Great Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 5
Date: December 07, 2007

My parents purchased this for my birthday. Aside from it not being the collector's edition, I love it. It's just like Diablo, the layout and the keys are all the same. It's just set more into the future. The blood and gore is awesome. It fits the M rating for sure. The one thing that the ESRB got right.

If you're hesitating, go ahead read more reviews. This game is just as awesome if not more awesome than Halo 2 Vista.

Great Game!

I played beta version last week.

I don't need many words, just Great Game! Must BUY!

Disappointed

Found the game to be very buggy with crashes and freezes at times, some kind of memory leak. The graphics are decent but not cutting edge by any means and other players are kinda blurry. The instances I found to be very repetitive with a small handful of textures, you see the same things many many times. Alot of NPC's that they simply just changed the color on and gave it a new name or changed the size of it and then changed name. The game can be fun but with them charging a subscription fee to get things like more textures for variety, etc... its just not worth it.

Just not that fun

The levels are boring.
The monsters are repetitive.
The boss battles are a joke and not hard or memorable. I couldn't even tell you what the names to the main bosses for each act were.

Play the demo first so you know how bad the game is!

Hellgate: London - Unfinished and Uninspired

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 6 / 17

I would STRONGLY recommend that anyone considering purchasing Hellgate first play the demo version. Unfortunately, I didn't and I was so incredibly disappointed by the actual game. Flagship Studios should be freaking embarrassed for trying to pass off this tripe as a complete game.

I don't even want to waste time going over all of its inadequacies (of which someone could probably write a book). But the whole game just feels so unfinished. The environments and characters all look flat and uninspired. The textures look like something out of Quake I. What an awesome game this COULD have been.

Try the Demo first

If you want a lot of headaches then buy this game outright. If you want to be smart about it download and try the demo first. Different people like different things, so you may love this game or hate it, gameplay-wise. What is not in dispute though is that the game is definitely buggy. That point has come through in review after review, so do you're self a favor and install and play the demo first. I expect we'll see a patch and a re-release of the demo in the near future, due to these issues. But testing your system out with the free demo will give you the "heads-up" as to whether or not the game will be stable enough with your drivers/system specifications.

Dont waste your money!! Play the demo first!

I was excited about this game until I played the demo. The graphics are good but overall game play is boring. Those of you that love Diablo 2 you will find this game lacking the intensity. Overall don't waste your money, or try looking at Call of Duty 4 demo or TimeShift Demo. Those games are better FPS.

Avoid! Read on...

It's really only a complete game if you pay for full content and online play. And that's the good news. The bad news is that Hellgate's online play is administered by the incompetent Ping-0, a division of Flagship Studios of San Francisco.

So, don't pay $40ish for the game, plus another $10/month *every* month (or, more likely, 52 bucks for each 6 month block) just to learn what I'm willing to tell you for free: No game is good enough to justify high fees paid for poor service and incompetence.

Whatever happened to the rest of the reviews?

They deleted so many reviews to give this sorry excuse of a game a fresh start? It was rank overall 2 stars out of 75 reviews? Sad...

A dulled down rpg

Where do I start?
For some reason, I got the impression this was a shooter.
NOPE
I'll do the GOOD/BAD review.
Installing:
Uuugh. If you have Vista, prepare for one blocked attempt after another. It took MANY tries to find the patch to download and finally restart my computer and finally play.
Opening:
Good: not much
Bad: The building of a character was very minimal. Not a whole lot of room for changing your character. I guess I got too used to Oblivion.
Tutorials:
Good: Not much
Bad: As you are dropped into your first screen, the tutorials last about 3 seconds and fade away before you can realize what you just read.
Game play:
Good: At first I thought, nice, one hit zombies that get harder to kill and enemies changed somewhat quickly with each task you are sent on.
Bad: The same monsters are all identical. One zombie looks exactly like another. YOUR character movements are very stiff. No, you can not free roam around. In order to go to a new zone, you have to accept a task to go there. Right and Left mouse click seemed to do almost the same attack. Nothing special there too.
Overall:
If you love games like Titan Quest and Dungeon Seige, have fun. It's like they tried to mix them with Oblivion.
It just looks like they upped the graphics from those games and dropped this on us. I saw nothing really NEW here. The graphics aren't bad. Just not all that impressive. Voice acting was nothing to frown on but not really "acting" either.
Multiplayer: I wasn't impressed enough with the single player to try it.
