RIP Spyro

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 68 / 72

Positives: Beautiful graphics
Negatives: No mini-games, no playable characters, bare minimum of collecting, continous gameplay- no going back or to alternate worlds. A 3-D scroller essentially. Limited fire-breath, new fighting "combos", limited magic.

If you thought that the last game ,A New Beginning was too different from the Spyro you know and love, don't bother with this one. Gameplay is so different that the only thing this game has in common with other Spyro games is the characters.
There are no mini-games, no side-quests, no interaction with other characters, and the barest minimum of collecting. Two relics and the occasional quill. If you miss these, there is no way to go back. How is that possible? There is only one world, only one way to explore, and no map. The game itself is beautiful- adorable cutscenes and a almost movie-like quality. However, the controls are completely different. You are required to defeat enemies using "combos", pressing different buttons in order, instead of just running up and flaming them. Flaming is a occasional option; you have limited fire-breath and must find chargable crystals to re-charge. Another new effect is dragon time. Spyro can now make the game go into slo-motion for a few seconds.
Which is why I say RIP Spyro; this game is so desperate to evolve that it leaves out EVERYTHING that made it such a popular series in the first place.

Please Bring Back the Old Spyro!!

I have been playing Spyro since it came out. Loved it, me and a million other people. The earlier Spyro's were so much fun to play. Could not wait for the next one to come out. So of course, they saw the need to change it. The last one was horrible and this is it's brother.
There are so many Spyro fans that we keep buying it hoping the next one will be better and the next and so on. I give up. Last one I will buy. Maybe if we hit them in the pocketbook, they will listen.

Gone to far...

I pre ordered this new Spyro because I have had so much fun with all of the prior versions (except the last one). This is not the Spyro I have followed and enjoyed. It consists of constant battles rather than collecting, exploring and killing the cute characters smelling their armpits. I am so discouraged that they would change something that has been so loved. They should have left Spyro the way he was or at least changed the name so you would have a clue that this was not the same type of game. You cannot go back to other worlds and it really has no exploring. There is only one way to go and you have to battle every step of the way.

I did not like the last 2 Spyro games. The earlier additions were great. The last 2 have way too many scenes you have to watch to go further in the game. They're a big pain. Also, having to learn the fighting techniques is tedious. Learning them is ok, having to know them is not. I think most players are like me and just want to play the game. Learning moves is important, but on my own schedule is preferable.
Because of so many "have to's" in the game it's rather annoying.

The Wyrm Turns

In previous Spyro games, my daughter has laughed and giggled at the silly creatures, collected goodies, and had footraces with a little thief who makes silly "Nyaah-nyaah" noises the whole way.
Sierra has taken this franchise and turned it into a little-boy game. Only trouble is, any child who has played these games is going to be disappointed at the non-stop monotonous murder--unless you're training your child to be addicted to destroying an endless chain of monsters, don't bother. The cute factor is gone. My daughter used to love running through other levels again--that's gone too. Now you plow straight from beginning to end like a purple Beowulf, stuck to your quest until the bitter end.

Not the Same

Spyro just is not the same anymore.

These past two games have just been hard work and constant battle after battle, with nearly no breaks in between. Spyro is no longer the spunky little dragon with all his friends who used to be playable characters.

There are no longer portals and levels that you can even return to after you've been there. There are no mini-missions, no exploration, no collecting of items, no fun. Enemies take hits and hits to kill and you only have a limited amount of you magical flames which need to be restored by gems which used to be your equivalent of money to buy items to help you along your journey.

I wish they had not changed Spyro and all of its entirety. Spyro used to be an excellent adventure game for all ages. Now it seems to fall under the category of merely another fighting game. I'm very disappointed with the way they have remodeled Spyro. This is not how Spyro became one of the greatest games we know today. We need to make it clear that this may as well no longer be the game called "Spyro."

They should not have tried to fit in with all the other game creators and publishers. Spyro was one of a kind and a wonderful, amusing game, now it's as I said. I almost feel like we should write a petition to change Spyro back. If not, let them make these new Spyro games, but also, ones that were the way they used to be.

Ok with all these bad reviews I hop this new company that took over after spyro 3 will get the fact that they suck at this and need to change it back the way it was. I miss the old spyros where moneybags was there and hunter what happned to him and the portals to new worlds with mini games geese Ive seen some companys turn a good game into a bad one when they got the rights to it but this is the WORST!

go away Spyro, your time on this planet is finally over

I'm going to be completely honest with you guys- these new Spyro games can't compare to the original three on the Playstation One. The first three Spyro games are considered classic platforming brilliance with excellent gameplay and a magical world of creativity. But the NEW games have WAY too many annoying features and confusing controls, not to mention the glitchy graphical problems they present. Stick with the original three, which are called "Spyro the Dragon", "Spyro: Ripto's Rage" and "Spyro: Year of the Dragon". The first three were, you know, FUN!

I have all the Spyro Games that have been made and luckily after the last one decided to rent this one before buying it as I was very dissappointed by the last and the loss of the Spyro I and everyone fell in love with. The makers of Spyro had a magnificent game and creature that we all adored and loved to play over and over. They took that love and wonderful game and distroyed it with the last game and have continued on the destrucive path. Give me the original fun loving Spyro back where he had friends and went all over in search of jewels and such. That was the best. I want back Spyro.

Bring back the old Spyro game

I agree with the other reviews which have been written about Spyro. I really miss how the older games were created. They offered so much more of a challenge (even for a mother in her 30's). This Spryo is much more darker and really no fun to play at all. I discourage anyone from purschasing this - especially for children - as it is not an enjoyable game. Thank goodness I rented this game - so all I was out was 6.99. I hope they bring back the old Spryo....
