The NASCAR 06: Total Team Control Review

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 9 / 13
Date: August 31, 2005

The Reason I rated NASCAR 06: Total Team Control 5 stars as the game fun, because this is the best game I've ever bought. Here are a few features:

1. Car Swapping- When you crash, you get to swap cars with your teammate.

2. Block- Now this is when somebody is coming up hot on your tail, also ther is an opponent trying to make a move right in front of you. If you have a teammate behind your rival, select the "block" command. When you select that command He'll keep that opponent behind you.

3. Move- When a teammate is like blocking your path, select the "move" command. Your teammate will move over for you.

4. Follow- When you want to draft with your teammate, select the "follow" command. That command means you want your teammate to "FOLLOW" you.

I loved the game, you should too. Availaible in stores now from EA Sports for PS2 and XBOX.

Just traded in 2005 for 2006 and I am VERY unhappy. Online gameplay is slow and lagging. The cars handle poorly and the speeds do not match the play (i.e. if you are going 190 mph looks like you are going 75 mph). Not what I expected.

Best nascar game yet!

Unlike the horrible Madden 2006 game, EA comes out with an amazing 2006 game: Nascar 2006 Total Team Control. I like the fact that you can change your car to one of your teamates cars and bring him up through the field. I like changing from Jeff Gordon to Jimmie Johnson so i can drive Johnson up front to draft with Gordon.
I like the feature where you can tell your teammate what to do. A lot of times i need a block or a drafting partnere, and you can send amessage to your teamates to block, or draft with you.
Overall this game is very fun to play. I highly reccomend it to a Nascar fan, our a gamer looking for a good game.

Very disappointed with steering

The steering on Nascar 2006 is really awful. It's even more awful compared to the past two Nascar games. I just received the game today and tried to play it. I was really shocked at how I simply could not drive the car consistently. The steering is sluggish, but at the same time "jerky". I found it impossible to be smooth in the turns, or for that matter, be smooth on the straights trying to change lanes. The rest of the game changes seem really good, but if I can't drive the cars the other changes don't matter. I'm going to give the game away... it's that bad. I would suggest renting the game first. This is the first review I've ever written because I don't want others to make the same mistake I have made.

Does EA even know what NASCAR is?

[...] NASCAR '98 on PS1 is way better. Does anyone at EA even realize WHY NASCAR fans would want to play a NASCAR game? Well, its not because the want an arcade experience, I can tell you that much. This series would be great if they gave it half the attention they give their Formula One games! I might as well be playing Burnout! Who's the idiot that came up with the idea of controlling 4 cars at once? And why are there still no replays??? If there are 2 races on the same day, the game acts like you raced in both, giving you credit for starting both races. There are not full fields. 30 real drivers and 13 "JJ Johnson's" are not full fields. And please get rid of this stupid rival thing!! If Jeff Gordon BARELY touches Greg Biffle, Biffle's not going to commit suicide trying to hit him back!! But believe me, EA sure does think he would! Even if you draft with someone for an hour, one slight bump and they'll stalk you for life!! Expecting to keep up with your stats?? Well think again, cuz you can't! Yep, you cannot keep up with your own stats, or anyone else's in this game! You simply get shown the standings. Huh??!! If that's not bad enough, R1 is the gas and L2 is the brake. HEAR ME??? The R2 & L2 buttons CONTROL THE CAR... Not X, not even R1, but R2 is the gas... Have fun breaking your hand!

Good but not the best

Nascar 06 is definately not the best it can be but it certainly the best out to date. I think that EA isn't consistent with the games though, because i loved the depth of control you had with your team in 03 picking which chassis engine and body you want this weekend, building them specific to each track. But they lacked the teams which are so crucial to nascar now 4-5 cars teams arent right in real nascar but 2-3 is reasonable enough. Basically with these teams its a one time charge to get your cars the best they can be.
I Personally love the fact that you cant hold a nice and straight line through the turns that you have to work at it, you can't just go with the basic setup you have to work with it. Plus by making the car so sensitive, its coming one step closer to being like nascar, they are very accurate in the way you have to fight the thing really hard when its loose, and the way you gotta slow way down if it's pushing.
A lot of the team commands are good ideas the car swapping is a fun idea but not something that should apply in career mode, in the arcade mode yeah because your just racing for the hell of it so you want to be able to finish it. The move over and block etc. commands are a very nice touch because that is someting that goes on in nascar. One thing i havent thought to check yet is whether or not 06 has pocono, i know 05 lacked pocono, i dont really like pocono but i do believe that they need to stick to nascar as much as possible. They also run a lot of made up tracks for the busch, trucks, and mods i think that if they are putting out a game like this they need the real tracks. The fanatasy tracks again are something for arcade mode. One final note its about time they put the truck in as a bonus feature, way to jump on the bandwagon after many years of the we want to race the truck campaign.

EA SPORTS. ITS STILL NOT IN THE GAME

Whom ever is in charge of the NASCAR series for EA needs to be fired. Who ever this person is has no idea about the sport what so ever. Once again EA wastes really good graphics and inoventions. Please someone tell me the last time they saw a NASCAR race and when the car hit the wall at 200 mph the car was able to keep going and win the race? PLus just bumping someone by accidnet does NOT always result in retaliation resembling a suicide run. Also for some reason ea decided its wants o see how frustrated they can make you by making steering incredibly hard. Since there is no other nascar game EA has the market cornered and certainly does not listen to the fans. Its a decent game that will frustrate you more than please you.

It's okay.

Well, this is a game that I think is not a very good game like Gran Turismo 4 and Need For Speed Underground 2. It is because the game play is kind of bad because as somebody mentions, the steering is not very good. So, it will a tough game to beat. I do agree with them. Second, the visual is kind of rough. Not very good but this is just slightly better. Also, for the sound effect, it is good but some improvement can be made like the team radio. Overall, this game I can say is only "okay". You can try it but you might regret it.

NOT WORTH PLAYING

I've been buying EA Sports nascar games ever since 2003 and have been pleased with each year but this one. Every game takes a little getting used to but this one is impossibe. I use a driving wheel and pedals on my playstation 2 for my nascar games and not once I've had to program the gas and brake pedals in to use it. The first time I played this game, when it said go I had no gas and no brakes. I thought my steering wheel was broken but after a while I figured it out. I thought everything was going to be okay but I soon found out that I couldn't even push the gas pedal down an inch without doing a burnout. And the braking was the same way. I couldn't go down into a corner and put on the brakes without locking them up. It is ridiculous. I myself could live without controlling my teamates cars as well as mine but I guess EA Sports has to put something new in the game every year so people will buy it and I appreciate that they are trying to make the game better but it seems like every good thing they try to add they have to take away a good aspect of the game and this year it was the driving part of it. The bottom line is this is a racing simulater game and this year the game doesn't resemble that. I guess we'll just have to wait until next year to see if that game is worth paying good money for.As for the graphics of it, they are good. The tracks look just like they would in person and for the most part, so do the cars. Another bad thing about this game is when you're going 200 miles an hour somewhere, it seems like you are going about 70. The 2003, 2004, and 2005 games were great but not 2006. My take on this game is that they have really messed it up and if you are thinking about buying it, rent it first.

Too much loading time & too hard to drive

I spend too much time waiting for the game to load and the controller lacks any sort of subtlety. Tapping on the controller last year would help you keep a smooth corner, this year tapping has no impact so you are forced to hold the button down which causes more dramatic steering. I appreciate EA's desire to load the game with features, but don't take away game play. I'd rather do away with the Feather light series and speed loading time up. It's amazing to me that these problems survived testing at EA. I do not recommend this game.
