Too little variation in gameplay.

I must say that when I first got this game, I was stunned. The graphics were amazing, interesting physics(your sword clangs against walls when in closed spaces), amazing sound, and simplistic gameplay. But when I progressed further into the game, I realized that this was just another "kill kill kill! " Bare-knuckle action game with WAYYYY too little variation to please a hardcore gamer such as myself. Though a good escape from some of the more puzzle-oriented games that have been hitting the PC and consoles, the action gets downright BORING. The story is very good, though. The sound has its highs and lows. Some characters have good voice acting(namingly Gatsu and Baron Balzac.), while others just plain sucked(virtually every other character in the game). The soundtrack is VERY good. Mainly consisting of symphonic tunes. This would normally be a game that would appear in the arcades, but unfortunately, most arcade-type games are too simplistic and too boring for comprehension. IF you want to vent your anger and are not looking for much of a challenge(I beat it in about 4 days), then give this game a try. In the meantime, get MDK2 or something else that requires more thought.

OH! and another complaint! Were the creators of this game actually aiming for a sexual innuendo when they came up with the name "Baron Balzac"? I remember ceaseless nights when my friends and I were laughing at lines like "She was captured by Balzac's underlings". As immature as it may sound, it gave me a good laugh.

Beautiful graphics, great story, but where's the game?

Booting this up the first thing that impressed me were the graphics. I was actually fooled into thinking the real-time into was a pre-rendered cut scene. The character design is really good, the story is interesting and has depth. The sound and effects are great. The only problem is that you spend 20% of the time playing the game and 80% watching the cut scenes, which you can skip but then have no idea what's going on in the story. The actual play scenes are fun, but do get a bit repetitive as they have the same 'hack everything to pieces' goal and your character doesn't seem to progress in any way (new weapons, skills, etc...) It's a lot more like a movie than a game, which is really unfortunate as it's obvious a lot of talented artists and programmers put a lot of hard work into it.

Cool, but way to quick!

I enjoyed this game, but I beat it in two days. And not much time was spent on either day. Maybe a couple of hours at most. The gore is pretty cool, but there just isn't a lot of depth to this game. And to be honest the story [stunk]. I think if the game was maybe two or three times longer it would be much cooler.

Boring

There is nothing to do in this game its very redundant. Its only fun for 30 or so minutes...It is way too short also...But it is very detailed, like when you swipe your sword on the wall the sword will bounce back and make a spark and most games just have the sword go through the wall...The graphics are very good. The gameplay is ok,the guy swipes the sword fast as hell, the bosses are easy,or most of them are.I reccomend buying this game if you wont get tired of stuff and like a lot of bloodlust.

ok, don't get me wrong, but i like this game. there is a slightly good replay value, the music is great, the cut-scenes really show off the games excellent grpahics. but there are too many cut scenes. you only spend a quarter of the time playing the game, and the other 75% watching the cutscenes. i have actually played the whole game through. so anyone who gives this 5 stars hasn't played it all the way, or enough to get tired of it anyway. you do the same thing on every part of the game, hack and slash hack and slash. there is no strategy to this game, and the limit amount of weapons besides the sword really bites. i did beat the game in 2 days, with about 4 hours play, including watching all the cutscenes, so really you spend about an hour and a half playing it! . the game is too short! if you are the kinda gamer who likes a good and long game, don't buy this one, but definetaly rent it.

BLOOD, BLOOD, AND MORE BLOOD

if there was one word to descrobe this game, it would be: BLOODY. Now, don't get me wrong, this is not necessarily a bad thing, and to me it isn't, but there are a lot of people out there that would not like this part of the game. Next, I would like to say that this game has excellant cinemas, but, come on, enough is enough! We don't need so much movie, we want to play the game. For every hour you play the game, only 5 minutes of it is actual playing time, the rest is you sitting there watching, some people may like this, I DON'T. On the bright side, Gutsu's 7-foot long sword is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen, but, it is almost impossible to weild in small hallways because of it's size. Plus, all your other weapons you need to save for bosses, OR, they are not at all effective. This is a very good game, but a word to the wise, rent it first, you may find out this game is not for you.

Not bad but DON'T run out and gett it

I really liked this game for the first month or so that I bought it. Nice graphics and easy controls, but I dont see too much replay value in this game. Yeah, there are different paths to take, but they just lead to the same thing, large amounts of death, but there's nothing wrong with that. If I had to recommend a game like Sword of the Berserk, I would probably have to say Draconus. It's a little more in depth, without losing the fun of slashing all kinds of enemies.

This game is cool to the max, scenery is outstanding, music is to die for and the characters are interesting. The only thing that brings the enjoyment of the game down are the controls and limited items and weaponry. Forget about using the old D- pad my friends, the analog stick is the only way to get the job done. The gore and fighting scenes are to the extreme, though this guy swings a 7foot sword, which makes fighting in tight places a pain. At times, you will get fed up with most of the gameplay, because your chracter only has so many moves(which are quite slow)If only the makers of this game would have paid the same attention to the bare essentials of the game,as they did with the graphics, this game would be top notch. If you are a serious gamer such as myself, then I reccomend sticking to Soul Calibur.

You'll spend more time watching CGI than playing

This game is fun, but let's make something clear: this game has a LOT of FMV cut scenes. You will spend half the time playing by watching the plot develop.

Don't get me wrong, the plot is well-conceived, but in my opinion, Eidos should have kept the flow of action higher. The actual gameplay is good, though it can get repetitive, but don't by this on hype alone. I would recommend it only for fans of the manga and diehard action-gore fans.
