this game, I was shocked. It has the same technology as the origional "ping pong" and I couldn't resell it fast enough. Save your money on this one.

this is a pretty good game. challenging levels, outstanding graphics, good gameplay, semi-easy controlsm, but it sucks for just one tiny reason. . . WHEN YOU GET TO THE LAST LEVEL YOU WILL NOT SEE THE ENDING! THE LAST LEVEL IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST FOR THAT REASON, THAT ONE REASON IS WHY THIS GAME TURNED FROM 4/5 TO 2/5 STARS! i say rent it for fun but DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, i've got to say this is the best series yet, i can't wait for 6 to come out. I have already beaten the 4th one and this comes along. The voice acting is ok, but hamilton and chopper are great. Edge (the asian girl) says "amazing" to much and on that escape level where we stole the trianing jets, they coplemented "Pops" too much. Anyway, this game is great, 30 missons, 50 planes to choose from, and i already beat this one. That satellite mission was hard, that thing was huge, so was the white bird mission. This game also has ne cg cut scenes (like sonic heroes). Also you were playing as the bad guy, you, your team and Pops wer spies of the yuktobonia air force, then you escape, go to the ship (which is still the kestrel) and on one briefing a missile hits and then it goes on red alert, when it does this you have to choose your planes quckly, they said any plane, i chose my F-22 planes. This game is fun and they just said over 30 missions but its acually 27 because i think 3 missions have some second missions in them. The graphics on this game are amazing, on the replay the computer planes don't fly good, its as if the ground was moving and they were just turning and spinning. The computer planes had this flight sequence. I also didn't like that dumb cerimonial flight, i was messin up on the whole thing because i didn't know what to do. But this game is great, so buy this game!!!

i never write reviews - however, this is an impressive game -
using the dualshock controlers i am blown away by how detailed, yet not overly complicated the game is to play - you definitely have to have a passion for aviation and also have some appreciation of the physics behind it to understand where you are, what you are doing, and what to do next in relation to the skies around you and most importantly, who is around you - building and flying model planes has definitely given me an understanding of some basic laws of aerodynamics -

if you are completely new to flying, and aviation - do not be deterred by the realism of the game - you will learn very quickly - fun factor is definitely high and a huge bonus as are the replays that are offered at any point in the game, as well as the entire review of the level(if you choose to view it) at the end - the view angles are highly impressive -

i have only finished the first four missions and i am looking forward to graduating to a higher performance plane and purchasing the flight stick- did i mention that the sound effects are amazing? - when i engage - i turn on my sony 5.1 theatre - nothing comes closer
