IS TOO SHORT

I FINISH THIS GAME IN 2 HOURS OF GAME PLAY IS TOO EASY AND TOO SHORT. THE GRAPHICS ARE GOOD BUT I LIKE GAMES WITH MORE PLAY TIME. IF I`M GOIN TO SPEND 45 OR 50 DOLARS ON A GAME AT LEAST I WANT 6 OR 8 HOURS OF GAME PLAY WITHOUT GET BORING PLAYING.

Like fireworks: Looks great, exciting for a while, but fizzles out quickly

I got the PSP God of War Entertainment Pack - Red as a warranty replacement for my original PSP Daxter Entertainment Pack - Ice Silver. I was looking forward to playing Chains of Olympus, as this was my first experience with the series. I own a PS2, but never bothered to pick up the two console God of War titles.

I've played several PSP games now, and Chains of Olympus LOOKS great. It's possibly the best-looking game for PSP, and as a result, it's a shame that Ready at Dawn will not be making any more for the system. However, that's just about all Chains of Olympus has going for it.

The storyline is sub-par, combining a weak understanding of Greek mythology with a tired tale of deception and revenge. However, this is an action game, so story can be overlooked somewhat in favor of actual gameplay quality. The game is fun for a while, but as you progress through the game you earn spells, most of which are useless, new moves and a new weapon. Once you obtain these, certain moves can be repeatedly spammed to kill just about everything, including bosses. At this point, the fun of the game slowly dies as this formulaic strategy nearly always works and is practically required to beat God mode, the highest difficulty. There is no penalty for dying in the game, which is good, but before almost every boss fight there is an cutscene that can't be skipped. On higher difficulties, this becomes very irritating, as it may take several strategies before you figure out the boss' Achilles heel.

On completing the game, which takes 4-6 hours at most, you earn God mode and can take on special challenges that are at best repetitive and frustrating and at worst mindlessly easy. Beating the challenges and the hardest difficulty unlock new costumes and a small amount of behind-the-scenes content, very little of which is worth suffering through the same horrible plot and repetitive gameplay for, not to mention that you would then have to play through the game a third time to enjoy the new costumes. I felt no compulsion to replay the game a third time, and I only played a second time so I could unlock everything.

Anything below God mode difficulty (the hardest) is quite easy, and God mode simply requires you to perform the same moves over and over again with better precision and timing than before. Some of the challenges are also difficult, but there isn't much of a sense of accomplishment after beating the hard ones, as all you typically need to do is find out which special move fits the situation best and use it over and over again, just like in the actual game. The game itself also contains a few puzzles, but for students of action/adventure games with more difficult 3D puzzles, such as any recent installment of the Legend of Zelda series, they're trivial and hardly worth mentioning, useful only to break up the action.

I don't think there's any reason to buy this game until it's in the bargain bin, or at the very least in the Greatest Hits series. Better yet, rent it and in a week you'll get everything out of the game you could possibly want. With no online play and very limited unlockables, the game's replay value is near nonexistent. I'm glad I got it as a pack-in rather than paying full price for it.

It's also worth mentioning, for those with no familiarity with the series, that this is not a game parents should be purchasing for young children. The brutal violence and small amount of nudity didn't turn me off at all, but could be a bit disturbing for kids.

Pretty good...

Of course this game is good- hell, it's God of War. But, but but but... the game is pretty short. As most will tell you, the storyline is pretty weak. But all in all, it's pretty awesome. GOW 1 was, in my opinion, the best. GOW 2 had the best storyline, but the levels weren't as good as the first. Plus, GOW 2 was shorter than the first.

But, as for the PSP version, if you like GOW (if you don't then you hate video games and puppies) then I say buy it- if you have a PSP. GOW 3 is coming out on PS3, which sucks because the writers are basically telling you to go buy a PS3. Don't get me wrong, it's cool that it's on PS3, but like other games (i.e. WWE games) I think they should ALSO release GOW 3 on PS2. Like most people, I have bills, etc. to pay so I really don't have money to run out and blow on a PS3- especially for one game.

In conclusion, I think if God of War never came out until PSP, this would be a 5-star- but since we've seen what God of War can do, I can't give it a 5 star. Very good game, though, but still lacking in places. The Gauntlet Glove and Efreet are friggon amazong thought.... :)

Excellent graphics but there are not different things to do only kill enemies and collect things

I hope more about this game. It has a excellent graphic and scenarios but you cannot go everywhere only to designated areas. There are not really to do, only kill enemies and get light balls. Dexter is really better and interesting to play.

A Great Achievement for the PSP....

This is the best game for PSP right now (I think Crisis Core will be better) I just finished the game (credits are still rolling) and I must say, while it is a great game, and God of War for a handheld is nothing short of a miracle (considering what garbage the PSP has had in its day) I just felt like it was missing a lot from the first 2 parts for the ps2.

