What went wrong

Need for speed has been dependable for a long long time. Sure it was generic and we got one every year. This time, it took a big U turn. Every thing we liked in the past games are gone. Just after 15 min the game get so boring you will never touch the controller again. Probably it is a Wii port up. Cars looks good. Environment all look like a Wii/PS2 game. Stay with Carbon for now.

4 races into this game and I was bored, I did not feel like playing it anymore. Free roam is missing where I could have gone an be lawless for a bit until I felt like playing again. Customization is great best of the series to me but that's the only good thing it has going for it.

Well, I have played the NFS games in the past mainly when I get bored of other games, never got a chance to get into carbon but based on my past experience all I have to say is wow, this game is terrible. Not only do you lose free roam but the biggest thing I noticed and didn't like right away was the controls. R2 is your acceleration... What?????? Not only is it R2, but its so ridiculously uncomfortable to hold down R2 which is meant to be a trigger, not something held down continuously. Your ONLY other option is the right analog which you hold up for acceleration and down for brake/reverse.

There are no more challenges outside of the actual racing part of the game... The game is slow and boring, you race, go to menu, race, go to menu, maybe buy a part for your car, race... Boring, I have had the game a week I played the first 3 races and haven't put it back in since, big big big let down, not to mention the graphics are not even close to the capability's the ps3 has...

A Wreck!

Instead of improving on a great formula, EA decided to go in a whole new direction by making the latest Need For Speed politically correct. Gone are the races through the city streets and the chases by the police. Instead, what EA has given us is an uninspired track racing game with a racing announcer whose voice and repetitiveness begins to grate on one's nerve like fingernails on a chalkboard. I found myself bored after only an hour of play and eventually lost all interest in playing this game.
Everyone makes mistakes, and EA is no exception. Hopefully they will return to what works and the next Need For Speed installment will make us all forget about the nightmare known as Need For Speed Pro Street.

this game sucks

I don't know why this game is getting such low marks... I guess it's because they are by people who play to its fullest every single NFS game that comes out! The Underground series was cool because I was in middle school and stuff... Most wanted is, to me, the best NFS game out there... I got carbon and hated it...played one day of it then sold it...I know i am contradicting my beliefs here, but I got it for PS2 and got Prostreet for my new PS3...
Prostreet is something a little different that nobody (here on amazon) is giving a full chance to play out! 15 minutes should not be enough time to judge AN ENTIRE GAME!

just my opinion though...

A Downgrade?

Being such hardcore fan of the series, would not sound fair to hear this review. But, this time, I have complaints. Maybe because PS3's career has barely started, maybe because the developers are still enjoying from the previous NFS games enormous success, this was not exactly what i've expected. At least for the price we are forced to pay.

This games looks like it was born and designed for a Playstation 2, with only gorgeous-detailed graphics on an OK variety of cars as the only "improvement", which CANNOT be taken that seriously as a new console's smash hit like it happened when "NFS: most wanted" first came out. Plus, the number of races and places to go look all pretty much the same, it only gets harder as the games goes forward. Nice introduction of realistic damages (they remind me a lot of "Colin McRae Rally" and the recent "Dirt"). The soundtrack is the worst of the series, and very limited too.
The coolest part is as usual the improvements you can make on your ride, the paints and the 1/4 mile drag race, this time more present.

Overall, definitely not the greatest of the whole series, but it is still quite enjoyable as a race game.
It is obvious the challenge of this title versus the Xbox's 360 "Forza" series, but looking at the current titles of racing games for PS 3, you won't have much choice anyway. Bought it brand new, I would recommend you'd get an used copy and wait to spend on a real hit in the future.

Not fun

I played several NFS over the time. First NFS to ProSreet. This is one Need For Speed that you want skip it, like NFS Porshe Unleashed. At first, the game its cool but comes bored after 30 minutes. My recommendation, wait for Gran Turismo 5.
