Don't buy this version unless you want the case

That bonus disc of making of featurettes that comes with this version of Halo 2 is not very enlightening or very cool. It is not worth the extra $5. However, the cool silver case may be worth the extra $5 to some people, and if you're one of those people, then sweet! You got the cool case!

The silver case is fun, but the game is already awesome as awesome gets. I just thought the bonus DVD was lame.

Wow.... this was amazing, but Halo 3 has to appear soon!!!

Halo 2 was the game people have been ranting and raving about for 2 years now. Everything you heard about Halo 2 was good, and man were they all right. Halo 2 is probably the greatest game I have EVER played, and when I picked this one up Tuesday Nov. 9 I was literally shaking, so excited to play this. I own the original Halo and at the time I thought this was the greatest game ever, and now it's sequel owns that title. Now on to the great things about Halo 2...

1. Graphics- THEY ARE AMAZING!!! The graphics in this game truly outwit any other game I have seen before, and they are incredibly stunning. One level that I particularly find the best looking is Delta Halo. The tropical atmosphere of this level is so cool, and the water is purely beautiful, it is by far one of my favorite levels in the game.

2. Music- THE MUSIC IS ALSO AMAZING!!! and much, much better than Halo:C.B. There's music in this game for when your in the heat of battle and kickin the Covenant's ass, and there's also music for when the game starts to get a bit deep into the storyline, and it tends to sound a bit sad. There's music for when your fighting along side your men gloriously, and there's music for when the battle is being won. My personal favorite is in the beginning of Delta Halo.

3. Gameplay- ....just really cool.. believe me.

4. Storyline- How can people say the story is less detailed than HALO!?? Halo was a game where you knew what was going on, but so much was left out, and you just wonder wtf is going on on this planet!? Well, in Halo 2, all that and more is answered. The story takes a perspective on both sides,(the covenant, Earth's army) and has quite a suspenseful turn of events near the middle of the game. Overall, the story is perfect, and you really feel like your watching a movie sometimes, only to be thrust into a vast war between the forces of the covenant and Earth's army. However, look for a strange bond of arms near the end of this game...

5. The Ending- Now I will not spoil the ending because all of you who havent bought this game.. go now, right now, buy the damn thing already! and if you dont have an X Box, screw gamecube or PS2(even though I have it and love it), buy it!However, I have seen lots of complaints about the ending, and the game itself and how long it is. Yes, this game is pretty short, at least it certainly feels like it is. The levels also do not seem to be as long. Although, hey, I can deal, the gameplay makes up. Secondly, about the ending, I thought it was good, and ended in a very cool way. Especially after the credits... I wonder what will happen to Cortana, and what's she gonna spill? The whole ending makes a very horrible want for Halo 3, believe me guys, I thought I was about to go into some giant earth battle, instead the game ended right in my face. Although, it was a good ending when I think about it.

Overall, Halo 2 kicks ass, all the fancy new stuff you can do is awesome, and just go buy this, because you'll truly love it.

Not at all as good as the first one

Ok, I will be the first one to say it: Halo 2 is nowhere as good as the first Halo. Halo was definitely a revolutionary game, way ahead of its time. The outdoor levels and the controls for the vehicles were both excellent. And there it was, the first FPS with an interesting story! So, pressure was high on Bungie to make a worthy sequel.

And they tried. They proudly announced how the graphics are improved, the story will be even better, you will be able to dual-wield and drive multiple vehicles, there will be better and smarter enemies and so on.

But now, when we get to play the game, all this is very different.

First of all, the graphics. On an HDTV, there really is not that much of a difference between the two games (still only 480p support). While the graphics are slightly better in Halo 2, they are not as good as Fable, for example.

Level Design. Instead of listening to the complaints about the repetitive indoor levels, there are double as many now. They are even more confusing than in Halo 1. First game's main attraction were the huge outdoor levels. Halo 2 simply does not have enough of those. Too many indoors and too many using only one color: gray!

Weapons. A lot of good additions, but very soon you realize dual wielding is not what you thought it would be. Any top Halo player will make no use of dual wielding, because a good one hand weapon and grenades will always be better. Yes, there are now nice additions (energy sword, alien sniper rifle), but most of the new additions are useless. Probably the best new thing here is that you can ask your teammates for their weapons, making it easy to get the weapons you need.

AI. I am shocked by this, but it seems to be worse than in the first game. For most of the time, most aliens will not acknowledge your presence until you smack them in the head. It works though, because they are in double the numbers, so quantity wins in front of quality.

Yes, your teammates are definitely smarter - they can even drive now, but overall, there does not seem to be an improvement in the AI. On the contrary.

First game was also more strategic - different sitautions could have been approached differently, depending on your style of gaming. Here the number of enemies had doubled, game speed has increased, which means you can only play this like any other FPS: no thinking required.

