A good card game and a great DBZ game for the GBA

This game is worth getting if you like card games or DBZ, and especially if you like them both. As a CCG, the game has a lot of depth. There are many tactics you can go for and many custom decks for you to design. You win a booster pack after defeating each of your opponents, and it's just as fun to see what cards you've won as it is to rip open a booster pack in real life. The AI isn't stupid, and your first few losses to any opponent serve as a great learning experience both in terms of tactics for you to use yourself and in how to tailor your deck to minimize their strengths and take advantage of their weaknesses. This is not an -easy- game by any means, but I don't think anyone with any sort of attention span will chuck it in frustration.

As for the negatives, there are several. The manual is horribly unclear, use it only for a reference. Dive right in- the interface is complex, and you may get frustrated with it at first, but keep at it. The game moves slowly, I'm assuming because it takes time to access the card library and AI tactics, but that shouldn't damage your enjoyment at all. The graphics are very good, but the music is confined to one particular section of the cartoon's theme song that seems to be on endless loop. No matter, save your batteries and listen to something else while you play.

If you're looking for an action game based in the DBZ universe, this isn't it, the matches can be quite long, especially as you start dealing with advanced tactics. But if CCGs appeal to you, or you're just a Dragonball Z freak, this game is a keeper.

hopes were high, too high.

When I saw the price of this game tagged onto a DBZ case I was very excited. I quickly read reviews that other owners of the game had posted, and all-in-all this seemed to be a decent, if not GREAT buy.

I was wrong -- dead wrong.

This game is very, very bad.
The rules are written enigmatically, and it is very hard to figure out what exactly is going on just by reading the rules and watching the tutorial.
The gameplay is difficult, and annoying. Each time you want to see attributes of a card it takes a long time, and becomes tedious. There is also very little replay value, and if you want to earn one, if not all, of the secret characters you are in for a lot of really tedious playing.

Do not buy this game, even if you are a huge DBZ fan.

Goku gives you Nail
Nail gives you Guldo
Guldo gives you Krillin
Gohan gives you Trunks
Garlic Jr. gives you Piccolo(hero and villain cards)
Frieza gives you King Cold
King Cold gives you Vegeta(hero and villain cards)
You start out with Garlic Jr., Frieza, Goku, and Gohan. Hope these were helpful.

A complete Dragonball Z CCG card collection. A set of cards exclusive to the GBA. A myriad of ways to win. At a first glance, this new GBA game may seem fun and challenging. All of the characters, heros and villains, from the Dragonball Z sagas (up to Cell), are here. It is a Dragonball Z fan's dream: all of the cards in the collectible card game in a convenient little cart to play with at one's spare time. This realization of the dream, however, is undercut by the game's numerous weaknesses. The manual, for example, is poorly written. The descriptions are often short and enigmatic, and the authors seem to purposely want to annoy and confuse the gamer. The tutorial that is included in the game is short and lacks depth--it covers the simplest aspects and leaves the gamer in a frustrated state as to how the game fully works. It merely explains the basics. Although some people may say that the tutorial explains the basics in order to allow the gamer himself/herself to explore the game, many little children that love the Dragonball Z CCG and Dragonball Z itself will be left in a perplexed and dissapointed state. The opponents that you face off against also grow in difficulty at a staggering rate(exponentially, I may say...). The game itself is plagued by poor music and an even poorer interface. Gameplay is often slow, matches are *frequently* drawn out, and the repetitive music may become a nuisance. Although many people may believe that this game is a great game, I think otherwise. The cards may be accurate, the pictures may look great, and the addition of *new* and *exclusive* cards may be exciting, but this game clearly is not for children. Those who overcome its first 12 hours or so of complete and indescribable boredom, however, may be able to find some enjoyment in playing the game. If you are considering about whether or not this is a suitable birthday gift for a child (who presumably enjoys strategy/role-playing games), consider no more. You would be better off buying Golden Sun.

Step learning curve, a good game, but plays very slow

Never having played this game before, I was very dissappointed by the instruction manuel which helped not at all. Fortunately there is an on line rule book that helps alot...I kept at it and finally it all came together, and I started enjoying myself. This is a good game with a good strategic element. The major down side is the very slow game play. The machine takes forever to do anything and as a result, a typical game takes about 45min. Also, it would have been nice had the interface been designed to allow you to easily view the opponents cards that are being played, as it stands, you have to go though several screens to get to the information.

One Great Game

This is one of the best games, and dont stop reading just because other people say the same thing. This is a great, and strategiclly a big step for the GBA System. One great thing is that the things likes graphics are really good because they had the time to make them good because the game isnt like an rpg. Let me tell you about the actual game now. One major reason i got this game is because i thought it would be a mix between an rpg and a CCG, but i was deffinately wrong, which isnt exactly a bad thing. I have never played this game in real life making it a bit hard to pick up at first, but its like riding a bike you dont forget what to do, and its easy to learn WHAT to do. There is not walking around, but is rather like mortal combat in the way you progress, almost exactly. ou go from level to level up to five which is cell, and hes a wench, let me tell you. Great game card wise, you can choose out of four players in the beggining, goku, gohan, freiza, garlicJR. You get others by beating the game with one person, then you unlock another. You play exactly like the card game, but its better because it has infinate possibilities. The main reason i got this is because you can keep playing and playing and not get bored because there are many diff. card possibilities. Great game i highly recommend it, fact is im going to go play it.

I love this game and like the pokemon one its actually like the actual card game. but i have to agree with A GAMER that there needs to be a dbz game with a storyline something where you can start out with little power and work you way up to supersayagin levels with super attacks and feirce battles.

THE most horrible game I ever played.

This game is [horrible]. What else is there to say? I must admit, the graphics are beautiful, but that doesn't matter.I traded in 5 good GBC games to get this-that was the worst d%@n thing I did in my life. This game would be fun without a few things-first, the manual is too freakin confusing. And the loading times(yes, loading on GBA) are as bad as PS1. Even if you are such a DBZ fan that you would pay $999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 just to see an episode that you missed, dont get this game.I beg you, don't let me see you blow your Metroid Fusion money on this.

Good game for when u r bored

this game is easy to follow after youved played it all day.
sometimes it takes to long to finish a match. what u do is u play other people from dbz and every time u beat um u get a booster pack (10 cards). When you beat cell u get a new caracter. the caracter u get depends on who u were when u beat cell.
