This System is GENIUS!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 4

This system is a great tool to squeeze in some exercise in an effective, fun way. I run marathons and weight train regularly and I still work up a sweat with this system. It's easy, it's fun and it really works.

Another benefit is that it gets my kids up off the couch to play games. My son, who will have nothing to do with outside sports, works hard enough on these "games" to sweat.

I am delighted that Nintendo has come up with a system that gets families moving and creates games that we, as the older generation, can play with our kids.

You won't be disappointed with this system if you want an easy, fun way to work out and to track your weight and BMI. It's interactive, it's fun, and above all, it works!

LOVE the Wii Fit!!

I use an elliptical rider at the gym a couple times per week, and I was so SORE the first few times I used the wii fit that I could barely walk! It targets muscles that I don't usually use. I actually feel like I have better posture, and that my core is much stronger. All this after 3 weeks!

I read through some of these reviews prior to purchasing the wii fit, and I have to say that I am amazed at how sensitive some adults are. If it says you are overweight, and you are, well then do something about it! My husband is in the overweight category. (btw, his mii looks like it has a big belly, which is pretty hilarious!) He doesn't whine and cry and want to throw the balance board out the window, instead he thought it was an eye-opener and he decided to challenge himself to lose some weight. I am in the normal range, but it still says "OH!" when I step on it. Since the balance board talks to you like it is a person, I consider it to be like me stepping on someone! I just laughed at it. I don't mean to sound callous, I just think that people who don't use it because they don't like how it talks to you are just finding an excuse not to exercise.

The only age group that I think should be sheltered a bit are children. The first time my 7-year-old played with it, it said that he was in the overweight category. I honestly don't believe he is overweight, but I used that as a intro to a conversation about how important it is for everyone to exercise and eat healthy foods. Then after he had left the room, I actually adjusted his height up by two inches and now he hears that he is in the normal range. I agree that he doesn't need to hear everyday that he is overweight...that is for us as his parents to monitor.

As a family, we have loads of fun racing against each other in the running game, and competing in some of the other events to try to get the highest score. It's friendly competition and it motivates us to go just a bit further, to practice, and to perfect our moves...what's not to love about that?!

I hope Nintendo comes out with some other games for the balance board soon- how cool that we can be playing a video game and getting great exercise at the same time!

Another peripheral?!!?

It's a fun gimmick for about 10 minutes but then wears thin. One of the Wii fit activities was jogging in place with the controller in your pocket, not even using the balance board, as you watch the bland scenery, ugly graphics, and annoying Mii's run with you. Another was step aerobics. An actual step DVD program would be more fun then this robotic and slow-paced step on, step off, step on, step right crap. Graphics were bland and games weren't really that innovative in my opinion.

I feel this is a fun little toy, (more or less an expensive scale) but overall, just another short-lived peripheral for the Wii, unless they can find some actual fun and innovative uses for it. How many peripherals until we've had enough. Anyone else tired of those Mii's yet, I know I am.

Must get!!! ~

Picked this up at the Nintendo World Store lastnight (early launch -- was already sold out, only available cause I pre-ordered a month ago). OMG it was so much fun!! Only had time to play with it for about 1/2 an hour but I did feel like it gave me some sort of work out during the short period. Great for days when I don't have time or feel up for the gym. Not as easy as it looks to get a good score haha. LOVE IT! :)

Love it

If you own a Wii, you should buy this. But check at local big-name stores if the local game shops don't have it; don't pay these inflated prices the gougers on here are charging. I picked mine up last night at a store with a big W in the name, and when I talked to my friend at the local game shop, he told me they'd be getting more in within 2 weeks, so again, it's great and i love it, but unless you are rolling in dough, don't support the gougers. They'll be available soon.

Wii Fit Shines...but version 2.0 will be even better

I admit, I wasn't too excited about Wii Fit when it was announced a year ago. I didn't even pre-order it! To me, the whole Wii Fit and Balance Board idea seemed gimmicky and opportunistic - another thing to cash in on the get off the couch and do something active movement in America - and honestly not that interesting. I'm pretty active so I don't need a game to get me to exercise. Nonetheless, since I am a fan of gaming and innovation, I decided to set aside my prejudices and give it a try.

Here's a breakdown of the training modes:

Yoga
You can pick from a variety of poses to improve posture, Wii Fit starts off simple with basic poses (Warrior and Half-Moon) and deep breathing.

Strength Training
You start with five different activities that work to strengthen and tone muscles. Those include torso twists, push-ups, leg extensions and lunges. Before doing any exercise you can choose demo and watch the trainer explain and demonstrate the activity.

Aerobics
This section includes running, step exercises and Hula Hoop. My favorite is the running. You put the Wii remote in your pocket and run in place around Wii Fit Island.

Balance Games
These games are designed to help you improve your balance. I don't know how but they are a lot of fun. You can hit soccer balls with your head and dodge cleats, participate in a ski slalom or jump, or play a human version of the Tilt Game (my personal favorite). These are also great games to watch your friends and/or family complete.

