In the words of Lisa Simpson... meh...

This game isn't that great. It violates my one big pet peeve - repetition of the same challenge over and over if you don't get it right the first time. The best part about this game is the dialogue, but even that gets repetitive when you've repeated a level about 25 times. Also, it feels like the characters don't respond well to the controller, which means you are pressing those tiny DS buttons really hard and your hands get bad cramps. Last, in many cases there is absolutely no direction as to how you are supposed to complete the challenge, so you really end up doing it a ridiculous number of times (Lisa and the dolphins almost made me chuck the thing out the window!). If you want a good Simpsons game, I enjoyed the Xbox game "Hit and Run".

Really Great Game!

This is a really good game. Its funny, and interesting. The thing is this game is way to easy and has no challenge at all. So if you know your a experienced gamer then dont buy it if you like challenging games. But otherwise this game is great and highly recommended.

if you love the simpsons....

I'm going to be very blunt.
You cannot die in this game. There are unlimited lives. Some of the levels get pretty difficult and frustrating. (So unlimited lives is a good thing. But leaves no REAL challenge.)
The animations are good and the dialogue is funny and its pretty easy to just pick the game up and start playing. There are quite a few unlockables. And a really cool feature of the game is the ability to visit the theater and replay any cutscenes/animations you have unlocked in the game.
Another cool feature is PET HOMER which is moderately funny. (it's not a complete mini game, its more for a quick laugh.)
I'd recommend this for fans of the simpsons, as most of the things that make this game great are things that not the average person would appreciate this game for.

This is a very good game. It's lots of fun to play as all the different Simpsons characters. Lots of fun to play, a very good platformer. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes to play the Super Mario-type games and I would highly recommend to Simpsons fans.

The... Simpsons...Game!

The simpsons is something that we all know and love. They have been in and around our lives for about 20 years now, and I beleive that no other animated series will ever come to portray the greatness that the simpsons has. With that being said, the simpsons game is just simply a great game! The simpsons has had many games in the past, to entertain it's fanbase. Only one game has been worthy to hold the titile of the simpsons game, and that is this one! The DS version of this game portrays not only the TV show itself, but the abilities of the characters as well. When you have Homer turning into a big blob, Bart turning into Bartman, Lisa using her mind powers, Marge using her persuasive tone and her Megaphone, and Maggie using her tinyness to crawl through small space, how could you go wrong?

The gameplay of the game is pretty fun to start out, but then it gets a bit repetitive. The gameplay is basically the same on each level. You use the special abilities of that character to get through a level filled with traps and bad guys. Sounds pretty vague huh? Well it is, to a certain extent. But what the developers did is made every level unique in its own way, to keep the play interested.

Overall the Simpsons game on DS is the best out of all of them. I have played the PS3, 360 AND Wii Versions, and I really think they do not compare to the DS version. The DS version just combines beutiful 2D graphics with a 3D engine, to make for a smooth looking game.

I am an adult gamer and decided to get this game based on the reviews here.

Sure enough, it is fun and challenging. You never lose lives. I had alot of fun playing it. Some parts were hard but I got over it after some practicing. You have to collect all the coins, papers and cliches. I completed the game but got only 97% because I wasn't able to get all the items I needed. There were times I wanted to go back after seeing that I missed a coin over there, but once you across a certain point, you cannot go back. Unless you want to start over again on that certain level.

It is rated T due to mild language. It is almost easy enough for kids but due to the language they had to rate it a 'T'.

The game does save where you left off. Graphics are great & colorful, just like the TV cartoon.

Recommended for those who want a silly, fun and kind of short game.

Pretty, funny, but boring.

There's a lot to like about this game, mainly the great cel-shaded 3D that looks very much like an actual episode of the Simpsons. The cut-scenes look almost exactly like a Simpsons episode, and the voice acting is superb (obviously, since all the original voices are used). The game has a good amount of humor as well, considering it's a Simpsons game. There are even some very obscure jokes for superfans (in one level there are some solid gold "dogs with bees in their mouths, so when they bark they shoot bees at you").

Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily make up for the gameplay, which cannot fairly be called anything but boring. Even the traditional side-scrolling platformer format can be fun (see The New Super Mario Bros), but in the Simpsons game it seems they just copied and pasted a bunch of terrain and bad guys and left it at that. The most exciting moments are where the cooperative play (you switch off between Simpsons family members, each with different abilities) is used to its fullest potential. Of course, even that is overused and becomes tedious.

Overall, actually playing the game will make you angry and sleepy, but you'll probably enjoy the cutscenes, jokes and voice acting. Keep an eye out for Futurama cameos. Pet homer is kind of fun for about 2 minutes, as well.

I can only recommend this game to curious Simpsons fans.

"Simpsons Game" a mix of great writing, average platformer action

For Matt Groening to brand this with the all-encompassing title "The Simpsons Game" is to take a huge risk. After more than a decade of subpar spinoff-themed games like skateboarding, taxi driving and a "Grand Theft Auto" ripoff (and remember Itchy and Scratchy mini golf for the Game Boy?), there is finally The. Simpsons. Game.

A game like this should summarize the entirety of the hit show's 19-years-and-still-going history, right? It should be the perfect blend of immersive game play, a bevy of payoff moments for the "Simpsons" superfans, and top-notch writing, yes? Well, two out of three isn't bad.

What "The Simpsons Game" turned out to be was a bland, repetitive, sometimes irritatingly difficult platformer. In an age of motion-sensor controls and lifelike 3-D renderings, the simplistic platformer genre can still play host to some great games (see: "New Super Mario Bros.") But there's not a lot about "The Simpsons Game" that sets it apart from the rest of the pack.

For one thing, the characters have infinite lives. If you "die," your character simply zips back to the nearest checkpoint he or she reached. This takes the best part of what a "challenge" should be in a great game and relocates it to several do-this-part-100-times-until-you-get-it-exactly-right moments.

Each member of the Simpson family has a special ability -- Homer bloats up into a ball, Marge can corral characters to do her bidding, Bart becomes El Barto and Lisa can use the "Hand of Buddha" to move objects around -- but the novelty wears off quickly once the game starts to practically tell you outright how to use those powers.

The platforming aspect, like I said, is very repetitive and average. It succeeds the most on levels where two family members must work co-op in order to reach the end. The boss levels (if they can be called that) are somewhat satisfying once you defeat them, which is a plus.

Now on to the game's strongest point: the writing. The cutscenes in "The Simpsons Game" are superbly animated and are much, much funnier than they have any right to be. All the show's original voice talent is here, and the game's multi-layered meta-plot allows for a ton of jabs and in-jokes toward the gaming industry, the 8-bit age, nerds and even Groening himself.

The extras are so-so. Pet Homer is exactly what it sounds like and gets old after about two minutes. You can watch all the cutscenes after beating the game, which is nice.

All in all, I don't regret buying the game. It's got enough going for it to justify purchase by the average "Simpsons" nut. Not a world-changing title, but worth a try all the same.

Decent game....

I thought that this was a pretty decent game. Not what I expected, but it will do. It was not on the "adventure" gaming level that I expected. If you are a serious adventure gamer, this is not for you. However, if you just want something a little different, get bored one day, than, ok. This game is quite fun, and cute.
