My kinda game! Unbelievable graphics.

I've been playing video type games since before PONG!! This has to be the best I have ever viewed. The graphics are smooth, streamlined and a joy to watch as my ride and the bad guys circle and jockey for position in the sky battles. Plenty of variations in the scenes so that not much seems to be repeated. Most games seem to repeat the same battles perhaps varying the results. This one varies the pictures a lot to keep you awake, I was afraid I would miss something. Story was better than most, and I liked the "battles" which were doable if you were beefed up enough to handle them. Unlike Final Fantasy's Emerald and Ruby which I had to turn over to my Grandson to whip for me, and hour and a half battle is not for us old folks, very boring. And my very favorite thing about this game??? No one forced me to buy a "Strategy Guide" to figure it all out, it is doable from what's on the screen, that's the way they all should be.

Best Dreamcast Game.

It's been a while since I finished this game, but I somehow feel compelled to write a hindsight review. SOA was quite simply, the best Dreamcast game to grace Sega's now defunct system. I spent damn near 100 hours playing this game and it never got old or boring. If that isn't a true testament of an RPG's greatness, I don't know what is. For anyone who has a Dreamcast and hasn't played Skies, please do so immediately - you definetely won't be disapointed.

The is by far the best RPG on the market for the dreamcast, and in my opinion it is the best RPG on the market period, save Final Fantasy 7 and 10.
First of the graphics are amazing, the ships look amazing, and wow, does the final battle take your breath away. The Gigas are detailed all the way down to the color of there pupils.
The Battle system is perfect, and the special techniques are dominating on a battle feild, weather Aika is scorching her enemys or Vyse is slicing them open with amazing speed, it is all visually stunning.
Many people say that there are to many random battles, and I say there are a perfect amount of random battles. In a lot of RPG's you have to go back and "level up" so that you can beat a boss or the game for that matter. In SOA you dont, you can go through the entire game and never have to level up, because of the frequency of random battles.
I beat the game in about 42 hours, the third most outa any game i have played (Final Fantasy 7 at 61 hours, and Final Fantasy 10 at 63).
I definantly recomend this game to anyone who owns a dreamcast, and with the prices dropping it mite be worth the 100 dollers to get the game, the console, and a VMU.

What RPGs were always meant to be!

Near perfection. It's actually hard to say how good Skies of Arcadia is, but here's my advice: if you like RPGs and have a Dreamcast, then you MUST buy this game!!! (and Shenmue too)

Excellent Game!!!

This is an AWESOME game!! This random battles are somewhat annoying, but you gain more experience, magic spells, etc. as you continue to fight. The graphics and colors are INCREDIBLE!! It's definitely an exciting game with lots to explore for hours upon hours of fun and challenge. Shenmue, Blue Stinger, and Skies or Arcadia are definitely 3 RPG games that you want for your Dreamcast.

One of my all-time favorites!

This is definitely one of the best games I have ever had the privilege of playing. You have the fun of regular battles (with 6 party members throughout the game), but the most fun is in the ship battles. You can customize your ship with up to 4 main cannons, armor and accessories (not to mention the fun of your S-cannon). Search through the world of arcadia for crew members to perform special tasks aboard your ship, or on your very own fully-functioning secret base. In additional to standard and ship battles, you have a great storyline, graphics, gameplay and sound. The only bad thing about this game is that you'll lose quite a few hours of sleep, as it can be extremely addictive. With all the new, overpriced systems out there, this game is a steal. I just wish this was a little better-known so more people can enjoy it, the way I did.

The best RPG to ever be produced

In the world of Arcadia nothing is boring. The skies give adventure and suspense as you fly through them. This game will intrance you until you finish it, and when you do complete the game, you'll play it again! The graphics are beautiful as well as the music along with it. The story-line is excelent and its sunny nature gives a nice break from all those "dramas" out there. It's definatly the best RPG ever!

Perfect RPG

Skies of Arcadia is a game that just flows perfectly. The game world is beautiful, detailed, and full of life, an example of what a RPG should be like. The official Amazon review revealed a tad too much of the plot, but despite its seemingly simple design, the overall game is done extremely well. The game world is made up of floating islands(and yes, you get an airship right at the beginning). It's all 3D, so you can fly above and below and around and anywhere you want. The world is divided by barriers of rock and wind that are too dangerous to fly through(though later you recieve ship upgrades that let you break through them). Halfway through the game, you get your own pirate base to work from, and you can recruit characters from around the world to work on your ship(and make it more powerful), or become shopkeepers in your town(think Suikoden 3).

To get the basics out of the way, both the graphics and soundtrack are incredible. Most of the music have synth violins and trumpets/brass as a primary theme, which, although being fairly unique for a RPG of its time period, is brilliantly composed and performed. Combat music is upbeat and fun, and during boss battles the music even changes depending on whether you are winning or losing.

Speaking of combat, this is the only thing that I think this game could have improved on. Combat is turn-based. You give each of your four characters an action, the turn commences, and each character/monster executes their move based on their relative speeds. It's a bit simplistic, and during boss battles you have four moves to play with as opposed to your opponent's one, so healing and stuff isnt really an issue.

There are 6 "colors" in combat(associated with the 6 moons, each of which hover over a different part of the world and gives it special attributes, like the land under the red moon is a desert area while the area under the green moon is a lush jungle). anyway, you can attatch a particular element to your weapon and switch between them any time in combat, and when you win, you gain experience in that color, which lets you learn spells of that color. Only 6 spells per color, though, so 36 spells total in the game. Each character also has his own special attacks, which can be learned by finding and feeding them items called moonberries. Each turn, "spirit points" are accumulated, and you use these to cast spells and use skills(you all draw from the same spirit pool, like mario rpg's flower points). your characters can use a command called "focus" instead of an attack, which gives you an additional boost to your spirit pool.

Skies of Arcadia also features ship-to-ship combat. Similar to normal combat, you get 4 turns to play with, but so does the enemy ship. You have warnings as to when the enemy will most likely use his most damaging attacks, so you can use evasive action to dodge them. Most ship battles are plot oriented, and require you to pay attention to what your party members are saying in order to know how to counter the enemy attacks. Pretty fun system.

Overall, Skies of Arcadia is a very well made game, highly reccomended

Finally a new idea for RPG

This game is incredible. I've played RPGs a long time, my favorites being on Genesis and SNES, but this is cool. The graphics and detail are beautiful, and Sega came through well and designed a new idea for a game to take place in the air. Unlike Square with Sony on the other hand, who completely ruined the Final Fantasy series (parts 2 and 3 were great and still are the only good ones so far) by making parts 7-9 futuristic, with horrible graphics, unoriginal and of course a complete remake of the game before, just a new name, Skies of Arcadia presented an awesome story line, cool characters, an unforgettable soundtrack, etc. I received this from my friend Jennifer for Christmas and I had it stolen shortly after I beat it, but I will say I will rebuy it for certain and replay it again. I recommend this to anyone who likes RPGs.
