A good pad

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 23 / 26

This pad will get the job done for DDR Ultramix. The buttons are sensitive enough for the game and it has a decent amount of padding. It's very similar to the soft Konami pad that came bundled with DDR Ultramix.

However, there are a few cons to the pad. First, it's recognized as a regular controller on Xbox Live. Also, the ports at the top of the pad do not support the headset (which the Konami pad does). It will only take memory cards. So if you want to play online, you are better off with the Konami pad that came with the game (which you cannot buy more of).

However, these are great for extra pads when you have friends over. Personally, I bought two of them so I could then "mod" them by giving them a hard cover. I did this with plexiglass squares and a hardboard. Directions to do this can be found with a search for "DDR Chubby Pad" on the internet.

I came out with two really nice pads that will last a long time.

Decent Soft Pad

Seems like a decent soft pad, although it wouldn't kill them to put some velcro strips on the bottom. The foam padding seems more suited to a hardwood floor than carpet. I have to rearrange the pad after every dance because while it doesn't move to any unsafe degree, it will slowly migrate across a carpet. Also, the center feels the same as the buttons, so in the more hectic dances you have no way of feeling where your feet are (with some of the more expensive pads, you can feel the buttons with your feet and know where you are).

Still, I have no trouble with the responsiveness and didn't really see a soft pad that looked to be better. My suggestion: start with something like this (the game I got did not come with any pad, so I bought this one) and if you feel the DDR craze, pony up the cash for a hard, arcade quality pad and keep this one for when the guests come over.

Great cheap pad

If your looking to spend the least possible to get an actual dance pad, then this ones for you. This pad is basically the generic standard for the xbox and ps2 ddr games. The pad serves the purpose and works quite well. So far, it has not missed any step of mine. The reason it doesnt get 5 stars is becuase it does slip quite often on a carpet, but this can be solved by duct taping it to a hard plastic carpet pad (I dont know what its called, its the thing you put on the ground so you can roll your chair on it). It also can bunch up when you play on the harder difficulties with more steps. Dont use shoes with this pad, use only socks. I dont recommend bare feet cause it can result in some nasty blisters.

If your looking to mod this pad and make it into an "arcade" pad, go here: http://ucsub.colorado.edu/~geddes/chubbypad/ All in all, I am pleased with this pad because its cheap and gets the job done. If your looking to invest some time (and money) into a pad, go with the red octane pad which runs around 100 bucks. Its a lot better and a lot eaiser on the feet. Dont use shoes with this pad, use only socks. I dont recommend bare feet cause it can result in some nasty blisters.

Couldn't be better

Outside of the pads at the arcade or putting down over $100 for a solid pad, this is the best out there. The pads are very responsive and have a nonskid surface on the bottom so they don't slip around. Great buy!

Horrible.

This pad is simply horrible. I've only had it for 3 weeks and already the down arrow doesn't register. When I hit the left arrow it thinks I'm pressing B. It often gives boos and almosts when I hit the arrow directly on time. It is a much better idea to buy the Ultramix and dancepad bundle when you get the game then to buy a different pad afterwards.

much better than the original

The fact that it doesn't slip around like the first makes it totally worth it. The light up feature is a good addition, but its the non-slip grip that makes it worth getting. A must buy for at home DDR fans.

Good purchase for an extra dance pad

This dance pad was good for the price. I would like to be able to purchase another Konomi dance pad, but have been unable to find somewhere to purchase one. I haven't had any errors with this dance pad yet, but the lights at the top of the pad are a little ridiculous. At any rate, this is a fine purchase for an additional dance pad.

LOVE IT!!!

I love these pads, but mine do not light up. Where is it supposed to light up at? Please send email response to chris@thebondster.com. The pads do slip on some kinds of carpet, but overall they are very good and durable, im looking to purchase 2 more to add to my collection.