Story. Why would anybody be interested to play as other character than MC, I do not know. The story and voice acting are pretty bad - B-quality. I would have to say, again Halo 1 was better here. The in-game movies are terrible - look like 5 years ago.

Multiplayer. They got overly zealous with redoing some of the maps (Blood Gulch, being one) and the results are not as great. Again, it is all about blowing stuff up and less about strategy. Vehicles handle also differently - with less sliding for most of them. You can board some of the vehicles, but it really has no use, because if you are that close to board the vehicle, then you are close enough to fire your shotgun and get the vehicle anyway.

Overall, I do not feel like Halo 2 was worth the wait. The game plays less than Halo 1 and more like Unreal minus the castles. Some of the levels are so annoying, it will be difficult to make them enjoyable a second walk through the game.

Regardless of my review, this game already sold more than 3 million copies, which proves once again how important a PR machine is. Rent or buy at your own risk.

Cough, cough, That's it?!?!?!

Is it me or are game manufacturer's trying to rob us? A lot of us have waited years for Halo 2 to come out, dealing with the constant pushing back of the release date. We have all seen the movies, the screen shots and we were all drooling but much like Microsoft's Fable, Halo 2 doesn't live up to the hype.
The graphics are very nice, there is mroe detail to the enviroments, characters and so on. Sound effects and music are pretty good. You can clearly hear what the covenant are saying to you or each other. Controls are decent except for the whole dual wielding thing. Sometimes you want to pick up one Plasma Rifle to replace another and you pick up something else that you didn't want and wasn't even near you at the time. They added some new weapons, Convenant carbine(useless), Coveneant sniper rifle(not bad), energy sword(very nice especially against Flood and Brutes) and a few others. They also put in a few new vehicles. Cut scenes are great.
Now you are probably wondering by now what I'm b$%hing about? The game is too dang short!!!! The first time I played I beat it on HARD in five hours. FIVE HOURS! Come on, the first Halo took a lot longer than that and that was on easy! It's like they thought "Gee let's make the game look pretty, throw in a few new weapons, vehicles, aliens and a short story and we have our game". Then to top it off, they leave the game open for a Halo 3. What the heck? They don't give us decent story length and to top it off they are going to make us shell out money for a Halo 3 when they could have made Halo 2 just as long as the first Halo if not a little longer. Boy, we got scre%$d.
So overall, it's a decent game but like most sequels(movies, games, books, etc.) ever made it falls short of the first one. So if you want as pretty game to play with hardly ANY game length to it Halo 2 is the game. But if you are looking for a worthy sequel, save your money.

Halo 2 will be Game of the Year

I just finished playing Halo 2, for tonight...and I must say I'm incredibly impressed. The Gameplay itself is much like the original, but there are newer and better weapons, the vehicles are enhanced, the graphics are gorgeous, and the A.I. is smarter. The covenant are given more personality, and through the story line you get some cool insights into the structure of their society. Somewhat early on in the game, you get a big unexpected surprise in the Gameplay. This surprise is something new brought to the table. Very cool. You'll know what it is when you get there ;) Halo 2 is basically the original X 3. If you love the original Halo, you will love this one.

Greatest game ever!

Halo 2 is a great game and you should not be discouraged by negative reveiws. If you don't think the levels are big then you must not have even looked. The story is a bit confusing but just think back on it and you will (eventually) figure it out. But if you think the Colecters Edition has tons of halo 2 stuff you're sadly, sadly mistaken, it just has a dvd, "convesations from the universe" booklet, a free 2 month trial membership to Xbox Live (may be in regular edition), and the aluminum case.
Overall it's best if you have Xbox Live.

Good Sequel

Halo 2 is nothing short of being impressive. It has a fair single player campaign and a fun online mode. If you have a lot of friends that have Xbox Live then you'll probobly want to pick this one up since it's the most popular Live game. If you plan on playing single player only then you might want to rent this one first. Graphicly, the game is good, however the textures are a bit weak. At the end of the day, it's hard to go wrong with Halo 2 if you have Xbox Live, if not, you may want to consider buying it.

stop crying and play it on Legendary

This is the most awesome game ever (period).
The Multiplayer is revolutionary, HALO raised the bar and HALO 2 raised it further.
everyone who is crying about how short it is played it on Easy or Normal. If you play this game on Heroic or Legendary, its a totally different story. On Normal where there are two grunts and a flower pot, on Legendary there are 10's of high ranking sword carrying Elites and Hunters. There are parts of the game where its impossible to get through on Legendary. When you finish it on Legendary then come write your reviews.
The Multiplayer is amazing, I can leave voice mails and do all sorts of neat stuff. GREAT JOB BUNGIE!
