no too bad

First off, stop reading into all the hype. this is not a 1 star game. to get the best impression, download the demo on xbox live, and test it out yourself.

First, the good-
1- the scenematics, feel and scale in this game are exellemt... example; when you emerge from an office building and can see down a few city blocks.... and have to battle your way through all types of mayhem. you really feel like your in the story. really done well. like playing in an action movie. 5 out of 5.
2- the graphics are decent. the scenery and lighting are done very well. the "art direction" of the charactors wasnt the best choice... and is why most are saying the "graphics" are bad. dont confuse graphics and art direction. overall... its like having a realy nice world and filling it with cut and paste assets... 3 out of 5.
3- Sound... was appropriate. not done bad. 4 out of 5.

Now the bad-
1- story. i dont expect a video game to win an academy ward. but, the story was fragmented. started off good, then ended up blending in too many outside elements... didnt stick to the theme. not as good as a cod4, but not as bad as say a Final Fantasy (fan boys stay calm). 2 out of 5.
2- weapon selection. so you have a big budjet action game all about killing and blowing stuff up... and you limit it with a "small" selection of weapons. horrible choice. these are hit men, where was the sniper rifle? 2 out of 5.
3- AI.... of enemies and squadmates... not always up to speed. enemies will use cover... that was cool, but they wouldnt do much beyond that.
4- cover system... yeah... should have been mapped to a button... the automatic cover... never worked when you needed it to, and work too good when you didnt want to hide. 1 out of 5.

finally, the undecided-
1- the f bomb... it was like watching pulp fiction... and i think its the first time a game has used language as colorful as a hollywood picture... which is why it stands out so much. if i were kane and lynch... how would i talk? probrably just like they do in the game... like samuel jackson in a room full of sailers.

so, i think this game is a solid 3. its fun to play. allot of fun, but after games like gears of war and graw... you want your mayhem to look allot better, not just sound dirty. the game wasnt polished... at all... i believe it was rushed. a little more time and effort would have yealded waaay better results. if you rent this... you will be happy. if you can borrow this game, even better... but, dont pay full price.

overhype does it again

I have only played through a few of the missions in story mode appears to be several levels easy (aspirin) medium (caffeine) and hard (??) graphics are okay not xbox 360 standards and I have been having fun playing through the missions and I have not played it online yet which is where this game is supposed to shine so I am basing my review on just the story mode. A lot of shooting but a rather predictable story line if you like shooting and blowing things up this definitely will be your game. I think this is an okay game but due to the overhype it received it turned out to be average and not worthy of all the attention it received pre-release. There is another game I am going to buy called americas army no pre-release hype so no big expectations for greatness it will probably be a fairly good realistic shooter as I had it on regular xbox and is a standard game which is fun. Which is exactly what this game is a standard game which if not for the excess marketing may have been a slightly above average game. If I could I would give it 3 and a half stars but no more.

Very dissapointed

I was looking forward to this game, but it turns out the controls are difficult and story and writing borderline on horrendous. There is something about dialog in which every other word is the F word, it doesn't scream 'quality writing' to me.

In my opinion, avoid this. Maybe they will take more time with the script with Kanye and Lynch 2.

Serious letdown

This is such a disappointing game. It's completely generic, the controls are awkward and the graphics look like something from last gen. Not even worth a rental.

think for yourself. play before you judge.

(before i begin, i must give a very big THANK YOU to XBM for including the Kane & Lynch demo on their magazine demo disk. after reading and watching all the horrible reviews i would have never even bothered to download the demo via XBL. i've learned a very important lesson though, never let other people/reviewers make a decision for you, experience things for yourself, because you never know....)
ok. so this game got really trashed for various reasons, most having to do with some fat reviewer on gamespot, a bunch of his cronies from various other magazines, and tons of mindless "gamers" who never even took the time to play the game. you know all about the stupid controversy, and if you want to learn more, search out gamespot or google. enough. time for my review:

K&L is all about throwing the player into his or her own Michael Mann wet dream. K&L are extremely dark characters, who are very much at home with killing, cussing, betrayal, and death. Kane is a man obsessed with revenge, and Lynch is a skitzo that has lost his mind.
If you are reading this review, you probably know all about the characters and story, so i wont go into detail about it. Just realize one thing: K&L is a character driven game. The thing that sets K&L apart from most all other shooters is that story is the most important feature in the game.
In a word, the game-play is "fun." you usually have a team of baddies with you and with the push of a button can command them to stay close, investigate a certain spot, or attack a specified area. this makes the game very easy to pick up and play and reminiscent of the creaters previous "Freedom Fighters" game.
besides taking care of your team another important thing to remember to do in k&l is to take cover. you can blind fire, or precision aim once you are safely crouched behind a wall or other such life saving barricade. k&l is positively NOT a run n' gun game. far closer to gears of war than to (i dunno, been a while since i played a typical shooter) serious sam, or the punisher?
the game takes you to many different geographical locations, the best being a u.s. airport, a tokyo dance club and on a bank heist.
there is also multiplayer in the game called "fragile alliance." as i do not have the XBL gold membership at this time, i cannot review this part of the game. the object from what i've read is to go in with a team, steal a large sum of money, then decide if you want to murder your partners & keep the loot to yourself, or let everyone live and share it.
K&L is a linear game, yet not to the point where you feel like you cannot use the environment to your benefit. if you see a busted up car far off somewhere, chances are you can run up to it and use it for cover.
many people have complained about the controls in k&l, so let me tell you exactly how it is. ever play hitman? ever play hitman and get so frustrated that you blow your cover and go on a shooting rampage? if you can remember how those controls and targeting system is, you have a (less detailed) idea of how the controls in k&l are. READ the manual. edit the controls to your liking!
no game is perfect and here are the problems i found while playing k&l:

