pretty good graphics, doesn't have all real club shirts, and and the annoncer gets VERY annoying. FIFA 06 is a way better buy.

Admittedly, I didn't get the 2005 edition of this series. I simply played 2003 and enjoyed it, even with the few bad quirks (absurd load times, horrendous goalkeeping & after some seasons in career mode, the stats would fail to accurately accumulate with players). My 2003 version was accidentally destroyed, so it was time to check out a 'new' one, so I checked out 2006.

It's not a horrible game. But it's not my 'ideal' football simulator either. What's great about this game is the career mode and having so many team's to choose from. You can put yourself into the game with the eye-toy camera even and conceivably field a team of you & your friends. Some things were improved over earlier editions too - like the goalkeeping is slightly better for starters. You also don't receive the obligatory yellow card after making one foul and then a straight red for the slightest next foul - much better refereeing in that respect. And you have a few more on-the fly changes that you can make, (tactics, formations, etc.). Also, the transfer market and dealings are much more enhanced. I said enhanced, not necessarily better, but it's cool that you have to have a strategy and they have the option for getting players on waivers at bargain prices. The graphics are good too, yet not a whole lot better than some of the older versions.

And then there are a few things that aren't so great. On the lower levels of the game-play (easy-pro), you can almost stand wiht the ball at the players feet without being approached by the defenders. But... maybe it's just me because my career team wasn't loaded with the best players in the Championship, but playing in the Master Class levels (anything over pro) was near impossible. Tackling was already made too difficult (the players are very slow to tackle & even slower to recover from missing the tackle), let alone that on the higher levels, all of the players move way too fast. They never figured out a good medium to raise the levels. Also, they took a massive step-back with free-kicks and penalty kicks. They're virtually useless in this game, and what's worse, if it's supposed to be so elaborate then they should've put in a practice mode at the very least... like FIFA used to in their old versions. Another problem I had with this was that they got rid of the one stats thing they should've built up on - 'last match'. When you finish the game for the day, week, whatever - it was good to turn it on and look at which players had a good day (a brace, assist, etc.) or bad day (1-10 tackles, yellow card/red card, etc) when you last played so you could plan your future games accordingly. Oh... and that stats gaffe in the game isn't fixed either. A player I use, after playing virtually every game of the season, stlil reads that he's played 0 minutes and has 0 goals and 0 assists...

So here's my recommendation to Sony should they release these on the PS3. :) Enhance & fix the stats field. What would be the best stats feature would be to have box scores/keep a tally of your player stats through the season so you can plan future matches accordingly. Imagine... you have a club that's in Europe (Champions League, UEFA Cup), you've qualified for the next round but have a game to play. It'd be great to know if your star player is sitting on a yellow card (one more, and he misses the next match), so you can chose to sit him for the 'meaningless' match. Neat, huh? That might be tops, along with balancing the play levels. Make free-kicks & spot-kicks easier - heck, go back to 2003 for a better version if you have to, & keep working on the competent goalies. They shouldn't be flawless and 'virtual walls', but shouldn't routinely allow balls that move slower than your players run get past them from 40 yards out. I did enjoy the game, but it was a shame that the steps backwards were a bit more than the steps foreward. There are a lot of cool things they should be able to do with the PS3 (player signing cinemas, more interaction, better dialogue/announcer calling, including "Player of the year winner..." etc., recognizing your player's accomplishments, maybe even a map of the regions where you are.) I think the best idea (and I'm giving you this one for free... but contact me for others if you wish...) would be to incorporate the players in the domestic season with the national teams so that, say you have someone that put himself into the game from the USA, and happens to see his player starring for say, Arsenal. Have an option so that the player can choose to include domestic/international to overlap - it would be especially neat in a World Cup year, and it would be a good simulator + if the player doesn't want to do this, when they chose to mix the two, have the option to turn it off. I know these are loads of equations but as a fan, these are changes that would take this well beyond a 5 star game in my opinion. Remember... options, options, options. Give the option to change difficulty in the middle of a season so if you're running away with it, the team's are better or if you're afraid losing too much, it's too hard, you can get some results at a better level. Give the option to override transfers... make the game more customizeable to however a customer wants to play it.

Ah well... one man's dream. A very fun game, but one that could be made much better - especially if they utilize the power and memory in the PS3 system.

At last, fat lazy people can play soccer from the comfort of their armchair or sofa. About time too, they are largely left out of competitve sports due to their overall fatness and laziness and it's plain not fair. Verdict: jolly good.

Score hundreds of goals with this funny game

Ok this is not Winning Eleven but if you want real soccer go and play WE otherwise if you like to score many goals and just have fun attacking over and over again go for this game, or if you had play WE franchise too much , try this one, a fast and easy gameplay makes it very funny and also you have ALL the leagues available and classic teams with original games.

I am a big fan of Fifa games, but I decided I would give this game a try because I thought it was cool that they had the Euro cup and many other International Tournaments. This game has horrible graphics and also terrible game play. When you have the ball the defenders are sliding all over the place trying to get the ball from you and it is so easy to get around them. When the computer has the ball and they get inside the 20 yard area they shoot the ball almost every single time and most of the time miss by a mile. The controls are bad and take time to get used to. The annoucer is very annoying. This game doesnt come close to the real feel of football and the excitment of the one goal that could change the outcome of the match. I found a few things I liked about this game. They have a lot of International tournaments like the Euro and Asian Cups and have more international teams than Fifa has. They also have snowy weather which Fifa doesnt have either. Other than that there isn't much I like about this game. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I was very disapointed when I played it and I have only had this game for a day. This game makes me want to play Fifa and stick with Fifa. I also have heard some good stuff about Winning Eleven. I should have listened to all the reviews about this game I read on all the gaming sites.
