I think if you're look ing for a cool game to keep you busy for a while, and you like skateboarding it's for you. All though, it's pretty easy it's one of the best games of the year.

THUG: The Best Yet

By now such a long series like that of Tony Hawk which (obviously) revolves around skateboarding should have either stopped selling or have ran out of fresh ideas to still be entertaining. But neither has happen, and it's fifth entry is the best yet.

On Tony Hawk 1, we were introduced to a brand new world. While skateboarding games before had either been ridicously over the top or bland, Tony Hawk offered the perfect balance of fun, imagination and reality into one game. Tony Hawk 2 didn't offer much more except for new level and the ability to manual. However, Tony Hawk 3, the first for the next generation consoles, greatly increased the fun factor with the ability to revert, improved graphics, super fun levels and the best music as of that time. Tony Hawk 4 came out not too long afterwards and gave us the ability to stich onto cars, but the biggest change was the whole new way to play story. Instead of having 3 minutes or whatever to get 9 goals done, you have unlimited time to skate around and talk to people and get goals to do. Now, in THUG, you still have that ability, and everything you had in every other THPS game before this. You can revert, manual, stich, etc. And now you can get off your board. When you first start playing the game and get off the board, you'll probably think what I did: "big deal". But after a while, it becomes great fun to roll up a vert, go into the air and jump off you board, catching onto a ledge on the way down. You also find it is tons of fun to climb up buildings without the board.

Also, as a new addition, you have to play as yourself, not as your favorite skater. I know, you might be thinking "bummer", but this offers great opprutunities for you, like the chance to join whatever team you want and eventually get to create your own team with whatever pros you want.

The levels are the only downfall to this game. Not all of them, just some. Vancouver, for example, has absolutely nothing special to it. Just a place to skate. Very bland and boring. However, this also features awesome levels like Hawaii (that building is so fun to jump off of, especially into the pool...at least until you have to drain it) and Hotter Than Hell...which is a Kiss concert. At first, I was highly disappointed to find that at the Kiss concert location, the only thing on the stage was their drummer's kit, but after you collect K-I-S-S (each letter is very closely located), the whole band comes out and puts on a little show for you. When they're done, just collect it again, and they come on back out. Great fun.

This is the best THPS game yet, as I have already said. Great multiplayer, as always. If you didn't get this for Christmas, get the money you got from your relatives, AND GET IT!

P.S.:
I'm always interested to see who's on the soundtrack, so here's an extremely tiny list of who's on it, as about 50 bands are, and what track they perform:
*In Flames-Embody the Invisible
*Mammoth-Crusher Destroyer

*KISS-Rock N Roll All Night (Live)
*Alkaline Trio-Armageddon
*Rise Aganist-Like the Angels
*Transplants-Hollywood Babylon
*Assorted Jellybeans-Rebel Yell
*The Clash-White Riot
...and there's a s*it load more...

Excellent!

This is by far the best Tony Hawk game in the series. There are many new features that make it more exciting then any other of the games. Skating is very realistic and it is easier to control your board. You can choose different pro skaters to play with or use Create-a-skater. Create-a-Skater allows you to customize your character from head to toe. There are many options and you can even download your own face onto a skater. Create-a-trick is also fun to experiment with. Story mode is great, I enjoyed doing the challenges. Now you are able to get off your board and drive. The only problem is it is very short, I was able to finish it in about two days.

Actually, I give this game 3 1/4 stars, meaning it's slightly better than good, but not great. Don't get me wrong, THUG is a cool game that provides plenty of fun gameplay. However, it does have its flaws. The storylines get old after a while and you'll find yourself skipping through most of them. A lot of the goals have nothing to do with skate boarding, like the ones where you drive a car, a blimp, and even a freakin' lawn mower! What in the heck does that have to do with skating? This is a skate boarding game, not a driving game! Many of the goals are just plain boring and shouldn't even be in a skating game. This game is similar to the WWE in the fact that it revolves way too much around storylines than the actual sport. The graphics, sounds, and music are pretty good. The animation is also very good. On this game, a new difficulty setting has been added. You can choose to play the game on easy, beginner, normal, or sick, which is the hardest. It doesn't take long to play through the entire game on any of the first 3 settings. However, get ready for a stressing headache if you play the game on sick, because almost all the missions are extremely hard to beat. I sat there for hours just trying to beat one freakin' goal! It made me mad. I understand that this game, especially while playing on the hardest difficulty, needs to be challenging. But there's a difference between being challenging, and taking 'challenge' to the point of absurdity. There are several codes that you can activate by entering passwords at the 'Enter Cheat' option; moon gravity, perfect rail grinding, and perfect manualing. What s*cks is that you have to play through the entire game on every difficulty setting to get the really good cheats, like perfect skitching, roller skates, perfect special, and all the secret skaters. Maybe there's another cheat that can unlock everything so you won't have to go through the trouble. Oh well, this is still a good game. The levels are fun to skate around, and my favorite on is Hawai. All of the cool skating moves are here, including some new ones. Personally, I liked THPS 4 much better. But this is still a good effort.

