I purchased the stand alone software because I have the wireless guitar from GH3 already. I've heard that there's issues with the rock band guitar so I guess I'm glad I didn't buy the special edition. I am thinking about picking up the drums though. Anyways, I have to say that this game is really awesome. I like the new format with square notes rather than the circle ones and it seems like the timing is better. I've found that I'm able to hit the notes more consistently than in GH3. Also, I have to say that the track list is far superior than any of the GH games. I've played through the solo career mode already and I'm getting ready to start playing the multiplayer. I've only played it on medium thus far and I think that it was a little too easy compared to GH; I'm probably going to start trying to play the songs on hard or expert mode next. One thing I didn't like about this game is that you have to play all 5 tracks for each show before moving onto the next ones. The nice thing about GH was that you only had to play 4 of 5 so if there was a really awful song, you could just skip it. There was a couple of shows in ROck band that I didn't really care for even one of the songs or really disliked one but you have to play them all. This is probably not a big deal for some people who play all the songs no matter what but it was a little bit annoying to me.

Anyways, I can say that this game is definately worth picking up and I think it's far superior to GH3

Lots of fun.

I bought this w/o the instruments because I already have the GH guitar, and I read all the troubles with the RB guitar. Funny thing is, so far I have spent more time singing than playing guitar. It is really fun. This is a really great game if you have an interest in music, or just dream of being a rock star.

ONE BLAST NIGHT

Last night 11/20/2007 (The Release Date) a new band in the City came into form.
My band called 'Daband' consists of me as Drummer and my Wife as guitarist. We both sing our favorite songs and some time hire few extra AI musician while we are on lead singing position. Our living room has become band room. Pretty soon we will seek more members to join our band and other band in my city to compete with. ROCK ON!

The whole day at work I've been thinking about the future of 'Daband'

<< I wrote this small autobiography to tell you that how exciting and entertaining this game is ... it takes me back to my childhood dreams of becoming a ROCK STAR>>

Great game, not exactly party friendly

This game is incredible. The song list is solid, not everyone is a favorite, but there are enough true classics and a few that surprised me and I now really enjoy.
The game plays well (of course). If you don't know, or are worried, the Guitar Hero Controllers work with Rock Band, so if you already have one (or two) don't fret (ha!). Also, the headset that comes with most Xboxes can work for the vocalist. It's not as satisfying as holding one in your hand, but if you wanna rock on the cheap, it will do.

Now, as for the "Career" section. it is pretty cool to create your rocker and go on tour and grow your fanbase. Especially cool are the "mystery setlists" where you will play multiple songs in a row, and even get a chance to 'take requests'. Not Bad. the collaborative scoring is inventive and it really does pay off to play together and not just as individuals.

The character creation is very satisfying, plenty of options to design a character or two that personify your rock personality. Getting a chance to see them perform is strangely thrilling, if not very entertaining.

Speaking of performance, whoever designed the background visuals for this deserves a freaking award. I actually get a taken in by how awesome the "virtual" band's performance is, its pretty compelling to watch your singer stage dive and keep singing while he's getting surfed over the crowd. or the slow motion power slide that your character does. The visuals blow Guitar Hero away, without question.

Now for my one gripe. This isn't as "party friendly" as Guitar Hero. Simply because so much emphasis is put in the career aspect that it having a party and having people jump in is not as easy as it should be. If i'm hanging out with my friends, we want to play a few of the songs (some of which are only accessed towards the end of career/tour mode). If you don't have saved character/band/career, you can only access the first ten or so (i didn't count exactly) songs available in the game.

I would recommend beating the game right away and that way whenever you wanna have fun as a group, one of you login as that saved name. But aside from that just remember not to wake the neighbors.

A must have for any music fan!

First off, the only reason I didn't give this game 5 stars was because it doesn't come with the guitar unless you buy the full package for $[...], which is muy lame! Anyways, the game itself is an absolute blast! There is so much fun to be had playing this game that cramming it all into this review won't even come close to doing it justice. Multiplayer is awesome and should be experienced by all! My only real gripe with the game is its lack of hardcore rock tracks from bands like Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, Buckcherry, Sevendust, etc. Other than that the game is great!

My 16 year-old son and his friends play this game endlessly on the weekends. Even his father gets involved sometimes! It's challenging and great fun for everyone.

So much fun!

I bought this as a gift for my BF, ended up playing it more than he has! I know so many of the songs, and its just endless enjoyment. Rock on. Our xbox 360 Guitar Hero III wireless guitars work great!

This is so much fun. I feel like a real rock and roll star. I don't have the drums, but that doesn't mean I can't pretend, right? I like to think that one day I'll get the drums and then I can pretend I'm Phil Collins, and I can sing and drum at the same time. If only there were some Genesis songs.

And I don't mean Sega Genesis.

This game easily ranks top 3 in the greatest and most fun games I have ever played! Rock band does a fantastic job of immersing you into the game and making you feel like you're a Rock Star! The game offers a wide variety of genres (anything from classic rock to punk) in its 58 unlockable songs! Plus it has a great number of songs that can be downloaded via the Xbox live marketplace, which is updated with new songs nearly every week! Rock band is also one of the most excellent games for playing with friends. If you love listening to rock music like I do, and you want to feel like a Rock Star, this game is a must have!

Pretty Good Fun

I only bought the game as we had already purchased Guitar Hero 3 for XBox 360 and had 2 guitars. My son says that Guitar Hero 3 is more challenging in terms of guitar playing but that the songs on Rock Band probably have a broader appeal. He likes both though. I have since ordered the drums to go along with this game. We have not experienced any bugs or glitches playing this game so far.
