I THINK I'M GONNA HURL......

This game rocks. It's simple and addictive. It's not like those other Final Fight clones, (a.k.a. Dynamite Cop, Zombie Revenge, Fighting Force, etc.)where you lose intrest fast. This game is longer then the others and is much deeper in play. The gameplay is purely hard-core... just perfectly addictive. It's the type of game where you forget about the story and just want to hack and slash your way through. On the other hand... The story is so beautiful. It makes me want to forget the gameplay. Not only are the gameplay and story good but the sound is too. It drives me nuts. The voice acting, swords swinging, and blood squirting makes it sound sweet. Now some of you might have douts about this game because of the recent Final Fight clones.... Well forget them... This game rocks this world! The only drawback is that about half of the gameplay makes me want to hurl. There is just toooooooooooooooooooooooooo much blood and gore. So if your a guy who likes a good story, great gameplay, excellent sound, and a whole ocean of blood.... THEN BUY THIS GAME NOW!

Bloody But Very Uniqe!

Sword of the Berserk is a gory game. It is filled with all kinds of violence and is recommended for more mature gamers. With all that aside, it is a really good game. The graphics are some of the best on the Dreamcast. The sound puts the gamer right in the middle of the action. The game is loaded with cinamatic movie sequences, that keep the gamer interested. There is a little too much of it at times. One of the major flaws of the game is the control. It is sometimes hard to judge where you are in relationship to the enemy. It can be very frustrating, because multiple enemies will surround you at a fast rate. Another problem is the huge sword that you carry around. The sword is bigger than the character itself. It is sometimes easier to hit the walls than the enemies standing in front of you. This will cause some cheap deaths because of the multiple enemies surrounding you and your unableness to hit anything but the wall. Other than these small problems, Berserk is definately a must have for all action fans. There is nothing like it out there on the gaming market. One thing is for sure, it is better than any other Dreamcaset game of the same genre, like Zombie Revenge!

I am a very picky gamer. By the cover art I was like okay this game looks a little ghetto..But I went with an impulse and bought it anyway. When I got home and started playing through the mix of animated story line and sword hacking through bodies I almost canceled everything for the day to play this game. It has an incredible story line that makes you go ahh and awesome fighting with blood squirting everywhere that makes you scream with blood thirsty joy. From the makers of Legacy of Kain, this game does not have all the insane puzzles that Kain did. This game makes up in bloody fighting that Kain lacked in. Overall this game is great. The only two bad things are that the replay value will probably be low and the controls at some points make you angry that you can't kill that stupid dog biting your leg. If you love blood then I highly reccomend this game.

the first GREAT action game for DREAMCAST

The best way to describe SOTB is to call it Golden axe meets nightmare creatures, with a dash of soul calibur in the mix. the gameplay may get repetitive at times, but while your'e hacking and slashing your way through hordes of enimes, you'll be impressed by the EXCELLENT hi res grahpics and kick @$$ music. the whole experience of playing this game is akin to a major motion picture production. with brilliant voice dubbing and cinematic cut scenes. PLAY THIS GAME ON SURROUND SOUND TO SINK IN THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE

A MUST HAVE FOR ALL ACTION GAMERS! SKIP SOUL FIGHTER AND GET SOTB!

I love this game, the graphics are so smooth and the sound is great. It is something like an evil zelda. One thing I really like is the fact that you can actually choose your path in the game. During one of the numerous movies the game will tell you to push a button, if you do it in time you will take the easy route, if you don't you have to kill more enimies. Simply put this game rocks and anyone who likes pure mindless violence will love the game.

An absolute must!

This game is outstanding in many ways... First of all it's got an incredibly enthralling storyline, which gets you really involved right from the start... In fact, Sword of The Berserk is more an animated movie than a video game. The parts were you have to play are outnumbered by those where you simply have to watch animated sequences (they all last for at least 5 min. each but most of them are ways longer...). If the plot wasn't great you' d be yawnig after a while or, worse, complaining about the game but as I was saying this isn't likely to happen. In fact you'll find yourself craving for more! Second, SOF has got an impressive (definitely inspiring) soundtrack. The graphics are also excellent (only slightly inferior to Code Veronica's which represent the state of the art!)! What about the gameplay? Well it's fun tough it's not the reason why you should buy this title. What I mean is that the game itself is quite short so if you fell the urge to fight all day look somewhere else! The game is based on a famous manga and is obviously inspired by many literary works. Wanna a few examples? The Mandragola was a theatrical pièce written by Machiavelli, best known for his political treatise "The Prince". Puck was a character from Shakespeare's Midsummer night's dream and so on...

Too little variation in gameplay.

I must say that when I first got this game, I was stunned. The graphics were amazing, interesting physics(your sword clangs against walls when in closed spaces), amazing sound, and simplistic gameplay. But when I progressed further into the game, I realized that this was just another "kill kill kill! " Bare-knuckle action game with WAYYYY too little variation to please a hardcore gamer such as myself. Though a good escape from some of the more puzzle-oriented games that have been hitting the PC and consoles, the action gets downright BORING. The story is very good, though. The sound has its highs and lows. Some characters have good voice acting(namingly Gatsu and Baron Balzac.), while others just plain sucked(virtually every other character in the game). The soundtrack is VERY good. Mainly consisting of symphonic tunes. This would normally be a game that would appear in the arcades, but unfortunately, most arcade-type games are too simplistic and too boring for comprehension. IF you want to vent your anger and are not looking for much of a challenge(I beat it in about 4 days), then give this game a try. In the meantime, get MDK2 or something else that requires more thought.

OH! and another complaint! Were the creators of this game actually aiming for a sexual innuendo when they came up with the name "Baron Balzac"? I remember ceaseless nights when my friends and I were laughing at lines like "She was captured by Balzac's underlings". As immature as it may sound, it gave me a good laugh.

Sword of the Berserk is a really sensless game. But that's not a bad thing. When I get home from a hard day at school I always play this game. All I did was smash a few buttons and watch the blood flow. It's really addictive and FUN to play. I mean for some reason it relieves stress. I'm not a psycologist or something but this game, with it's senseless fun, is addictive, FUN, and relieves stress. So for all of you out there, who is in constant stress, BUY THIS GAME. Yet if you aren't in constant stress, also buy this game. In most areas of the game there is the senseless killing theme, but in several areas of the game you need quick thinking, good strategy, and a good eye to survive. Plus with excellent sound and plot, this is a must own for all of you arcade maniacs, all of you who are in stress, any one who likes good stories, and gamers who like a LOT OF BLOOD.

Great Graphics, Good Story

This game has alot of gore and blood which is cool to see for a change. The gameplay can get a little repetitive and it's way to easy to win, but its fun to play. The sword is too big and gets caught on walls which is really annoying, especially when you are getting your fanny kicked. But overall, this is a fun game which I recommend if you like adventure games that don't pull any punches.
