Works almost as well as a real PSX

Runs PlayStation games on the Mac -- a remarkable technical achievement, but with real PlayStations you may wonder what the point is (I think the point is that the Mac game market is so hopeless that emulation is the only practical option).

Don't buy if you don't meet minimal spec: any Mac that shipped with a G3 or better CPU (G3 upgrades *don't* count!). Faster CPU's are better.

Sony has sued Connectix and as of Nov 1999, Connectix is not permitted to update the software, currently at version 1.2.

Not all games work well with CVGS; some don't work at all (eg, "Final Fantasy VIII", "Crash Team Racing"). Connectix's web page lists games they've certified as playable -- there are also third party pages doing compatibility checks, including one I edit at the Macs Only! website (shameless plug!).

A must for Mac and Playstation owners

I've had a Playstation for years, and a Mac for far longer than that, and Virtual Game Station is a great way to play those PSX games on your computer. In fact, with most games, it's far better than the Playstation. One big plus is that Loading times are cut in half, if not more. Also, you basically get unlimited Memory Cards, instead of having to buy extra ones for your PSX. And the number of games that run well on it is impressive. Naturally, having a PSX-style gamepad is a major plus. I'm finding that I rarely play Playstation games on my Playstation anymore....why deal with the slow load-up times and memory card block shortage? All in all, a very exceptional product.

Virtual Game system is one of the best things to come to the Mac and Playstation. It works well with most American Playstation games and provides better quality than the Playstation overall. Worst part: will RARLEY lag on high perfomance games. But, this never really interferes with the game. It's a whole lot cheaper than buying a Playstation and it's worth the money with out a doubt!

Cheaper and Better than the Real Playstation

This is a Playstation emulator, a program that allows you to play a Playstation game on your computer without having a Playstation. Pros: --It runs faster than the real thing sice you have a fast CD drive and the PS has a quad speed

--This means that it runs smoother and that response time on the computer is faster

--It runs almost any game

--It's cheaper than the real thing

--No need to purchase memory cards as they are on your computer

Cons: --Certain games (such as Crash Team Racing) do not run on it, they are incompatible

--Some confusion over controls as you must set the controls for the emulator, as well as the in-game controls

All in all, I would say that this is well worth it. I mean, come on, one game that we bought doesn't run, but we saved that much in buying this over the actual thing. It runs faster, smoother, and has a better quality. One warning though, make sure you have a port on you rocmputer for the game pads or else you'll have to buy those as well. Even with its downsides, I'd say that THIS PROGRAM IS A MUST-HAVE

Have a Mac but no Playstation? Then get this. CVGS is by far the coolest gaming software to come to Macintosh. This product should be rated for everyone , not Mature becuase its suitable for everyone! You can get everygame for Playstation on it, just not PS2. You never have to buy memory cards because you can make new one!Two small bad things is that you can only have 1 game controller so player 2 must use the keyboard and its not portable. Also, you never have to install a game. And dont worry about freezes or reboots or viruses. This is completely hassle free! Seems to good to be true... WELL IT'S TRUE! Kids you'll love it! Parents; they'll love it and maybe you too! Well to sum it up; GET IT! Hope this review helps! (*^_^*)

I thought that it is a great product. This product makes gaming on the Macintosh more enjoyable because of the larger amount of games. The only downside is that not all games are supported.

A great buy, but still not perfect

I bought this for [price] over a year ago, and I must say, I was rather surprised when I could play Final Fantasy 7 and 8 almost flawlessly. The problems mainly were in FF8, where a few of the sounds (i.e. climbing ladders) and a few visuals (item and enemy selection in battles) -- were somewhat flawed. Otherwise, this was very good. The bad thing is that Connectix discontinued this product, likely because Sony filed multiple lawsuits against them. Oh well. It can run most games... Definitely not all, but I'm using it mostly for Square titles (FF7, FF8, FFT, and chrono cross work fine, FF9 and anthology do not)... and it's fine. The res switching is a bit annoying as well. It [stinks] that Connectix won't support it, anymore, though.

Great! It plays playstation games. Oops! Only works on AMERICAN iMacs.

Great for real OS 9; doesn't work on Classic Mode on OS X.

this software is great if you have an old Mac -- that is, one that runs OS 9 natively. it does *not* work, however, on OS X Classic Mode. on OS 9 it's fine; not perfect, but nearly as good as the real thing (worked on all my games, but supposedly problems on a few games).