The first thing that disappointed me were the bosses. I'm not going to spoil anything here, but to me the bosses didnt seem as vast or as well planned out for this version compared to the PS2 versions. The biggest disappoint for me was the fact that I beat the game in 7 hours. It took me a while to beat God of War 1 when I first played through it, and I guess I was expecting the same for Chains of Olympus. There isnt much swimming or underwater puzzles/exploration, so I was kinda disappointed in that as well as the controls being a bit tricky at points, but those are minute in the big picture.

I felt like getting the negativity out of the way. I do know why the game is only 7 hours long. It looks pretty darn similar to the GoW for PS2. The camera, at times, is a pain, but when the camera zooms in/out when youre walking down the bridge or walking against the wall to get through a tight space, it totally reminds you of the first 2 GoW's and you marvel in the glory of this game. With the whole control scheme of PS2 basically using all of the buttons, I would like to commend Ready at Dawn for their choice of controls in this game. Nothing like I would have expected. Some of the puzzles in the game definitely make you think outside of the box, and may frustrate folks who have not played the series before, but pretty moderate for GoW vets.

This game goes above and beyond what I thought the PSP was capable of. The game is beautiful, the sound is beautiful, and the load times are almost non existent. I would HIGHLY recommend this game to anyone who has a PSP as it is the best game out there for it at the moment. I know I'm going to catch some slack for it, but I gave it 4 stars ( really I would have liked to give 4.5 but you cant do it on amazon)because it was really short and for 40 dollars I can purchase one of many games that are 40-60 hours. Now I need to wait for GoW 3 and I hope they blow the first 2 out of the water with that one.

WAAAY too short

This is the first time I've ever been compelled to actually create a review of something on Amazon. And this one will be short and to the point.

I'm a big fan of the God of War series. I've loved the previous two PS2 games. I would give this game a solid 5 stars for its actual content. (Though I sure wish they allow camera control in this series.) However, I was utterly disappointed by the fact that I had completed the game in only about 10 hours of playtime, on Hero (Normal) level. I may go back and try it on the God (very difficult) level, but I've already seen everything, so I don't know if the urge is really there.

In short, this game unfortunately falls well shy of the "killer app" status that it was supposed to achieve because it can be finished in 3-4 short sessions, or one really long one, I suppose. The short duration of the game keeps me from being able to rate it 5 stars. In fact, I'd probably drop it to 3.5 if that were possible.

Please be aware of this when you're ready to shell out your cash, and know what you're getting.

I must say this game shows great examples of scale; when your fighting colossal reptiles to climbing a massive cliff in the heart of Tartarus you feel the sense of power the environs emit. I'm not gonna lie, I initially strayed form the God of War franchise for awhile. Chains of olympus is the first GoW game I've played simply because I own a PSP. Man have I been missing out since God of War first came out for the PS2. Thankfully Chains is a prequel to both God of war and God of war 2! The action and violence in this game is comparable to Ninja Gaiden for the XBOX. Blood splattering and demon slaying from start to finish with this game. You can chain all kinds of brutal combos with weapons like Zuess' gauntlet and of course the blades of Chaos. I couldn't really follow the story much, every level has alot going on regardless if your trying to figure out a puzzle something in the backround is happening. I have to reccomend this game to any die-hard action fan or gamer in general. The only thing wrong besides a camera that can sometimes get funky on ya' is the fact that the game is WAAAY to short. Beat it in a few days :(

This is why you buy a PSP

So what are my impressions with God of War? Well I am now about 3/4 of the way thru and I must say that I am impressed. I never really got a chance to GoW on the PS2 and now I am seeing what I am missing. The controls are tight and doesn't take a lot of getting used to. The graphic are excellent for a portable device and not a lot of clipping can be seen. I even have a cable that runs to my HDTV and it's not bad at all. The storyline with Kratos helping the gods and trying to atone for murdering his family is so far done well as the voice acting...this game may convince me to get a PS2 so that I can play the orginals and get the full story. If I have any complaints about the game so far is that altho rare, some of the puzzles are not so obvious to solve (but then it wouldn't be a puzzle right? LOL) or better to say that difficulty raises and drops during the game. Also, sometimes it get difficult to find your correct path even when soem paths need you to double back. But otherwise, this is really one of the best games on the PSP right now and probably the reason why a lot more will be sold. On a sacle of 1 to 5 it get 4.5 stars.

only gave four stars because the game was too short!!

This game was really fun and not too hard to beat. I'm a hard core gammer and it only tolk me 3 days to beat this game. It has a great story and the graphics are great. I think this game should only be $29.99 because it's soo short. But other than that I recommend this game to everyone.
