liked the original better, but a great game

One thing I like about this game is that it's much easier than the other one. The dungeons are far more straightforward and at least the walls don't disappear. The storyline is also much tighter and it's pretty easy to figure out where to go next. Also, you can combine your characters with 6 different shamans (not with each other anymore) which allows for some pretty interesting possibilities. It has the same quick save feature as the other one, allowing you to stop at any time, but it's only temporary. You can only save permanently at shrines. However, the shrines are a lot more common than in the old game and are placed in some astoundingly useful places. It's also a lot harder to totally screw up in this game. On the other hand, it's much more melodramatic (pathos city), you can only have four friends with you at a time (you can switch at any shrine, but I missed being able to switch to a fresh group during a long fight and I really felt bad leaving the rest out of the final battle), the fishing and hunting are a total pain (I just ignored them), and significant leveling is required (when I finished, Ryu was LV 90 and it was still tough!). I didn't even have to level in the old game. You get to build your own town though, which is cool. If you do it right you can even cook up all the stat boosters you like (max out your warriors!). If you're interested, there's a great walkthrough at www.planetstorm.net/bof2walk.txt

The Best of the BOF series

This is truly one of the greatest RPGs of all time & has the best graphics of all the BOFs. My favorite character is Princess Nina, who is banished cause of a stupid superstition saying a person with black wings will destroy Wyndia. This game is VERY in depth, & even took me ahile to beat it! ^____^ You WON'T be dissapointed with this one!!!

A Great game with a even better storyline.

A battery sucking gem if ever i saw one and all kinds secrets to reveal doubling replay value. Great storyline keeping you wanting to see whats going to happen next. Also very cool as you control a Manga blue haired boy with secret Dragon powers and exceptional fighting skills. I loved this game no dought about it.

A Disappointing sequel

the sequel to one of the best rpg games with the best story line is a total and complete flop. breath of fire 2 does not follow anything even remotly like a story and is not in any way realated to the first game.the game should have had some thing to do with defeating Tyr after she comes back at the end of Breath of Fire 1. the fighting is different and when i tried to select a enemy to fight out of 3 enemies, i ended up shooting myself. what is probably the worst part about fighting is when you meet a new enemy. you can't see how much health they have so it is frustarating not knowing how long until you kill them. the graphics are horrible and are worse than any game i have ever played. the hunting in this game is extremly disipointing and you spend the time waiting for a deer or boar to come out of the grass. if you are looking for a good RPG, play Breath of Fire 1 or Golden Sun

I love this game!!...

Buy this game!!! It has great gameplay though make sure you have played rpg's before so you won't think that it is boring because there is not any gore or jumping around and stuff. In the beginning though don't get frustrated look for a mountain then it is smooth sailing from there!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the best GBA game I ever played! The Music can be annoying sometimes but that is what volume control is for. It also gets really hard later on and takes a couple of months to finish on the snes version. I really recomned this game! :)

It has no gameplay at all. The graphics are horrible. The music is abhorrent. Spend your money on something better than this.

I bought this game a few years ago for the SNES after playing BOF1. I was looking for more of that wonderful gameplay in the first classsic game. I was terribly disappointed and I endorse the comments of the other reviewer from Valencia, CA USA. I quote them immediately below.

Additionally, the storyline (what there is of it) is horrid. It is not even a true sequel, but seems to be an attempt by the company to simply capitalise on the success of the first without too much effort. In short people. Do NOT buy this game.