i give THUG 5 stars because of online play!!! the online mode is very fun because you get to skate AND talk at the same time, you can be the host or just go to someone's room!

but let's talk about the game itself, it gets 3 stars. not too bad, ok game. i HATE the gay leaf-blower thing, it IS SO GAY! the physics are horrible! but the rest of the game seems to be ok. remember: 5 stars=online, 3 stars=game itself

ok, i take that back, this game gets 4 stars without online

Tony Hawk ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love this game. THe goals are very cool. THe only bad thing is Story Mode is very short. But it has a lot of replay value because when you beat the game you can go back to like Manhatten and climb on top of buildings. This is the first TOny Hawk when you can do 2-player FIreFight mode. I love Firefight.Overall this game is one of the favorite games I own.{I own a lot of games by the way}.

4.5 stars if I could

I love this game it has some tight elements to it yknow, it is different to the others in the series well cause there is some new things; like being able to get off your board, run, climb and walk around the levels.

There is the usual characters with the exception of Caballero and Steamer and the addition of Arto saari and Paul Rodriguez who are new. I'll just tell you who there is:Hawk, Burnquist, campbell, mullen, rowley, rodrigiuez, saari, thomas, reynolds, muska, bam & Ironman and some other unlockables.

The story mode is easy even on hard. It starts in NJ your Hometown where you learn basic stuff and get to create a skater for the mode. You have a friend called Eric who you become enemies with later. You run from the dealers who capture Eric and go to the next level Manhattan in NYC where you have to get sponsored then to Tampa where you do the Tampa AM if you and when you win you go to Diego to meet the team leader a fat guy called Todd, no matter what team you pick it don't make no difference after that you go to Hawaai where you do a crazy stunt off the hotle top. Then to Vancouver for Slam City jam when you win off to Moscow for some reason. Then after you go back to NJ where you face off with Eric (your rival now) and have to do his line which is mega hard, oh and before that you have to make a team of pros and make a video. You have finished.

The levels now

new Jersey:Not much to skate except the Train station and the pool 3/5
Manhattan: great level with many tight spots to skate 5/5
tampa: some good spots but not many 4/5
san diego; not much in this level 2/5
Hawaai: Good for jumping off the hotel and doing mad tricks
Vancouver: My Favorite level for some reason it really good 5/5
Slam City jam: A big skate park good 4/5
Moscow: soem good spots 3.5/5#
Bonus level: Hotter than hell: a kiss concert 1.5/5-it is a boring level

Thats the game- but check da tricks and movies. Buy if ya liek skate games

you MUST own tony hawk underground

THPS meets the underground!

Tony Hawk's Underground(THUG) is a brand new innovation in a series, that despite having 5 games in a sport that stays relatively similar from year to year, has innovated every time. THUG is no different. Although the same elements exist from THPS 4, there is a new twist(Before you read the rest of this review, know that I am not a gigantic violent video game freak, I am just talking about innovations to the THPS series, and read the entire review so you can understand my point). Without the names of several superstars burdening the main character, he or she can be seen breaking the law. Now believe me, this is in no way a GTA kind of crime spree, it is all in good taste in an attempt to do something that is meaningful to the story, unlike the gratuitus violence in several games today. With this freedom, the THPS crew has the ability to completely innovate the plot making it much deeper with a great story to boot. There are some minor polishing effects that THUG could use however. Once again the music selection is a little under par, but this is not a problem. The difficulty curve for some missions is also steep, but fortunately you can skip the majority of these missions if it is too hard for you and come back to it later when you feel you can tackle it. Finally, some goals can be a chore, but they are few and far between so you will not have to worry about it.
Pros:
Great Story(Especially for a sports game)
Innovative THPS game
Fluid movements, as usual

Most goals are fun and not too hard
Cons:
Some goals can be lame or difficult
Soundtrack could use some polishing

The verdict:
This is a great game that is worth a rental at least and for most people a purchase. The minor criminal activity is nothing like GTA or The Getaway and is all in good intent. Play this game at least once, you won't regret it.
