Donkey Kong...to go?

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 6

OK, let me just start by saying that I have loved the Donkey Kong Country series and Donkey Kong 64 since they came out. Therefore, I was very disappointed when I began playing Donkey Kong Country for the GameBoy Advance! Why you might ask? Well, I'll tell you why.
1. You can't jump as far. In the SNES game, you could jump quite a ways, however, that has been reduced by a noticable amount.
2. In bonus levels, time goes faster. If you've played both, go to the same bonus level, and try to do the same thing that you did on the SNES on the GameBoy. You can't do it.
3. Life balloons rise faster. This combined with the jumping loss makes it much harder to get them.
4. Some of the world maps have changed their graphics! I know this is just being picky, but for a die-hard DKC fan, this makes a difference.
5. Some of the levels have moved up in the order that you play them in, and some have even been removed! The third area is the biggest example of this.

There are two main advantages, however, that do make this game different from the SNES game.
1. Once you complete the normal mode, there is a "Hero Mode" that becomes unlocked, in which you play Diddy only with no halfway barrels.
2. The ability to take one of the best SNES games along with you in the palm of your hand.

Overall, I give it a low three stars because it IS nice to take this game with me on trips, but with all the changes, it keeps nagging at me. If 2.5 stars were an option, it'd have that. But for now, I'll let it round up.

Manoman is this fun!!!!!

I thought this game will be a bestseller for nintendo. Even though I'm a beginner at this, I've got to say that this is one heck of a game. The graphics are superb, control is most excellent, and music is just radical! When I first got this game I was pretty doubtful about its content. So to all the kids looking for this game I'm gonna give ratings.

Control: 4/5
Gameplay: 5/5
Sound: 5/5
Overall: 10/5!!
So fellow game players, with this, I say to you: GOOD GAMEPLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

good remake

Basically it comes down to this. If you have this game for the super nintendo, you will like this, but get tired of it very very fast. Theres also hardly any motivation to find all the secrets. If you don't have this for super nintendo, you will enjoy it alot, but its alot better playing at home on the super nintendo. In the end it's still one of the greatist games ever made for super nintendo.

Donkey Kong is back.

This game was released in 1994 originally, and it was a groundbreaking game for it's time. It was the best selling 16 bit game in the history of video games. (That's no lie, it sold around 8 million copies or so worldwide.) The Game Boy Advanced version is just as good, if not better, than it's Super Nintendo counterpart. In most Game Boy Advance games, the sound is a bit off due to the fact that the Game Boy Advance has stereo sound that comes through a single speaker. In Donkey Kong Country, this is not the case, the sound is better in this version that the Super Nintendo copy. There are more mini-games in this version, such as a fishing game and a dancing game. There is now a "save-anywhere feature". This allows you to press start and save at any time when on the world map. This is a great improvement, because in the Super Nintendo version you had to beat 3 or more levels sometimes before you could save. If you gamed over before you got to the save point, you had to beat those levels over. Another improvement is, when you get to the half-way point barrel in a level, your games starts you there if you game over in that level, so you don't start all the way back at the beginning. In the Super Nintendo version, if you gamed over in a level you started back at the very beginning.
Now, some people have complained in their reviews that it is too hard to see what is going on on the screen. You can either buy an overhead light for your Game Boy Advance so you can see the screen better, or buy a Game Boy Advance SP, which has light built into the screen so you can see perfectly. Other people have complain about the resolution of the characters and scenery. This is because the game plays on a small screen, not because the graphics are bad. If you really want to improve the graphics, buy a Game Boy Player, stick the game inside of it, and hook the Game Boy Player to the bottom of your Gamecube. You can now play Donkey Kong Country on your television.
The overall gameplay is incredible. You can jump on enemies, ride in mine carts, find jungle animals to ride on and help you through levels, among other things. The music is as great as ever, as I stated above. The graphics are good, as I also stated. The levels are fun and sometimes challenging enough to make you want to scream, but this game is so addicting you'll want to keep trying on a hard level until you pass it. Bosses are well balanced and a couple of them are difficult, but not too bad. The controls are easy to learn and respond nicely. This game's replay value is incredible, and you'll enjoy yourself every time you play this game. This game is an excellent example of how good Super Nintendo games can be when ported to the Game Boy Advance. I strongly suggest this game for any Nintendo fan, or video game fans in general. You will not regret buying it.

When Donkey Kong Country came out nearly 10 years ago, it was unique with its new computer generated graphics and "collect everything" gameplay. Now, nearly ten years later DKC debuts on the GBA. It is basically the same game. But now, on the GBA, the graphics and crispness look faded and are not as impressive. The gameplay is reminiscent of Mario World but not nearly as good. Despite there being varied levels, the gameplay is more memorization and timing than anything else. One small mistake could end everything. Things like this make you want to chuck your game boy at the closest wall. The game is challenging, but not in a good way. The add-ons like Funky's Fishing are pretty yawn inducing but some are nice. And the cameras are rather tedious to collect. Nintendo could've done more to this game, like added new levels or something. The hardware on the GBA was not used to its fullest on this game. DKC could've been great, but as it is, it's just average.

best game ever!

When I was about 6 years old (I'm 14 now) I started playing Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. It took me a long time to get used to playing it but after awhile my brother and my parents were amazed at how easy I made it look.
So I thought I'd check this game out. I got it from my friend and played it JUST A LITTLE BIT. But what little I played, I saw a lot better improvements than on the SNES version (naturally) I ddin't get ot teh features, but I bet they're good. So I'd recommend this game, because even those who have played the SNES version would like this one.

WAY TOO HARD

If you are NOT an experienced gamer I would not recomend this game. In the beginning, it is very fun and exciting, but as the game goes along it gets to be imposible and because of this it is boring for unexperienced players who will be stuck. If you are a person who is good at video games, I would definatly recomend this game! You will enjoy the action and graphics, as well as the story line. If you break a barrel that can be found along the paths, you can also play as donkeykong jr., and if donkey kong dies this will be your only choice (for this level). I would say that the levels are the perfect size- not too long, and not to short. The sound is not too bad either. In this game you will need to swing from vines, jump, and defeat enemies, as well as find hidden golden animals (finding these is not esstensial to finishing the level, and is not required). If you are good at video games, go and buy it! If you are not, and usually get stuck, I would go and buy Sims Bustin' Out, and any of the Hamtaro games, as these are almost impossable to get stuck in!

A little challenging than the SNES

I loved donkey kong country when it came out on SNES and now it's on GBA which is a little more difficult with the bosses and some levels. Im glad they didn't change the music in the levels they were awesome when you play DKC. vulture culture/ice age/oil drum alley were the levels with the music I liked.

A classic

If you played Donkey Kong as a child like I did, this game will take you back. It's fun, just the way it was back then. There are better graphics now, since technology has advanced since it was originally made, so it's more pleasing to the eye as well.