Like any game, Wii Fit has some great areas but could also improve on some things for version 2.0. Here's where I think Wii Fit shines and falls short:

Pros:

* You can set a fitness goal and track your progress while trying to reach your specified goal.
* Balance games are physically and mentally challenging.
* You can install the Wii Fit channel on your Wii menu so you don't need to have your disc in your Wii Console to play.
* During the strength and yoga exercises the trainer and Wii Fit lets you know if you are doing the exercise correctly
* If you play for an extended time, Wii Fit tells you to take a break.

Cons:

* Wii Fit age is probably not accurate since it takes a while to get adjusted to the using the very sensitive balance board.
* You can't combine multiple activities together to create your own routine. After each exercise or activity, you have to stop and pick another. Definitely a momentum killer.
* No suggested training activities for your personal fitness goals.
* All the training exercises start off as beginner which is fine for some but there are a lot of activities that seem too easy at that level.

Do I think I'm going to lose weight doing this? Probably not and honestly I'm not playing it with that in mind. I don't plan on doing it everyday because I would rather go outside and play a sport or ride a bike. But it is a simple way to get your heart rate up and maybe even sweat a little.

I'm officially unbalanced!

I pre-ordered my Wii-fit from Amazon and received it today. It came complete with batteries, so all you have to do is put in the batteries, pop in the disc and sync everything.

I tested my age first. It took two tries to get it 3 years younger than my true age (as opposed to 12 years older). It asked me if I trip a lot after it tested my balance. Don't know if it has a sense of humor or was being sympathetic.

The tragic part was when I decided to play volleyball during the balance training. I scored "1" star and my little Wii-git was prostrate with grief and beating her head and fists on the ground. Sad music was playing, so I decided to take time out to write this.

Overall, I can tell this is going to be a lot of fun for me because it will obviously be somewhat challenging. I already walk almost every day and my weight is right where I want it to be, but I need to really work on balance, abs and overall strength. I'm in my late 40's and I'm delighted that I've found a fun way to do this at home. I'll be able to log in my other exercises as well as the ones I do on the Wii, so I'll know if start slipping.

I'm especially looking forward to the yoga, because that's something I've been wanting to try. It also incorporates strength, balance (ha!) and aerobic training. I'll update my review once I've had a little more time with this. I can already tell it's going to keep me interested and motivated. This was money well spent. Have fun with it!

Love it!!!!!!

I decided to get the Wii Fit because at 37, with 2 busy kids, husband and my own business, I don't really get much time to myself to workout. I preordered it and received it yesterday. It was so simple to set up, I didn't even need my 9 year old to help me :). I am by no means overweight, but need to get in shape. After doing the body test, center of balance, BMI and setting up my profile, I tried the yoga, which I had always thought I was doing correctly. My balance was off according to the Wii, so I was not getting the benefits from traditional yoga that I always thought I was. The yoga was really all I had time to try last night, because after my kids came home, they took over (which I had no problem with because they were getting excercise and were excited about it!) I hope that the novelty of it does not wear of with them (I know it won't with me) because although they are very active, the Wii Fit is great for them on a rainy day when they are lying on the couch complaining about being bored. I think this is a great product and would recommend to anyone, especially those who don't have time to go to the gym.

Great tool

I bought the Wii Fit as an addition to my normal workout plan. I am not your typical video game playing couch potato. Before the Wii Fit I ran/went to the gym/strength trained on average 5 times a week. While I'm not in great shape, I'm certainly not in bad shape. After my first day with the Wii Fit, I played the balance games and did the Yoga (skipping strength training and aerobic since I already do those on my own). In spite of my regular work out routine, my muscles still hurt the next day. While the Wii Fit is not a substitute for getting up and going for a run, it certainly is a fantastic side kick to your work out routine! I would recommend it to anyone: workout newbies and fitness gurus alike!

Good Product with a Few Key Oversights

My positive feelings towards Wii Fit are pretty much in line with many other reviewers. The balance board is a great peripheral, surely to be used in a variety of ways in the future. The "game" itself offers a nice variety of activities and is presented in an appealing way.

However, I can't give 5 stars to Wii Fit, mainly due to the lack of a routine feature. If I'm trying to squeeze a workout into a busy schedule, then I don't want to spend half my time clicking through menus. Further, while I don't mind Wii Fit's "harsh" language, I do expect such critical comments to be offset by constructive, corrective advice on how to plan out a solution.

Essentially, the Wii Fit should have come with a way to plan out and save exercise routines, while offering advice on how to construct these routines. So, if I have 35 minutes to work out, and I want to focus mainly on aerobic activities, the Fit program should give me a way to set that up efficiently, save it, and be able to play my entire routine from start to finish without menu disruption. Even a bare-bones routine feature seems like a simple, common sense addition to what's already available.

Like I said, Wii Fit is a good product, but such oversights make it come off as a gimmicky mini-game showcase for the balance board, rather than a serious effort to extend the lives of fat gamers. But maybe I just need to be patient. I'm sure Nintendo has a more thorough workout game in development, to be released at a financially opportune juncture.
