Solid Story Line + Poorly Executed Concept = Painful Waste of Time

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 1 / 5

ME attempts to build a real-time RPG and shooter into one game stealing concepts first seen in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Amazing game). ME's combat system is convoluted and slow, the conversion/interaction is slow and mostly fruitless, the story line is enjoyable but slowly delivered. I can't say I played the game for more than an hour or two before re-selling it.

not what I expected

I beat the game in 14 hours
sadly it was not even close to Oblivion or Morrowind or even KOTOR
yes the graphics where great and the story was good but ....
i wanted to explore the galaxy...beef up my charactor...find a bar and get drunk......it was a good game nothing spectacular in my book
Bioshock wipes it off the map

The most realistic sex acts ever concieved?

I don't know about you guys, but when I picked up Mass Effect I was expecting your typical, run-of-the-mill Bioware RPG. What I wasn't ready for is the depths of carnal desire I encountered in this game. I started up the game and immediately plunged into the most realistic sex acts ever concieved.

"Wow!" was all I could say. "Now I can watch in crystal clear, LCD, 54 inch screen, HD clarity as video game characters hump in every form, format, multiple, and gender-oriented possibility I can think of!"

Imagine that! And all from a video game!

I think what most struck me about Mass Effect is the potential it has to convert me singlehandedly from immoral video gamer to proto-serial killer/rapist with the ability to customize the game to sodomize whatever, whoever, however I wish. I mean, if the Barbie doll-like alien women in this game should be forced to submit to my perverted desires, what's to stop me from believing that women in the real world should be forced to do the same? How could anybody object?

Absolutely, incredibly stunning. Virtual orgasmic rape never had it so good. A definitely recommended buy.

Awful Follow-Up to KOTOR

Let me say Knights of the Old Republic is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. The way they meshed turn-based combat with real time was a revelation that no game has since matched. But this game was boring as hell. I played it for over 5 hours, and all it seemed to me was a running simulator with a bad third person shooter mechanic thrown in. Sure, the conversation mechanic was interesting for the first 10 minutes or so, but after a while it was like watching a movie I had to also direct, instead of just enjoying it. Generic sci-fi themes also abounded, lacking the cohesiveness of the Star Wars universe for an underlying premise. I would say Bioware is great at interpreting a story that has already been realized for them, but awful at trying to come up with an original concept, AND executing it in an interesting fashion.

Not worth the money.

Wasted money. Great if you like role playing and want to be bored to death.

i have wasted 3 days of my life playing this pointless boring game i do not know what everyone sees in this game i kept playing just thinking it would get better but no it doesnt the graphics are great but the gameplay sucks you just have to stand there during endless talking scenes and when it is over guess what here comes another talking scene you feel like you are playing a movie rather than a video game please rent this game before you buy it i am so glad that i did .thanks for reading

This game left me so disappointed that I am selling it and getting out of the xbox 360 platform entirely. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I don't think so because compared to another recent game (Uncharted on the PS3), ME pales in comparison. I am not going to bash Mass Effect. My intent here is to temper other people's expectations. Mass Effect is probably a decent game for anyone who has already burned through the best 360 games out there. It is not, in the opinion of this reviewer, the best game ever. It isn't even as *fun* as my other xbox Bioware favorites of Jade Empire and Kotor. My advice is to buy a PS3 and get Uncharted. Why? Because you pay and play these games for the fun of it and for my gaming dollar and time, the PS3 with Uncharted offers much more of both.

Great Story, Horrible Combat

Probably the absolute WORST combat manuevers ever. Player is slow to move; squad members do not listen to commands; game is riddled with bugs. One of the most annoying characteristics is that you cannot fast-forward through much of the talking sequences.

A good game, but not as good as the hype says.

I have already finished the single player, but not all the side quests. I'm not a big fanboy of RPG's but I have played a few. Mass Effect is a good game by all means, but not all its hyped up to be. Set in a futuristic setting, the story will pull you in and is very interesting. Some of the voice acting was iffy for me though, just not as good as I would like. The story got a bit confusing at some points, but was still good. The action is pretty good, but feels like a toned down version of Gears of War, sometimes a little slow. Overall, if your a fan of RPG's then get this game, but some people might have to look at it more carefully because it is definitely not perfect.

Great game!!

A great Game. Just be ready for a TON of dialoge. It's so well written that it is a pleaseure not a chore. The universe is deep and inviting and the characters are distinct. The inventory and equipment interface are a bit ponderouse but function just fine. The MAKO vehicle drives like an 8yr old kid with ADHD that just smoked a bunch of crack but you get used to it. All in all it is one of the best RPGs on any system.
