Gameshark2 for Playstation 2

We recently bought a PS2 and Gameshark2. When we tried to use the Gameshark2 all we got was a message saying to insert a PS2 format disk. We contacted Gameshark and were told that Sony has changed the reader on the newer PS2's and the Gameshark2's won't work. The first time we were told that they would send us the new CD within 2 weeks. We called again yesterday and were told that they are updating their CD's but it may be several more weeks before they are available. Their suggestion "Return to the store for a refund or exchange it and see if the one we get is a newer version." (How it would be a newer one baffles me since he said that they are not out yet.) There are no markings on the boxes to indicate if you are getting the older, non-working version or the newer one that works. Since the store where we purchased the Gameshark2 doesn't give refunds on open software and will only even exchange within 30 days of purchase I guess we are simply out the ...!! Gameshark says this is Sony's problem but I think they should pull the Gameshark2's that are on the shelves if they don't work.

lets clear up a few things.

ok in response to what one reviewer said. the gameshark and the ps2 can be real glitchy. sometimes it says there is no disk or it will say no hardware detected. if it says no disk just hit the reset button. if it says no hardware detected turn of the ps2 and remove and replace the gameshark. it has to be in there just right or the ps2 wont read it. in my opinion the gameshark pro for the playstation was the best gs because of the code generator and the fewest problems. why they could not duplicate this for the ps2 is beyond me. on the right games the gs for ps2 is great. on the other hand it uses a memory card slot and some games wont save on slot 2 which means you cant use the codes on a saved file. you will have to start a new game. interact needs to upgrade the gs so you can use slot 1 for both the memory card and the gs just like some 3rd party remote sensors for the ps2. overall a worty item but expect some glityches and some incompatable games. and one last note. the gs will not erase your info. i know several people who use the gs all the time with many different games and never had this problem. if you lose data it might be because of third party memory cards which are proned to that. hope this info is helpful.

This won't work with some Playstation 2's

I bought this peripheral (Version 1.3) today to help me out in some games. I plug it in and it says that the version of the software that I have wont work with my Playstation 2 because my Playstation 2 has safeguards against it. So the software says to contact Gameshark.com for more updates. DON'T BUY THIS IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR PLAYSTATION 2 WITH THE GT3 BUNDLE PACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is no good to the latest playstation2. if you have just got a playstation2 the ps2 gameshark disk won't work. you will have to also get the upgrade disk ... . you do need the gameshark "memory card" thing to make the upgrade disk work. stuck between a rock and a hard place. well worth it other than you feel like you have been ripped off when you get it home and it doesn't work. then you can make it work if you are willing to spend just a little more money. the reason is the sony changed the format on newwer ps2 systems so the original ps2 gameshark disk won't work. that's why you need the upgrade disk. marketing you have got to love it.

Don't Waste Your Money-Buy codebreaker

I used to think that the gs was the ultimate cheat device. I was dead wrong. Another cheat device called the "code breaker" is thousands of times better. The code breaker not only lets you use game shark codes but also enables the use of other codes! GS is payed off by game compaines to not release many codes!! and check out codes for phantasy star online. They only have one code! But if you check out underground sites they post many many more. The code breaker is only $30.00 and works better and does more. And the code breaker can be found here at amazon or many other mainstream videogame shops. End InterAct's reign of terror now dont limit your codes get codebreaker now!

GameShark. Need I say more?

Well this is one of those products that is always good no matter how screwed up you are. I mean, it's GameShark for PS2 for crying outloud! How could it be bad? The best accessory for the best system. Then to top it off, InterAct throws in codes for PSone. I tell you, it's pure gold.

Overall, you should buy this. If you just got a PlayStation2, however, wait to purchase this item until you have a few games to use it with. Don't want to be wasting hard earned cash on something your not going to use.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

DO NOT BUY GAMESHARK 2, Five of my friends that have tried it in their PS2 have had fatal errors and sony will not help out, unless you fork out $120 bucks. It works for a good month then seriously messes up your PS2. My PS2 will not play non-dvd games or playstation 1 games anymore, some games that are non-dvd are madden 2002 and fifa 2001. It will only play dvd's and dvd rom games. SO I BEG YOU DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I'M WRITING TO THE COMPANY AS I WRITE THIS.

Caution Required

You must be extremely careful when entering codes with this product, and many cheats that adjust "inventory" for your character(s) should be saved on a different save slot than your regular saves. The reason being is there often is a glitch in the saved game data while the gameshark codes for adjusting the inventory are on. I found it best to cheat the inventory, save, reset, turn those inventory codes off, and resume/load.

If you intend to use this to move game saves around, look somewhere else. An 8mb cartridge with 15 saves took FOREVER to load the directory, and another eternity to perform the requested operation. I have to mark off a point from perfection just for this performance issue alone. (I'm using GS2 v2.)

I also would encourage simply using the PS2 by itself to view DVDs, or get the Sony DVD remote and software accessory. I don't believe the GS2 has any specific advantage to being used as a DVD player.

If you don't have a lifetime to master the technique required to defeat a boss, earn an item of equipment, survive a specific challenge, or progress past a certain point in the game, this product enables you to get over these hurdles, if in a somewhat technical, sometimes confusing, way. Especially if it's a game you have to enter codes for. Entering 16-digit hexadecimal numbers (sometimes 10 of them at once) to workaround your game problem can be a bit daunting. My wish is that they would allow you to burn a CD on a regular PC CD-R drive that this product could read and use as an update to its code library.

When You Just Can't Stand It Any Longer

Have you ever had one of those moments when you've played a whole game, found yourself facing the very last boss and, just as you reach for your sword/wand/ray gun, gotten blown clear into the next universe? Repeatedly? Have you ever had to spend two thirds of your game time leveling up and still found no way to get in more than two lucky hits? GameShark2 was made for those moments - it helps you cheat.

I'm not going to argue the ethics of deciding when you need a crutch. For some of us, a little extra time and power to figure out what is going on and how to fix it is worth hours of frustrating or tedious game play. Game play is about having fun, not beating your head against the wall. GameShark2 is my last resort when I have spent an entire weekend trying to get past a single challenge.

For all its miraculous powers, GameShark2 has some serious drawbacks. For one thing, unless what you want is very straightforward, it is difficult to use. To keep up with new games (or extended cheats for old ones) it is necessary to visit GameShark's web site any print out the new cheat codes. How to enter those codes is a both mysterious and clumsy. And if the don't seem to work, it can be just as frustrating as getting stuck in the game can be.

When you finally master the clumsiness, GameShark2 is often a game saver. And I guess that it keeps karma balanced if it is a bit of a challenge to cheat. The price is reasonable, and this is the most versatile of the cheating tools available. Just be prepared to read a manual full of tiny, tiny print.

warning!!!!!!!!!!!