1. hit detection could have used another couple of months work. i'll be firing half a clip off into a far away targets face and nothing happens!

2. cover system could also have used another couple of months work as well. sometimes, i'll try and take cover and absolutely how i fiddle with the coverage, nothing happens.

3. the later levels of K&L, although still gripping and fun, cannot hold a candle to k&l's earlier shootouts.

ultimately, k&l is a very fun, story driven, gritty, adult action game. k&l should definitely NOT be ignored and shunned like it has been, hence the reason why i've written this review.

Fun but definately with flaws.

I probably hyped this game up way too much in my mind, which is my own fault. This is not to say I was disappointed with the game, far from it. I think the game is fun, but I guess I was expecting more from the AI and the multiplayer.

Graphics are great, sound is very good, and the story is top notch. The gun fights can get pretty intense, but there are times when it seems the AI will leave their cover to go charging right into your hail of gunfire, or split up and take cover in incredibly bad spots that allow you to pick everyone off. Other than that, the game was fun and engrossing.

Let me say I love the concept of the multiplayer, but I do have gripes with it. I dislike that people's name and how much money they have float above their head all the time (unless crouched) and can be seen through walls. The reason I hate this is because when you have 7 players all huddled together, you can't see ANYTHING because of their names, especially if you're on a different height than they are, and it just clutters the screen. Second off, the police that attack you are limited, meaning it's way too easy to just pick off the AI enemies. The betral aspect is kinda fun, but if you betray people one round, they typically don't work together in the beginning of the next, rather just everyone going banana's and killing everyone within the first 10 seconds.

Not everything I hoped for...but I still love certain levels.

Nothing ground-breaking but some parts are fun. I was hoping for Hitman type quality. Over-hyped! However, there is one scene that is so sweet! The club scene..is like a scene from Collateral. It's sweet!
I have always wanted to do a heist..it's kind of a fantasy I have. This game really gives you that experience. Just like in the movie HEAT. The game is defiantly not for everyone. However, I have really begun to get into it. You need to see the game for what it is! What it's meant for or to be!Overall, it's a thrill ride! Nonstop action..of what I would love to do in real life...but can't. For all of you crime fans out there, this game rocks! It really shows that it's not ground-breaking.

I mean, think about it! If you were in the situations of Kane..you wouldn't want to run around and play with environments. This is far from a sandbox game! It's linear! However, if you ever want to live out scenes from the movie HEAT, this is for you! The club scene is great and the corporate building is even greater just like HEAT! You're walking out of the building hoping cops don't notice you...then silence breaks into gunfire in the streets.. This is a very adult orientated game...not for Halo nerds. I mean, if you like playing an unbelievable cartoonist game...stick with Halo. This game is what us adults have waited for.

5 Stars for being Co-op

So it takes time to get use to the weird controls, big deal. The difference between Kane/Lynch and those other "awesome" shooters (except for Halo)is the Co-op. My husband and I found it quite FUN going through the campaign together, better than one of us watching each other play an "awesome" game. It may be a different story if high speed internet was in my area of residence but it's not, so we settle for not so good graphics and poor AI just for the rare feature of co-op. So for Kane and Lynch I would spend my money for it even after playing.

Don't listen to the others

This game is amazing. Not only are the graphics and sound amazing, but the storyline is interesting. You just want to continue playing to see what will unfold itself next. To add another layer of excitement, the multiplayer mode Fragile Alliance is classic on so many levels. You can stick with the alliance to get a huge grab, or become a traitor and take it all for yourself. Either way, each time you play Fragile Alliance, the experience will differ from session to session.

i'd rather get in a traffic accident with a grease truck, a truck carrying laxitive-tested monkeys, and a truck carrying live charges of C4 and protein pills, then get trapped to smell the result. this game really is that bad. enjoy your $65.00 frisbee/coaster while it lasts, because even a homeless person would reject this on christmas day. I hope to get cancer before hoping to play this again. WOW.
